Chapter 49 – Dealing With a Theft
After the Rabbit Butler left, Wen Bei planned to leave without much precaution. Unexpectedly, as soon as he walked out of the restaurant, he bumped into a man dressed in black.
The man had only one eye, which was the result of the distortion by pollution, and he was blinking frantically out of guilt.
The one-eyed man suddenly relaxed after seeing Wen Bei and the thing in his hand: “Brother, are you also here for that?”
It seems that he didn’t recognize him as the owner.
Wen Bei raised an eyebrow: “What do you mean?”
The one-eyed man gave a look as if saying that he didn’t need to lie. “Of course it’s to steal.”
Wen Bei: “…”
He was silent for a moment, then looked down and saw the potato chips in his hand, so he nodded and agreed.
The one-eyed man continued: “I just arrived at this place yesterday and stayed in an hourly room. When my time was up, I was asked to leave by that damn Ji Mingyuan.”
Wen Bei: “And?”
The one-eyed man sneered: “The things here are so powerful, I can just smuggle them back to the base and sell them. Then I won’t have to risk my life to leave the base to do missions anymore, right?”
Wen Bei: “You are so smart. Why didn’t I think of this method? I only thought of stealing food.”
The one-eyed man glanced at Wen Bei and felt elated when he found out that the other party was very handsome. He had some bad thoughts: “You followed some polluter on a mission, right? He didn’t even let you have enough food, did he? You might as well follow me. I guarantee you will have good food and drink, and I won’t let you leave the base.”
After he spoke, he wanted to touch Wen Bei’s delicate face in a frivolous way, but was avoided.
There was no warmth in Wen Bei’s eyes, but his words were a little timid: “If you want to steal, you better be quick, it will be bad if someone notices you.
The one-eyed man obviously knew Ji Mingyuan and was very afraid of him. Upon hearing his words, he withdrew his hand and did not dare to waste any more time. He walked towards the retail area while still trying to convince Wen Bei.
When he saw the drastically changed retail area, he was stunned, and then his eyes burst into greed. “I just haven’t been here for one day and everything has changed. This hotel is really amazing.”
Wen Bei smiled: “Yeah, it’s amazing.”
He really wanted to know what the Hotel would do in cases of thefts, so he didn’t expose the man and just followed him quietly, observing his every move.
One-Eye regretted that the sack he brought was not big enough. He simply shoved everything on the shelf into it without thinking twice. The moment he saw the vending machine, he wanted the drinks inside.
Unfortunately, the vending machine required crystals to function, so no matter how hard he smashed it, there was no damage.
The one-eyed man was afraid that the noise would be too loud and attract attention, so he gave up after smashing it twice. Instead, he filled his sack with other retail items, picked it up and ran out.
Nothing happened until he ran out of the retail area, but just as he passed the restaurant cashier counter, the cashier counter suddenly issued a reminder: 【You have not paid yet, please pay by yourself. 】
The card machine at the cash register lit up, indicating that the payment should be made there.
The one-eyed man was startled by the sudden sound and didn’t dare to move for a long time.
Wen Bei walked over and nothing happened.
He became bolder and ordered, “Go pay.”
After saying that, he planned to run while no one was around. Just as he was about to reach out to touch the handle of the restaurant’s door, an iron gate suddenly fell down from above, blocking his way. He stepped back suddenly, and unexpectedly encountered an iron railing behind him.
Several iron bars appeared from nowhere in front and behind, and they locked him inside, turning it into a simple prison for temporary confinement.
The one-eyed man stood there with a look of horror on his face. The first thing he wanted to do was to use his ability to escape. His ability involved burrowing into the ground, but no matter how hard he tried, he failed.
He could only stretch out his hand and try to squeeze through the gap in the iron railing, but he got stuck after squeezing out only a few fingers. He collapsed: “Help me! What should I do?!”
He shouted at Wen Bei.
Wen Bei frowned in some confusion, but the corners of his mouth slightly raised: “What can I do?”
Hi’s eyes fell on the iron bars that had suddenly appeared, and he observed them calmly.
The iron railings were entangled with sharp thorns, and it was difficult to break free even if there was no restriction at the top.
It was the first time he had seen the Hotel use such a method to defend against thieves.
The red light at the cash register was still flashing, and the gentle female voice was reminding the man that he had not paid.
The one-eyed man was almost scared to death, he relied on his ability to burrow underground and usually did a lot of sneaky things in the base, he didn’t expect that after being caught this time he wouldn’t be able to use his abilities.
