- Chapter 25 - The Girl Named Akari Sakurazaka
The Girl Named Akari Sakurazaka â‘¡
The ninth Saturday.
In our living room were me, Sakurazaka-san, and Yuuki-san.
She used to have a calm and collected demeanor, almost AI-like in nature, but now she seemed entirely different.
Her molars chattered, and her eyes darted around restlessly.
She hunched over, seemingly overwhelmed with fear.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry——”
Yuuki-san repeatedly apologized as if it was as natural as breathing.
Her eyes told the story of the terrifying experience she have gone through.
“Be quiet.”
“Ah.”
Yuuki-san let out a faint whimper and shrunk back even further.
“Um… what exactly happened to you?”
I asked out of sheer curiosity, and Yuuki-san’s face turned deathly pale.
That’s quite an intense reaction…
I quickly glanced over at Sakurazaka-san.
“I didn’t do much. Just tearing out nails, pulling out hair, extracting teeth, cutting off ears, severing fingers, gouging out eyes, breaking bones, and tearing out internal organs. At least, I intended to inflict as much pain as I could. I thought of torturing her slowly, but I didn’t have the luxury of time.”
How can she talk about it so casually…?
She certainly did some gruesome things.
No wonder her mental state is shattered.
“Uh, the reason I brought you here is that I have something to ask.”
Yuuki-san weakly met my gaze.
“I’ve been curious. How did you find out Sakurazaka-san was rewinding time?”
Unless one had direct contact with Sakurazaka-san, they shouldn’t know about it.
And I never saw any signs that Sakurazaka-san recognized Yuuki-san beforehand. It had been bugging me.
“I’ve been jumping from one place to another, searching for anyone exhibiting strange behaviors. That’s when I found…”
“Me?”
“Y-Yes, that’s right. The moment the date changed, I witnessed the power to rewind time and became certain of it.”
“I see. No wonder I felt like I was being watched.”
Sakurazaka-san placed a hand on her chin, showing a look of understanding.
I cleared my throat to shift the atmosphere before continuing.
“As far as you know, Yuuki-san, is there a way to escape from Sakurazaka-san’s power to rewind time?”
“What?! Yu-kun! Why would you ask that?!”
Sakurazaka-san interrupted, her eyes wide in shock.
However, this information is crucial to me.
I need to know.
“…I don’t know. That’s why… I recklessly tried to… kill her.”
“I see… Then, one last question. Can you provide your interpretation of why someone gets affected by Sakurazaka-san’s power?”
Yuuki-san’s shoulders jerked in fear.
She’s probably intimidated by Sakurazaka-san’s piercing gaze.
“Yu-kun wants to know, so tell him.”
With Sakurazaka-san’s prompt, Yuuki-san hesitated before speaking.
“I believe that those who possess some sort of power are more likely to be affected. In fact, two acquaintances of mine were also involved. However, if you don’t have any particular power, this hypothesis falls apart…”
I see. So, that’s how it is.
It makes sense to me now.
I think I’m alright now.
I gently placed my hand on Yuuki-san’s head.
“Hyah! Wh-what are you—”
Yuuki-san was taken aback.
Then, I used a power I had just remembered…
A faint light illuminated the surroundings, and Yuuki-san blinked rapidly.
“Huh? Why am I here…?”
“You must’ve taken a wrong turn. You should head back to your home.”
“…I see…then excuse me.”
Although Yuuki-san was still confused, she staggered out of the living room with unsteady steps.
A perplexed Sakurazaka-san, struggling to grasp the current situation, raised her voice.
“Um, Yu-kun? What did you do?”
“I remembered. It seems I too have a ridiculous power.”
In the now empty living room, I slowly confessed to her.
“What do you mean?”
“Maybe it’s because I once experienced death.”
Today, when I woke up, I realized this power I had.
Or more accurately, I remembered it.
I turned to face Sakurazaka-san once more.
“It seems I can manipulate memories. The fact that Sakurazaka-san had amnesia seemed too convenient. I wondered why you had completely forgotten about me and this ridiculous power. But if there’s a power to manipulate memories, it all makes sense.”
“Uh, wait, what?”
As Sakurazaka-san still seemed to be processing, I continued.
“You were right, Sakurazaka-san. We played together when we were children.”
“Oh, yes! I’ve been saying that all along, haven’t I?”
Sakurazaka-san beamed with a bright smile.
That was a story from when I was eight years old and Sakurazaka-san was seven.
