The Island, His Shirt, and Her 1
“Kyaaaaaa!!”
Awoken by a distant scream, I rubbed my bleary eyes and sat up.
…And then, beside me.
“Ah, are you awake? Good morning, Hirakawa.”
Kanda gazed at me with a gentle smile, reminiscent of a wife lovingly watching her husband’s sleeping face.
“No, why are you sleeping there!?”
“Why? Because I’m your wife, naturally.”
“No, you’re not my wife. And, that outfit…!”
“This? I borrowed Hirakawa’s Y-shirt. It seems a bit big for me since you’re a guy, after all.”
Bathed in the morning sunlight streaming through the window, she sniffed the sleeves of my Y-shirt, now in a boyfriend shirt style,
“Ahaha, it smells like Hirakawa.”
She said with a shy smile. A sight that was truly a feast for the eyes, but still!
“No, last night when you said ‘goodnight’, you were wearing your pajamas and went to that bed, right!?”
“Shouting like that first thing in the morning will raise your blood pressure, you know?”
“Whose fault is that!”
“Ahaha, what a classic retort. More importantly,”
Kanda pointed outside the room with her right hand, the sleeve hanging loosely.
“Did you hear a scream just now?”
“…That’s right!”
I jumped to my feet and dashed out of the room.
“Take care! I’ll make some coffee~”
Her clear voice followed me from behind. Seriously, what’s with that perfect wife act?
Stepping into the hallway, I found Jujoo-san in disheveled nightwear, standing there. This was also an unusual situation.
“What happened…?”
“…Ya, yaya, yamo…! Imo…!”
“Baked sweet potato…?”
Jujoo-san muttered about something out of season while pointing at her own room.
“Inside your room?”
“…!”
She nodded frantically. But her gestures were unusually childish; is she really Jujoo-san? Or could she be a twin sister, her spitting image?
“Excuse me…”
Entering Jujoo-san’s room timidly, I found nothing out of place.
Approaching the window, I shooed away a gecko or newt clinging to the glass with a light tap and opened the window to check outside. Yet, there was nothing, not a soul in sight.
…No?
“…Ya, yaya, yamo…! Imo…!”
“Could it be, Jujoo-san,”
As I said this and turned around,
“What seems to be the matter, Shinichi-sama?”
“Shukuchi…!?” (tln : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shukuchi )
There stood Jujoo-san, her composure restored as if the previous fluster was a lie.
“I mastered shukuchi as I became secretary to Kaede-sama.”
“Uh, that’s… No, wait, Jujoo-san, are you, perhaps, a reptile?”
With a touch, Jujoo-san’s index finger sealed my lips.
“Please, do not speak any further on that subject.”
Looking closely at Jujoo-san, her skin was as smooth as porcelain, her eyes as beautiful and serene as glass marbles, and without connection to my sealed lips, I found myself speechless.
“Hirakawa, your coffee is ready~ …Oh, are you busy?”
Startled back to my senses by Kanda’s voice,
“No, of course not,”
I backed away from Jujoo-san’s finger and offered a quick bow with an “Excuse me” before leaving the room.
“Having an affair right next to the room where your wife is waiting—that’s not something I can admire, Hirakawa.”
Despite her words, Kanda, in my shirt, gave a sly smile.
“You’re not my wife, you know.”
I had to voice it out loud to firmly deny it, lest I be swayed by her acting the part of the “ideal wife” to the tee.
After drinking the coffee Kanda had prepared, I went up on deck and saw land coming into view.
“That island is our destination this time.”
“Wow, that’s it…”
“More importantly, Jujoo-san. Have you always been this close to Hirakawa? Even though we worked hard and won at the casino, we can’t seem to get a moment alone.”
“I am not a bridal candidate, so it is of no concern to me.”
“Was there really something that happened earlier in your room? Maybe an unexpected rival appeared?”
Kanda maintained her usual composed smile, contrary to her words.
Nonetheless, I feel like I’ve spent a considerable amount of time with Kanda.
After 10 PM, it’s close to bedtime, and I can’t activate “Destiny’s Choice.” As a result, I’ve been alone with Kanda for nearly 10 hours.
“Well, since Jujoo-san is here, it’s not like we’re completely alone.”
“Don’t read my mind.”
And at that moment, my smartwatch went ‘Pirorin♪’, sounding an alert,
“Please make a ‘Destiny’s Choice’ as enough time has elapsed.”
It urged me as if it could read my mind, too.
“Speaking of which… is this even possible?”
Despite feeling a bit guilty towards Kanda, I went ahead and sent out “Destiny’s Choice.”
Kanda’s smartwatch rang with a ‘Pirorin♪’ notification.
The question displayed was…
===
【Destiny’s Choice】
What will you do now?
A: Revive the bride candidates
B: Continue spending time alone together
===
“Ah, so this is allowed?”
With a smile tinged with a drop of loneliness, Kanda murmured.
“If Hirakawa chooses A, then no matter what I choose, the bride candidates will be revived, right? I see, if you use this, you can reset. It really is a thoroughly unfair game.”
Kanda chose A, and with that, the revival of the bride candidates was decided.
“You’re choosing A?”
“You really don’t understand a woman’s heart, Hirakawa.”
Surprisingly, she poked my cheek twice in a jesting manner,
“If we’re going to be reset anyway, at least I wanted to have the same opinion as you.”
