- V 2.1 Chapter 3.14 - Mother’s Name
I felt like my body was floating softly in the darkness.
So sleepy… What was I doing again?
“…Kuna.”
A familiar voice reached my ears.
“Wake up, Kuna.”
Guided by that voice, I opened my eyes and found myself once more inside a nostalgic dream — a childhood dream.
Apparently, I had dozed off on my mother’s lap.
The trees in the courtyard rustled gently. Today, it seemed like it was just my mother and me.
“Mother.”
Rubbing my eyes sleepily, I looked up at my mother’s blurry face.
A gentle smile tugged at her lips — kind mother’s face, so familiar. Her warm honey-colored eyes. Her big, fluffy ears.
Yet, I felt a strange sense of déjà vu. I had seen this face somewhere recently… but I was too sleepy to remember where.
“Hehe, Kuna, you sure do sleep a lot.”
“Mmm…”
Warmth spread through me as she stroked my head, ears and all. So very comforting.
“…Right now, no one else is listening. Not that person, nor the servants.”
“…”
Half-asleep, I heard mother whisper.
“Kuna, listen… I actually have one more name. I couldn’t say it before because I was being watched.”
One more name…?
“Maybe someday, far in the future… if someone hears this name, they might come to help. It doesn’t have to be right away. So please, remember this name when that distant future comes.”
“…”
Wasn’t mother’s name Elena?
Tell me, mother. What is your real name…?
“Mother’s true name is—”
Darkness.
“…?”
For some reason, I found myself underwater. I tried to scream, but only bubbles floated up.
Then I was swept away by a violent current, falling down into the deep depths.
This feeling was painfully familiar. Yes, it was the same sensation as when I first met Lulu, when my wish was granted. I wished to go somewhere else, somewhere not here.
And then somehow, I fell somewhere…
It was suffocating. My body felt heavy…
Just as I thought that, someone called out to me again.
“Are you okay!? Stay with me!”
Light flickered behind my eyelids. I recognized that voice…
“Guided by the Carbuncle, to think I’d find you like this…”
I slowly opened my eyes.
“Hang in there.”
A man’s worried face peered down at me.
“You’re still alive… Let’s take you to Simon.”
—Ah, I see.
I hadn’t remembered at all who saved me back then.
When I arrived in this town, I was apparently found by the riverside on the outskirts — in a terrible state.
Beautiful teal eyes gazed down at me.
It was Gier who saved me that time…
