- Chapter 35 - The Far Traveller
Wen Bei pretended to not notice the changing expressions on Li Shi’s face, he simply lowered his eyes and took a sip of water.
There were not many good people in the guild. Wen Bei was not interested in what they had experienced. As for whether they would find an opportunity to take revenge, that was a problem that Qiu Tin had brought upon himself.
He was happy to be in the audience and watch the fun.
After staying in the Dark Fire Guild for a while, Wen Bei couldn’t stand the weird atmosphere and took the initiative to leave.
Qiu Tan narrowed his eyes and nodded to signal him to leave.
It seemed that he really just wanted Wen Bei to take a look at what he was busy with.
Before Wen Bei left, he warned in a low voice: “No killing in the base.”
Qiu Tin raised his eyebrows: “So I can do it outside the base?”
Wen Bei “…No.”
He didn’t expect Qiu Tin to be obedient. He spoke expressionlessly and left.
Not far after Wen Bei walked out of the Dark Fire Guild, he met another familiar figure.
She seemed to be arguing fiercely with someone about something.
Huang Qian had her hands on her hips at the moment, and her face that was used to wearing heavy makeup looked a little plain: “How many times do I have to say it, I did not spread rumours about your captain.”
Bai You was so angry that his eyes were red: “You’re going around spouting nonsense that he is still alive! You also say that he works at a hotel outside the base! How can there be a hotel in this world at this time?!”
Huang Qian sneered: “Don’t think I don’t know that your guild sent people out to look for the Hotel as soon as you people received the news.”
Huang Qian slowly raised her hand, which was a beautiful ladies’ watch: “According to the time, they should have arrived at the Hotel by now.”
She was not shy about sharing the news, because the Hotel was not only capable of producing pre-apocalyptic food and being immune to filth attacks but it could also decrease pollution levels.
A hotel that could reduce pollution levels might be the last straw of survival for countless polluters who had reached the end of their rope.
Huang Qian was also a polluter, and had to once send away a companion with a pollution level of ninety-five. Aware of the helpless feeling of watching her own pollution level rise, she was not ready to do an extremely selfish thing like concealing the existence of the Hotel.
Despite knowing that once the hotel became popular, it would be difficult for her and the people in her guild to access it, she still did not opt to keep its existence a secret.
Huang Qian looked at Bai You who was driven speechless by her words, and started to tease him: “If you don’t want me to go around saying that he is still alive, then do you want me to go around saying that he is dead?”
Bai You was stimulated, and his voice sounded a little trembling: “Shut up!”
Wen Bei accidentally listened to the entire conversation.
His expression was a little helpless.
Why didn’t Ji Mingyuan tell him that he had a little fanboy in the base?
After finding the Hotel, the fanboy would indeed cause a commotion.
Watching the conversation between them turning more into a quarrel between elementary school students, Wen Bei finally couldn’t help but step forward and expose himself.
He was standing behind Bai You, so the first person who saw him was Huang Qian.
Huang Qian originally wanted to say something, but she stopped immediately when she saw him, her eyes widened: “How did you…”
She never dreamed that the unfathomable innkeeper would suddenly appear before her in the Base.
There was a smile in Wen Bei’s eyes, he raised a finger to his lips and shushed softly.
‘Miss, keep it a secret.’
Huang Qian understood instantly and held back the remaining half of the sentence, her face suddenly becoming very exciting.
That expression was even more horrifying than when she saw Ji Mingyuan alive in the hotel.
When Bai You saw the expression on the woman before him who was always at odds with him, he quickly turned around suspiciously. When he saw Wen Bei, his expression became wary: “Who are you?”
Chapter 31
Wen Bei looked at Huang Qian and rolled his eyes, with a smile on his face: “I am Miss Huang’s friend.”
Bai You looked at the young man with black hair and black eyes in front of him and couldn’t help but get swayed.
He looked so amazing, clean and harmless, making even simple criticism seem cruel.
Bai You was prepared to argue with Huang Qian, however the words were inexplicably stuck at the tip of his tongue; and he couldn’t say them out.
Facing Wen Bei’s extremely innocent eyes, he suddenly felt that he had gone too far. Anyways, the matter of whether Huang Qian and the others were lying would be cleared by the time the people whom their guild had sent out to investigate returned.
When the time came, he would definitely sue the court and make those who spread the false rumours pay a heavy price.
Brother Ji was such a good person, but, even after his death, they still had to fabricate things out of thin air…
There was anger in Bai You’s eyes and he stopped talking to Huang Qian. He just glared at her angrily before running away.
Huang Qian walked to Wen Bei and felt a little apologetic: “He is the youngest member of the White Eagle Guild. He was recruited into their guild this year as soon as he came of age. His powers are quite practical, but he is quite naive.”
Wen Bei blinked: “It doesn’t matter. It’s just like the Hotel, if you hadn’t seen it with your own eyes, you wouldn’t believe it existed.”
Huang Qian’s expression became complicated. She was very grateful to Wen Bei and his hotel, but she felt a little panicked when he appeared before her: “Boss, how are you in the base?”
Was it possible that there had been too many people checking out the Hotel recently that the Hotel supplies could no longer support it?
