Chapter 250: You’re Amazing
The firefly stones in the courtyard had gone out one by one, leaving only the last one under the locust tree, casting a green light on the leaves. The dappled light filtered through the gaps in the leaves, falling on Chu Xianning’s white dress.
“Who are you waiting for?”
Luo Yueguan opened the door and walked out from her room. She had been tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep, and decided to come out for some air. As she pushed the door open, she saw Chu Xianning sitting under the tree.
“Nobody.”
Chu Xianning’s reply was very calm, her dark eyes as still as a windless lake. She was just lazily reclining on the lounge chair, enjoying the summer evening breeze, listening to the rustling of the leaves. It had rained during the day, and the night air in the mountains was moist and fresh.
“Jiang Huai won’t be coming back tonight,” Luo Yueguan pouted, and after a moment, Chu Xianning’s eyes moved to her face, showing a hint of confusion, “You really are strange, Luo Yueguan.”
“How so?”
“I’ve never seen you pay so much attention to Jiang Huai before,” Chu Xianning said softly, squinting slightly.
“Am I paying attention to him? I’m concerned about you, okay?” Luo Yueguan moved closer to Chu Xianning, took a seat, and even though her eyes were slightly evasive, her voice was strong.
Chu Xianning thought for a moment, but ultimately said nothing more.
She knew Jiang Huai wouldn’t be coming back tonight, so she had extinguished the firefly stones on the path back to the mountain early. She just wanted to enjoy the breeze in the courtyard alone, that was all.
“What are you concerned about me for?”
“Hey, seriously, what are your thoughts about your rebellious disciple at this moment?” Luo Yueguan leaned in, her eyes cautious yet eager, and then quickly added, “You know me, I can keep a secret. Just tell me quietly, it must be suffocating to keep it all inside.”
Chu Xianning glanced at Luo Yueguan, replying indifferently, “No thoughts.”
“No thoughts? You mean you don’t have any feelings for him at all?”
“Give me one good reason why I should have feelings for him?”
“He’s quite handsome, isn’t he? Sweet-talking and caring, not as rigid and dull as those hypocrites, with a delicate mind to boot. Besides, even if it’s just a little dog you’ve raised for over a decade, you’d develop some affection, right?” Luo Yueguan earnestly listed reasons to Chu Xianning, but Chu Xianning remained silent for a long while before giving her a serious look.
“You don’t seem to be talking to me,” she said slowly. “It’s more like you’re talking to yourself.”
“Don’t throw your dirty water on me. Whoever has a guilty conscience knows it best. I know you’re just concerned about some sort of master-disciple relationship. But a disciple will eventually graduate, right? And when he reaches the eighth realm, won’t that be a beautiful story to tell?”
Chu Xianning’s eyelashes drooped, and she simply stopped looking at her, too lazy to engage any further.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Luo Yueguan muttered discontentedly.
Chu Xianning closed her eyes, too lazy to respond.
“Ignoring people again. After knowing you for so many years, you still have that bad temper. I really don’t know what Jiang Huai likes about you… other than being pretty and as cold as a block of ice…” Luo Yueguan couldn’t help but grumble and complain.
Chu Xianning heard the wind rustling through the leaves, the trees gently swaying. Luo Yueguan’s voice really sounded like that of a resentful woman.
She still didn’t want to talk.
Perhaps in front of others, Luo Yueguan could be all things to all people, keeping her true thoughts hidden. But her biggest flaw was that once in front of someone close, she couldn’t hide her intentions at all. Her few brief sentences had completely exposed her little schemes. Chu Xianning had never liked to interfere with others’ thoughts. Since Luo Yueguan liked it, let her be.
She had never actively meddled in anything related to Jiang Huai. Whoever Jiang Huai wanted to like was his business. In the past, she was obsessed with making Jiang Huai not like her, but now she had let go. Whether he liked her or not, it was his freedom.
Just as Luo Yueguan had known Chu Xianning for more than a day, Chu Xianning had known Luo Yueguan for more than a day too.
Why would she fall for Jiang Huai? Perhaps simply because Jiang Huai was good to her without asking for anything in return. But Chu Xianning knew very well what Jiang Huai was like. Her only direct disciple was a good-natured person, kind to everyone. Perhaps his kindness to Luo Yueguan was only because of his affection for Luo Qingyu, nothing more.
“Are you angry?” Luo Yueguan sensed Chu Xianning’s indifference but continued to prattle on.
“Or is it because he spent fifteen million spirit stones on me and you’re jealous? Ah, such an ungrateful wretch. He’s never spent so much on his master, yet he spends so much on the mother of his future partner…”
Chu Xianning suddenly let out a chuckle.
But with her laugh, the smugness on Luo Yueguan’s face instantly vanished, and her eyes turned cold. “What are you laughing at?”
“Nothing.” Chu Xianning shook her head.
“I have no objections. I think it’s good that you’re so happy now, much better than being a resentful woman in seclusion.”
“Who’s a resentful woman in seclusion?” Luo Yueguan pouted, moving closer to tickle Chu Xianning, but was slapped away by Chu Xianning, who frowned slightly, showing a hint of displeasure.
“I’ve said it many times; I don’t like being touched by others.”
“So Jiang Huai can massage your shoulders? Huh? Don’t tell me it’s because you’ve known each other for so many years and are used to it. We’ve known each other for hundreds of years, and you still give me a cold look if I touch you.”
