This is a Pajama Party

“Ugh! We came all this way and it’s no fun with just five girls!”

Former top idol, Ria Meguro, throws herself onto the bed with a pout.

Inside the cottage built on a remote island, there are exactly five beds gathered in one room, matching our group size. Each of us bride candidates was casually engaged in conversation on our respective beds.

I had only ever seen this kind of pajama party scenario during drama shoots, so I thought it was some sort of ‘realistic fantasy’

You know, like a high school rooftop that you rarely find in real life but often see in fiction. That kind of thing.

“What are you talking about, Ria? It’s such a rare opportunity!”

Yu Shibuya, a YouTuber, licks her lips as she moves her smartphone mounted on a small tripod placed on the desk at the corner of the room.

She seems to be trying to find the right angle to capture everyone in the frame. She’s searching for a stationary shot that includes all of us.

I must admit it’s quite an unusual situation we’re in.

We can’t exactly call each other friends; rather rivals or even love rivals. Under normal circumstances without being forced into such situations like this one, we would never have simulated an ordinary high school girl’s trip where we giggle and laugh together like this.

“Rii…, I want to sleep next to Shinichi-kun,”

Meguro murmurs seductively while hugging herself tightly despite lying on her back and emphasizing her curves.

“It’s incomprehensible. Since when did you start liking Maon’s onii-chan so much?”

Maon, the younger sister of Hirakawa Shinichi, looks at him enviously and resentfully while pointing out in an exasperated voice. Maon’s onii-chan, huh? An unusual possessiveness.

“Oh, from the beginning! ♡ I love everything about Shinichi-kun, his loner side and even his virginity♡ I definitely want to marry him ♡”

“Once I get married, I won’t be alone or a virgin anymore, but what are you going to do then?”

“Well, even if he’s not a virgin anymore, Rii still loves Shinichi-kun.”

Suddenly, everyone’s ears twitched at Meguro’s slightly serious tone.

“Shinichi-kun seems like a cold person who says, ‘He’s just taking advantage of other people,’  but in reality he really looks at people and says kind things.”

“Yeah, that’s true. If he does that naturally, there might be a possibility that he has innate talent for acting… Yeah, I guess a wide angle would be fine if it’s this much.”

Finally finding its position on the smartphone screen, Shibuya responded in such a manner.

“…Hmm.”

“What is it Leona?”

Hearing the voice that came out of my mouth almost unconsciously, Shibuya made a disgusted face and turned towards me with the smartphone she had taken so much effort to set up. Ah, what a waste.

“No, I was just wondering when did Shibuya fall in love with Hirakawa too?”

“What? Leona, do you think you can keep acting so nonchalant forever? Outside, you may have attracted men easily under the name of actress Kanda Reona, but here, you’re just a beautiful girl.”

“It’s not about being nonchalant or anything like that. Oh, and thanks for calling me beautiful.”

“I wasn’t complimenting you. I’m telling you that won’t work with Shinichi. He sees through people’s true nature.”

“Well, there you have it. When did you start liking him so much?”

As we teased Shibuya, the bed next to me starts trembling uncontrollably.

“Hey, you know what? I’ve been silently listening all this time, and I can’t help but wonder why everyone is stating the obvious as if it were some revelation. The fact that Shinichi is kind and sees people for who they truly are, those are just basic common sense things that everyone should know, right? There are so many other wonderful qualities about him. For example, back in winter of our sixth-grade year, when we used to walk home together…”

Shinagawa starts passionately listing all of Hirakawa’s good points. As always, my childhood friend with stalker tendencies sure knows how to lay on the affection.

“But hey, Sakiho-chan?”

Meguro naturally interrupts Shinagawa’s monologue with a quacking sound.

“Why did you do that earlier?”

“W-Well…”

Seeing Shinagawa struggling to answer, I find myself torn on whether or not to come to their rescue.

If only Season 2’s rules weren’t like this, what I did would be the farthest thing from Shinagawa’s ideal choice.
