A Flat-Chest Believer Reincarnated in a World Where Women with Small Breasts Aren't Treated as Women ~ I Ended Up with a Flat-Chested Harem. - Chapter 28
When dealing with an outbreak of an infectious disease, time is of the essence. I hurriedly left the dining room with Risty, heading toward our room at a brisk pace. Rita and Mariel followed closely behind. We quickly ran up the stairs and rushed into the room.
“Everyone! This is an emergency! Get Lord Folca and Lady Risty into clothes suitable for traveling on horseback! This is official business, so their outerwear should be surcoats! Prepare their belongings as well. Rita and I will get ready to accompany them, so leave the rest to us!”
Mariel barked orders to the servants who had been cleaning the room. They froze for a split second but quickly sprang into action. One rushed to call for extra help, while another dashed toward the wardrobe.
The clothes were pulled out, and more servants soon arrived to assist. They quickly helped Risty and me change into appropriate attire. I checked the items the servants had selected for us to take, and once everything was ready, the four of us left the room.
I was dressed in navy trousers and a dark blue coat, embroidered on the back with the Gustique family crest—a design of “young grass and a rock lark.” Risty wore brown trousers and a white coat similarly adorned with the Gustique family crest. It was brand new, tailored just a few days ago.
Although the colors were different, we looked almost like we were wearing matching outfits. Despite the urgency of the situation, it felt nice to look like a couple.
Rita and Mariel were also dressed in brown trousers and navy coats.
When we stepped outside, the horses were already lined up, and the retainers who would accompany us were gathering.
Among them was Kudell. She had a ‘Holy Magic Affinity of 5,’ meaning she could cast purification magic, so it made sense that she was part of the team. However, she was carrying a rather large bag on her back. Based on the look in her eyes, I had a feeling it contained a microscope. Her expression seemed to say, “I’m going to collect samples of the pathogen.”
“Are you coming along, Kuu?”
“Yes. This is a chance to observe the pathogen.”
Kudell responded to Risty’s question with a sharp, determined expression. As I thought—she’s eager for knowledge, which I appreciate.
“Kudell, that looks heavy. You should have someone carry it for you. Barrius, take care of this.”
I handed Kudell’s luggage to Barrius, a nearby retainer skilled in magic. He was better at handling horses than Kudell, so this would reduce the risk of damaging the microscope.
My mother and Lyla also arrived, signaling that the team was now fully assembled. Including the guards, there were about 20 of us—quite a large group.
My father appeared with a man I didn’t recognize. He was likely the messenger. The man bowed deeply.
“Thank you so much for responding to our request. The disease has been identified in the northern part of the territory. I will accompany you to the site.”
“Alright, everyone, I’m counting on you. Folca, you’ll take command. I leave the on-the-ground decisions to you.”
“I accept the responsibility. Messenger, let’s finalize the route quickly and depart. Since we’re heading to the northern part of Count Rendolf’s territory, we’ll take the eastern highway, correct?”
“Yes. I’d like to head toward the town of Kanshura first.”
I said, “Understood,” and visualized a map in my head. But then, Rita came over and spread out a map for me. Thoughtful, and much appreciated.
I reviewed the map and made the necessary plans for our journey.
“We’ll take the highway, switch horses at Koderua, and continue on to reach the border town of Balzarne by the end of the day.”
“Balzarne!? Isn’t that a bit too ambitious? The sun will set before we arrive.”
The messenger raised his voice in alarm. But I wasn’t expecting us to arrive while there was still daylight either.
“Yes, it will. But if it’s dark, we’ll light the way.”
In normal circumstances, riding horses at night was dangerous. But with me and Risty in the group, lighting the path wouldn’t be an issue.
“Are you planning to use Holy attribute light magic? But, um, won’t you exhaust your mana along the way?”
“It’ll be fine. By the time we reach the site, I’ll be fully recovered.”
I said this casually, though it was actually a bit of a lie.
Mana recovery rate is nearly proportional to total mana capacity, so my natural mana regeneration is quite high. Illuminating the surrounding area with light magic consumes about as much mana per hour as I naturally recover in the same time.
“I see… As expected of a ‘Thousand Mana Saunthanta.’ Understood.”
With the initial discussion settled, I mounted my horse. Since we were in a hurry, we wouldn’t be using carriages this time. Each of us would ride our own horse.
“Let’s go!”
I gave the command and gripped the reins.
We descended the hill toward the city. The citizens of Remilba looked on in surprise, wondering what was going on, as we passed through the gates.
Once we reached the open road, we picked up speed.
As long as the horse can last until the town where we can switch them, it’ll be fine. If it gets injured, we have healing magic. We can’t push them into a full gallop, but we can still push them harder than usual. So, I gave my horse a firm kick to its flank.