“He’s massaging, you’re tickling. You’re restless, of course, it’s different.” Chu Xianning replied indifferently. Luo Yueguan gave her a disdainful look and then asked, “What do you think Jiang Huai is doing now?”
“Have you reached the point where you can’t go three sentences without mentioning him?”
“Just testing if you want to talk. Maybe someone is stubbornly hiding their jealousy.”
Chu Xianning felt she needed to rest. Luo Yueguan was really starting to go mad. So, Chu Xianning stood up and walked towards her room, with Luo Yueguan still chattering behind her, “Why don’t you want to talk anymore? Weren’t you unable to sleep? Keep me company a little longer; I can’t sleep either.”
Chu Xianning walked a few steps, then seemed to suddenly remember something and looked back at Luo Yueguan.
Luo Yueguan was still basking in the posture of a victor, her eyes bright and shining, as if Chu Xianning had fled in defeat. The two women looked at each other for a while, and after some serious thought, Chu Xianning slowly said, “Let me remind you of something.”
“What?” Luo Yueguan tilted her head.
“Jiang Huai is pure-hearted and kind to everyone. It’s natural for him to be good to you. Those fifteen million spirit stones, whether for healing your cold veins or for opening the Heavenly Evolution Divine Meridians, are effortless for him. He will be good to you, and of course, he will be even better to Luo Qingyu. Sometimes he may be swayed by passion like a child, but once he calms down, he will still consider the bigger picture.”
“If in the future, to take care of Luo Qingyu’s feelings and reputation, he has to make a choice, it was predetermined from the start. I advise you to put away your strange fantasies early, so you don’t end up like a moth to a flame, knowing the outcome will be tragic, and then wallow in self-pity, complaining about meeting the wrong person.”
After saying this, Chu Xianning saw the flames burning in Luo Yueguan’s eyes. She sighed softly, “If you’re angry now, does that prove I guessed your thoughts correctly? Luo Yueguan.”
“I’m angry that you’re throwing more dirty water on me,” Luo Yueguan retorted with a pout.
“It’s just a reminder. If there’s none, all the better. I’m going to sleep; you should rest early too.”
Chu Xianning turned and continued towards her room. After a few steps, Luo Yueguan’s voice echoed behind her, “What about you? Chu Xianning, what about you?! I don’t believe you really have no feelings for him. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t come to talk to me so much about him… You’ve had these thoughts for a long time, and you can’t fool me!”
Chu Xianning had reached the door and had to stop, turn around, and look at Luo Yueguan helplessly, “So what if I do?”
“You admit it… you finally admit it… you’re no better than me… what right do you have to mock me?”
“I’m not mocking you. I’m just advising you not to do something foolish.”
“What do you mean by advising me not to do something foolish? It’s clear you’re just jealous and afraid I’ll steal what belongs to you!”
“I’m not afraid of being alone,” Chu Xianning shook her head. “It’s pointless to talk to you; better not to say anything.”
With that, Chu Xianning turned and went back to her room, leaving Luo Yueguan alone in the courtyard, looking up at the moon. Her breathing was still a bit rapid, but anger would eventually subside. Alone, she gazed at the lonely moon in the sky, her eyes gradually reddening.
You’re not afraid of being alone; you’re amazing, Chu Xianning.
…
Jiang Huai gradually woke up to the sound of drizzling rain.
His arms were tightly bound, and the soft, greasy body of a young girl clung to his torso, her long, snow-white legs entwining him so tightly that he couldn’t even turn over. A sweet scent lingered at the tip of his nose, unclear whether it was from Wen Wanwan or Qingyu.
He had gone to bed very late last night. Initially, Wen Wanwan and Qingyu were trying to torment each other, but later, because Jiang Huai was too bullying, they became good sisters, united against him. When Wen Wanwan got tired, Qingyu took over. Jiang Huai could almost distinguish them with his eyes closed. He stared at the ceiling for a while before suddenly starting to giggle.
He didn’t have many expectations for many things, but at this moment, it all seemed a bit dreamlike. The two girls’ fragrant and soft bodies were tender and slippery, and he didn’t dare to move, afraid of waking them up.
After a while, Luo Qingyu’s gentle voice was the first to sound. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Jiang Huai looking at her, then she smiled and moved closer, her pink lips glistening. Jiang Huai gently touched her lips, “Time to get up?”
“Mhm.”
Luo Qingyu playfully reached out her hand, passed Jiang Huai, and slapped Wen Wanwan’s tender buttocks, looking at her mischievously, “Time to get up, sister Wanwan.”
Wen Wanwan opened her eyes, still drowsy at first, but when she saw Luo Qingyu’s provocative look, she turned over, pressed against Luo Qingyu, and nestled against her, lowering her head and opening Luo Qingyu’s legs with her knee, “I haven’t settled last night’s score with Qingyu yet.”
Luo Qingyu blinked innocently, “Sister Wanwan is beautiful and kind-hearted; she definitely won’t hold a grudge against Qingyu, right?”
“Of course not, stick your butt out.” Wen Wanwan lightly pinched Luo Qingyu’s cheek, but Luo Qingyu wasn’t angry, just cooing softly, “Sister Wanwan is the best; she definitely won’t hold a grudge.”
“Just two spanks,” Wen Wanwan let go of her fingers.
“Just one, please,” Luo Qingyu’s eyes spun, then she coaxed.
Jiang Huai, leaning to one side, was slightly surprised and then chuckled after a moment.
It seems their relationship is really good now.