Huang Qian calculated deeply in her mind, it was what she was most worried about.
She didn’t know if that magical hotel could always provide supplies and reduce pollution for polluters.
At a glance, Wen Bei could guess what she was thinking about, immediately, he shook his head and said: “Don’t worry, the Hotel is still operating normally. The Butler Rabbit and Ji Mingyuan are watching over it. The purpose of my visit this time is to discuss a cooperation with the Base.”
Huang Qian was delighted: “Will the Hotel stay open?”
Wen Bei responded in the affirmative.
Huang Qian couldn’t hide her smile at that time. She patted her chest and said, “If you need any help, you can feel free to approach me.”
She didn’t feel that her relationship with Wen Bei was that of an ordinary customer and boss, instead she regarded him as her lifesaver.
If her team and she hadn’t encountered the Hotel at that moment, then all of them would have died there.
Wen Bei thought for a moment: “Actually, I have one favour to ask of you.”
Huang Qian: “What?”
Wen Bei: “Can you be my bodyguard for a few days?”
Huang Qian was stunned for a moment, finding his request quite unexpected.
Wen Bei: “I will pay you.”
Huang Qian quickly shook her head: “No, I’ll do it without payment.”
Wen Bei still insisted. His smile was gentle, but what he offered was hard to refuse: “I can give you a reservation voucher. When the Hotel’s hot spring is developed, you will be one of the first batch of guests.”
Huang Qian’s eyes widened a bit. She had seen the magic of the Hotel. Although she still didn’t know what effects the hot springs had, her intuition from deep within told her that it had to be a good thing that everyone would flock towards.
So she no longer refused, and simply nodded: “Okay, then I will provide you protection for the next few days.”
Wen Bei: “Thank you.”
…
With Huang Qian by his side, Wen Bei obviously felt less malicious scrutiny while walking around in the base, but the prying eyes did not decrease.
As one of the well-known polluters in the base, Huang Qian had many men around her, but she had never been in a relationship with ordinary people.
Wen Bei standing next to her made them look more like a pair of siblings than something romantic.
The two of them turned a blind eye to the countless curious glances being thrown at them, and soon Wen Bei found Captain Lan, who had agreed the previous day to help him.
He looked busy, holding a file of documents to deal with the next group of far travellers.
When he saw Wen Bei approaching himself, he signalled the other party with his eyes to wait.
Wen Bei: “Who is the Far Traveler?”
Huang Qian: “They are the dying people who will be sent out of the base.”
Far Travelers, it had a nice sound to it, but when the army went out to collect supplies and information, they would just abandon these people as rubbish or burdens.
People without any weapons in their hands were thrown directly outside the base, and the final outcome was not hard to guess— death. When the army was sure that they were dead, they would return to the base with the materials collected on the road, killing two birds with one stone.
Wenbei: “Does this include death row prisoners and polluters with high pollution levels?”
Huang Qian: “Yes, but among the recent batch of far travellers, there seems to be no polluter with a pollution level of 95.”
Huang Qian paused again before speaking: “If Ji Mingyuan had not chosen to leave the base by himself, his name would have also appeared on this list.”
If someone survived a catastrophe, he would be blessed later; this sentence was very much applicable to Ji Mingyuan.
His luck was so good that it made people a little jealous.
Cheng Jie is probably also on the list.
He had killed many innocent people, there was no way he would survive to make it to the next list of Far Travelers.
Wen Bei didn’t feel sorry for him.
During the conversation, Captain Lan finally finished what he was doing and came over. He looked at Huang Qian who stood next to Wen Bei. As a high-level polluter, the two of them knew each other. After saying hello, he started to lead the way.
He wasn’t too curious about why Huang Qian was following Wen Bei.
Wen Bei followed him to the north area of the base, which was completely different from the large factories in the south area. It was also called the soul of the base.
It was an area dedicated to the base’s food, raw materials and supplies.
It was difficult for ordinary people to come in.
With the help of Captain Lan, Wen Bei successfully arrived at the largest breeding farm in the base.
Huang Qian didn’t understand why he was interested in the breeding farm of the base, so she watched with him without saying a word.
Wen Bei first went from curiosity to shock.
The power of human beings could never be underestimated, and the equipment was complete to the extent that it even had its own feeding system.
The farm divides the contaminated and mutated edible animals into several areas according to the specification.
Among them was a kind of black pig, each of which could grow up to two metres high. Humans looked petite standing in front of them. They could only be enclosed with high fences. The living space for the black pig was probably only enough to turn around. There were feeding troughs and water troughs in front of them. The sticky food inside couldn’t be distinguished from what it was made of.
Due to pollution, each black pig had dozens of large tumours on its body. Those tumours looked very familiar to Wen Bei.
Captain Lan smiled: “You guessed it right, these tumours are the raw materials for the Snowflake Factory.”
T/N Note :
I know I haven’t uploaded for a while now. And I’ll try to fix that. As I think I’ve mentioned long ago, I have returned to college, along with which I even ran out of stockpiled chapters and that’s the excuse for my absence. I’m working on stockpiling again but it’s gonna take a little time. So until then, one chapter per week, either Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
