Chapter 257 Night Talk
Dew formed on the leaves by the lake.
A hint of dawn broke on the horizon, like a hazy ink painting. Jiang Huai and Luo Yueguan had sat by the lake fishing all night. They had caught several fish, but the Snow Spirit Fish they were longing for never took the bait. Jiang Huai had thought about using his super bait, but he wasn’t worried about Lingxue True Person getting angry and beating him; he was more concerned that if his master found out he had stolen Lingxue True Person’s fish again, they would both be embarrassed.
Jiang Huai stood up, ready to negotiate with Lingxue True Person for a Snow Spirit Fish, but unexpectedly, a hazy white figure was already approaching across the water—it was Lingxue True Person.
Seeing Lingxue True Person, Jiang Huai felt somewhat guilty, but fortunately, Lingxue True Person just glanced at him and asked, “Came to fish?”
“Yes, I wanted to catch a Snow Spirit Fish to nourish my master.”
“Is Chu Xianning seriously injured?”
“It’s not too bad, thank you for your concern.”
Lingxue True Person looked at him, then pointed to the lake. Moments later, she effortlessly caught a plump Snow Spirit Fish and tossed it into Jiang Huai’s arms. He hurriedly caught it and looked at Lingxue True Person in front of him.
“It’s for you.”
“Thank you, True Person.”
Lingxue True Person’s voice was gentle, “Go back.”
Jiang Huai, holding the fish, returned to the mountain with Luo Yueguan. It was still early, and Chu Xianning had not yet woken up. Jiang Huai went to the kitchen to prepare the Snow Spirit Fish. He used the bones to make a broth, which he then used to cook porridge. He added the fish slices to the nearly finished porridge, and the crispy, sweet, and tender fish blended with the fragrance of the rice. Jiang Huai also prepared several small dishes with delicate pickles, green onions, cilantro, and peanuts.
Then Jiang Huai went to Luo Qingyu’s room to wake her up. He had told her the night before that he was going fishing, and she had obediently agreed. She was still sleeping sweetly, so Jiang Huai leaned in and gently pinched her little face. Luo Qingyu slowly opened her eyes, then her pink lips pouted slightly. Jiang Huai leaned in and kissed her lips gently.
Luo Qingyu obediently got up and dressed.
Chu Xianning, as usual, opened her room door on time, dressed in a simple and elegant white Taoist robe. She came to the table and looked at the fish slice porridge in the porcelain bowl, “Did you steal Lingxue True Person’s fish again?”
“No, Lingxue True Person gave it to my master,” Jiang Huai replied softly.
Chu Xianning nodded slightly, and Jiang Huai continued, “Later, when I’m free, I’ll send her two array diagrams. We can’t owe her this favor for nothing.”
Chu Xianning hummed softly and then picked up the porcelain spoon to eat the porridge.
The sun was just right that day. After breakfast, there was a knock on the door. It was Wen Wanwan, who had naturally seen the terrifying battle in the sky above Tianxuan Sect the day before and had come to visit Chu Xianning.
Chu Xianning spoke softly to her, assuring her that everything was fine, and invited her to sit in the courtyard. Jiang Huai prepared some tea and snacks, and the courtyard was unusually lively with a group of people gathered together. Because they had nothing else to do, they started playing cards again, but this time the stakes were much lower because Wen Wanwan’s spirit stones were indeed not as plentiful as theirs.
Jiang Huai stood by, giving Wen Wanwan tips, but because of his pointing and advising, he ended up losing a couple of hundred spirit stones, which left him feeling aggrieved. When it was time for lunch, he prepared the meal and asked Wen Wanwan to invite Wen Fufu to the courtyard. After lunch, Jiang Huai asked Luo Yueguan to go to the bamboo forest in the backyard to practice swordsmanship, while Wen Fufu took Luo Yueguan’s place.
After practicing swordsmanship with Jiang Huai, Luo Yueguan returned to find that Wen Fufu had amassed a small mountain of chips in front of her.
At dinner time, Wen Fufu came to the kitchen to help Jiang Huai, leaving the four of them in the courtyard to continue playing. The courtyard was rarely this lively, and Jiang Huai felt an inexplicable sense of peace. Sometimes he worried that Chu Xianning might not like too much noise, but occasionally glancing at the courtyard, he saw that even Wen Fufu, who was childish and talkative, could make Chu Xianning’s lips curve slightly. He breathed a sigh of relief.
…
Moonlit night.
Chu Xianning sensed someone outside the door and asked in confusion, “What are you doing?”
“The room next door is too noisy; I came here for some quiet,” Luo Yueguan muttered softly. After a moment of hesitation, Chu Xianning replied softly, “Come in.”
So Luo Yueguan pushed open the door. Inside the room, Chu Xianning had just removed her dress and lay down. In the summer, she didn’t like to wear clothes to sleep. She had been alone in the courtyard for many years and had grown accustomed to it.
Fortunately, Jiang Huai always had good manners and never dared to push open her door rashly. Before entering, he would always stand outside the door for a while. If she sensed Jiang Huai’s presence, she would ask, and if she didn’t speak, Jiang Huai wouldn’t even knock to disturb her.
Luo Yueguan, in a purple nightgown, walked to the bedside, pulled up a chair, and sat down. But then she suddenly noticed something, picked up the bra that Chu Xianning had placed by the bed, and looked at her playfully, “Why is your bra size bigger than before?”
Chu Xianning wouldn’t blush but simply said, “The ones I bought before were a bit small and tight, so I bought a size larger.”
“Oh…” Luo Yueguan leaned back in the chair and remarked, “You’re much quieter now.”
“What do you mean?”