The person who seemed arrogant just a while ago is now as anxious as an ant on a hot pan.
When he saw Wen Bei standing there motionless, great hope emerged in his heart: “You just ate without paying, you must be able to help me, right?”
”Help me quickly, I’ll give you enough crystals!”
The one-eyed man spoke a little louder and covered his mouth in fear.
Wen Bei said slowly: “How many?”
He was still holding the half-finished bag of potato chips in his hand, which was the biggest reason why he was considered an accomplice.
The man was anxious. He fumbled for the only crystal card on his body and said, “Here you go. All of them are yours!”
Wen Bei narrowed his eyes and took the crystal card: “Thank you.”
One-Eye: “Help me quickly…”
Tap. Tap.
Suddenly, footsteps were heard from outside the restaurant.
The person walked very quickly. It only took a few seconds from the time he made the noise to the time his figure appeared in front of the two of them.
Wen Bei turned his head and saw Ji Mingyuan, who should have been resting in the room.
His right eye was filled with anger. When he saw Wen Bei, he paused for a moment and strode forward: “Are you okay?”
It seems that his security guard is very responsible.
Wen Bei smiled and said, “I’m okay. Why are you here?”
Ji Mingyuan: “The Hotel will automatically remind me when there is any trouble.”
It was his duty as a security guard.
Wen Bei: “It seems that you have encountered this situation more than once during the few days I was away.”
Ji Mingyuan nodded, his dark right eye fixed on the one-eyed man.
Hearing their conversation, the man was stunned for a moment. His fear of Ji Mingyuan made his brain unable to function normally.
He collapsed: “Who are you?”
The sentence was directed at Wen Bei.
Wen Bei tilted his head, looking innocent, but the bright smile in his eyes made him look like the devil.
“I’m the owner of the Hotel.”

Huang Qian looked back in confusion. She had just left KTV.
The level of the polluter next to her was lower than hers, and his hearing was not as sensitive as hers. He also turned around and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Huang Qian shrugged: “Nothing, I just seemed to hear someone screaming.”
The man still had the excitement in his eyes from the song he had just sung: “It must be an illusion.”
Huang Qian tilted her head and listened carefully: “Yeah.”
Where they couldn’t see, the one-eyed man, who had been beaten up, had just been gagged.
Wen Bei looked worried: “It would be bad if we disturbed other guests.”
One-Eye: “Mmmmm!”
His only eye was in so much pain that he could hardly open it.
Wen Bei said calmly, “Do you want to get out of here by yourself, or stay here as a fertiliser in the garden?”
The seemingly delicate little white flowers in the garden became excited at his words.
They have been growing well recently, and it’s obvious that Ji Mingyuan hasn’t treated them badly.
The one-eyed man stopped struggling immediately. He endured the pain, squatted down, and really rolled out on the ground along the cobblestone path.
Even though his whole body was in pain from being hit by the stones, he dared not make a sound.
Because he could see that the owner of the Hotel was not joking!
After dealing with the one-eyed man, the moonlight had become richer.
The moon in the end times revealed a colder feeling than ever before.
Wen Bei’s fingertips were red and slightly cold.
Ji Mingyuan lowered his head and noticed it. His expression, which had just been cold, became a little more serious: “Go back and rest.”
In the end times, even a minor cold needed professional attention.
Once the body’s immunity decreases, the probability of being contaminated would increase.
Wen Bei shrank his neck and muttered, “Is the temperature really going to drop?”
=•°•=•°•=
Unexpectedly, his words came true.
Wen Bei woke up the next day because he was cold.
He looked out the window and saw nothing but white snow.
It was snowing heavily. After just one night, the ground was covered with a layer of snow. There were a few footprints on it, which seemed to be left by travellers.
Wen Bei rubbed his eyes, looked through his closet, and when he found that there were no thick clothes, he simply went to the system’s mall to buy some.
The moment he put on his sweater and coat, he felt alive and went to get some hot water to wash up.
Only then did the temperature of his hands and feet finally return to normal.
He was a little worried about the passengers, but when he came out he found that everyone was wearing thick clothes to keep warm.
Ji Mingyuan was also wearing a black windbreaker, which was given to him by Bai You.
Seeing Wen Bei’s confused expression, he explained, “The weather in the apocalypse is unpredictable. Generally, to prevent accidents, polluters who go out on missions prepare an extra set of winter clothes.