“Qingyu’s room is next to mine, and the young couple is making a lot of noise.” Luo Yueguan finished speaking and then suddenly remembered something, “Wait, is it okay for me to talk about this, or will it make you unhappy?”
Chu Xianning merely glanced at her indifferently, without uttering a word.
“True, you always look at everything so dispassionately… Tell me, what made you think of bringing Jiang Huai to propose to me in the first place?”
“I’m only familiar with you.”
“It’s only because it was you that I agreed. If it had been anyone else, I definitely wouldn’t have. Qingyu and I look so much alike. Back then, I always selfishly thought that I didn’t want Qingyu to get married in this lifetime, otherwise it just felt weird.” Luo Yueguan replied with a smile, and after a moment, her eyes darted around, “But speaking of which, after all this time, have you ever regretted it?”
“I don’t regret the decisions I make,” Chu Xianning replied softly.
“Right.” Luo Yueguan blinked at her, “How about we sleep together tonight?”
“Not a good idea,” Chu Xianning decisively refused.
“I have a reason for suggesting this,” Luo Yueguan said seriously, “I’ve been tossing and turning at night, unable to sleep, and I always end up sneakily using Qingyu’s eyes to see what they’re up to…”
“Shameless,” Chu Xianning glanced at her sideways.
“That’s all in the past. When I really can’t sleep, I just feel like going crazy. So, let’s sleep together tonight. If we do, I can sleep peacefully and won’t think about peeking at what’s happening on Qingyu’s side.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Don’t be so stingy. Back in the secret realm, we slept together on the same mat several times. Back then, you didn’t even get mad when I touched your chest a couple of times. Now you’ve become a miser.”
“Are you proud of that?”
“Didn’t I pinch you back? Geez, they’re so big now, all because of you back then. You’re the one who swelled them up.” Luo Yueguan puffed out her chest, laughing so hard she shook, while Chu Xianning looked at her disdainfully, wrapped herself in the blanket, and turned over, “I’m going to sleep.”
“Keep me company for a chat, you probably can’t sleep anyway.”
“You’re wrong, I can sleep.”
“What if I can’t sleep later and still sneak a peek at them?”
“Are you threatening me?”
“Alright, alright, I know you hate that kind of thing the most. You’re the best, Chu Xianning. Sleep with me, I can’t sleep alone.” Luo Yueguan started to act coquettishly again, and Chu Xianning turned her head away in dissatisfaction, staring at her seriously for several seconds, “No talking nonsense.”
“Just kidding. I’ve thought it through and won’t do that kind of thing anymore. I’ve become good now. Don’t you think you should reward me?”
Chu Xianning always had a hard time dealing with the shameless Luo Yueguan, and eventually, she reluctantly moved over and wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, pointing to the cabinet, “There’s another blanket over there.”
“Okay, okay.” Luo Yueguan happily brought over the other blanket, then joyfully stripped off her clothes, leaving her naked, and came to Chu Xianning’s side, wrapping herself in the small blanket. She only needed to get a little closer to smell the faint floral scent on Chu Xianning’s body.
“You still smell so good,” Luo Yueguan giggled.
Chu Xianning lay flat on the bed, wrapped tightly in the bedding, looking up at the ceiling, “Go to sleep.”
“Let’s chat for a while, I can’t sleep anyway.”
“About what?”
“About the past, do you remember that time in the Ziwei Secret Realm? When we stole that red Zhu fruit…”
Luo Yueguan started to chatter non-stop, and as she did, the random thoughts in Chu Xianning’s head gradually disappeared, and she fell into a certain memory from the past. Slowly, sleepiness overcame her, and she could barely keep her eyes open. She closed her eyes and whispered, “I’m going to sleep.”
“Yeah, I’m getting sleepy too,” Luo Yueguan also wrapped herself tightly and obediently closed her eyes.
…
The next day, early morning.
Jiang Huai was surprised to see Chu Xianning, dressed in a moon-white Hanfu long skirt, stepping out of the room. Her earlobes were adorned with exquisite earrings, and her hairpin was decorated with tassels, looking incredibly beautiful.
Seeing Luo Yueguan follow out from behind her, Jiang Huai was even more surprised. He remembered that his master was actually quite a clean freak, and even when Luo Yueguan previously stayed in the courtyard and acted coquettishly towards Chu Xianning after drinking too much at night, Chu Xianning was unwilling to sleep with her. Yet last night, there was an unexpected amnesty, which was very rare.
Jiang Huai felt as if he was blinded by the bright light surrounding Chu Xianning, while Luo Yueguan, with a hint of boastfulness in her tone, looked at him and said, “Humph, don’t you think I did a good job braiding your master’s hair?”
“It looks good,” Jiang Huai nodded with a light laugh.
After breakfast, Luo Yueguan and Chu Xianning went out for a walk together, while Jiang Huai returned to his room. With no one else in the courtyard, Jiang Huai began to draw a picture for Luo Qingyu. Qingyu’s clothes were half-undone, and the light from the window fell on her collarbone, bright and clear.
After finishing one drawing, Luo Qingyu carefully put it away, then innocently and gently rolled up her skirt, lifting it to her waist, exposing her porcelain white and creamy legs to the sunlight. She looked at Jiang Huai innocently, “I want to draw another one.”
Her clothes had slipped down to her waist, becoming nothing more than decoration, unable to cover anything that should be covered. The excessive exposure was full of allure. As Jiang Huai focused on drawing, he sensed Luo Qingyu’s breathing becoming more and more rapid, as if the petals were slightly glistening with moisture.
Jiang Huai needed a lot of willpower to complete this drawing. His reward was Luo Qingyu coming to his side, lifting her skirt, and carefully sitting on his lap.
