After Transmigrating into an Evil God - Chapter 10
Li Chi was studying the karmic thread he had plucked down.
After he had plucked this karmic thread, it no longer flickered between visible and invisible states, but instead condensed into a thread existing between the virtual and real. When solid, it looked like a semi-transparent silk thread; when ethereal, it could be seen but not touched.
He took the thread and hooked a sycamore fruit with it, dangling it on the ground to tease a small mouse.
The little mouse pounced left and right playfully. The thread was so fine that without paying attention, it got tangled up in it, tripping over its own feet and sitting there dazed, only knowing to look up at him.
Li Chi moved his finger, and the thread transformed into an intangible, untouchable state, separating itself from the little mouse.
The sycamore fruit also fell down. The little mouse played with it for a while, found it boring, then hooked the thread dangling on the ground, wanting to tie it back up.
Li Chi was pondering the function of this fine thread. He had tried to restore it, returning it to the karmic thread that connected him and Ding Qin, but after being plucked, this fine thread seemed to have changed its characteristics and could no longer return to its original form.
He had tried tying the fine thread to two different living beings, but it was no different from tying an ordinary thread—it couldn’t create a karmic effect between them out of thin air.
It seemed to have lost all functions related to karmic effect, becoming just an ordinary thread. Although incredibly resilient and able to transform between virtual and real states, Li Chi had a vague feeling there was still something he hadn’t discovered.
Li Chi pondered in his heart while his hands stayed busy. His fingers wound around twice, causing the thread hanging to the ground to flutter, leading the silly little mouse to chase after it.
When Ding Qin arrived here with Jin Yan, this was the scene they witnessed.
The black-haired, dark-eyed deity sat on a stone block in the courtyard, one hand resting on the table surface, palm supporting his temple, the other hand hanging by the table’s edge, fingertips wound with a fine thread that dangled to the ground, teasing a small mouse with purple-gray fur.
His half-lowered eyes showed none of the cold, ethereal quality from when he wielded his sword, but instead carried a lazy, leisurely air of having descended to the mortal world.
The deity looked up, and heaven and earth brightened.
Ding Qin stood there in a daze while Jin Yan had already fluttered his wings and flew over, chattering to Li Chi about the situation.
“Ding Qin?” Li Chi called out.
“It’s me!” Ding Qin instinctively replied. Realizing she had been staring blankly, her ear tips reddened again, and she mumbled, unable to speak clearly.
Why is the little girl standing there in a daze? Li Chi thought as he looked at her. Don’t tell me she bumped her head?
His method of treating her was something he had figured out himself, and he had practiced it on Ding Qin without having tested it before. The brain is a delicate thing—could it be that he hadn’t examined it properly?
After all, she was his first patient. Although he had healed her injuries, he had also tested his magical techniques on her.
Thinking of this, Li Chi’s expression became even gentler as he asked, “Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
“No, no,” Ding Qin said hurriedly. “Nothing hurts. I came… I wanted to come and thank you. If it weren’t for you, I would have died there.”
Speaking of this, Ding Qin recalled the terror of being hunted by the wolf demon, that gaping maw full of sharp teeth seeming right before her eyes…
“Just a small favor,” Li Chi said.
His voice brought Ding Qin back to her senses. The sunlight was bright, and the deity’s aura was clear and pure. Ding Qin’s fear gradually dissolved, and her tense muscles relaxed.
Li Chi continued asking, “The mountains are dangerous. How did you walk so deep into them by yourself?”
Ding Qin pressed her lips together. As her fear subsided, sadness gradually arose. She let out a long breath and slowly said, “I’m from Ding Family Village…”
“Ding Family Village—that’s quite far,” Jin Yan interjected. “That’s beyond Great King Yishan’s protection range. How did you end up running so far? What about the deity you worship there?”
“We worship a Crane God,” Ding Qin said. She touched her chest, grasping the crane feather that had lost its power, and said dejectedly, “I could only survive by leaving.”
“Crane God?” Jin Yan perked up with interest, asking curiously, “Is it a demon god that has already achieved cultivation, or a demon still in training? Does he still migrate? Why did he stay in your area?”
Ding Qin was stumped, not knowing how to answer.
Li Chi glanced at Jin Yan, and the chatterbox quickly said, “You continue, you continue. I’m just asking casually.”
Ding Qin’s overwhelming sorrow was scattered by his interruption, and her mood calmed considerably.
“Is it related to your eyes?” Li Chi asked.
He could see there was a seal on Ding Qin’s eyes, with an aura that shared the same source as the crane feather at her neck. However, this seal didn’t seem very successful—it was slowly dissolving, leaking spiritual energy.
Ding Qin nodded and said, “It was sealed by the White Crane God we worship.”
“I was born with spiritual eyes that can observe qi and see ghosts and gods, but I don’t understand cultivation and easily attract trouble. The Crane God said my eyes were becoming increasingly powerful, and she could no longer protect me. She told me to go to a large town to find a powerful deity for protection.”
However, her eye power was growing too quickly. Although the Crane God had tried her best to seal her eyes, the seal was broken halfway through her journey, and the leaked aura attracted demons.
She had originally been traveling along the road, but that wolf demon had used some kind of soul-confusing magic that made her unknowingly deviate into the mountains. The seal had also affected her vision, leaving her in a sorry state.
Jin Yan clicked his tongue. “Your Crane God isn’t very capable. At the very least, she should have given you more protection before sending you out. Isn’t this like throwing a sheep into a tiger’s den?”
“The Crane God is very good!” Ding Qin retorted. She clutched the crane feather at her chest and said, “She gave me a feather talisman. If the seal hadn’t broken and attracted so many demons, the feather talisman would have been enough to sustain me until I reached a town.”
Jin Yan tilted his head and asked, “What about your parents? Were they comfortable letting you travel such a distance alone?”
Ding Qin’s expression darkened. “They died early. I was raised by the villagers.”
Jin Yan paused for a moment, then comforted her. “Don’t be sad. We’re pretty much the same—I was kicked out of the nest too. Look at us now, we’re doing pretty well!”
Ding Qin was amused by him and showed a bit of a smile.
“What do you plan to do next?” Li Chi asked.
Ding Qin looked at him and asked cautiously, “Can I stay?”
Her traveling pack had been lost during the chase, the seal on her eyes was about to fail, and the crane feather talisman had exhausted its power. Moreover, she really didn’t want to experience another escape like the previous one.
She was actually quite afraid of pain and very afraid of death.
She wanted to live.
Li Chi pondered thoughtfully.
This was just a wild mountain dwelling. He himself had a divine body and didn’t need food or fear cold or heat, so living here wasn’t a problem. But Ding Qin was a living young girl—she needed food and clothing, and at only in her teens, she also needed human contact. These were things the mountain dwelling couldn’t provide.
Seeing this, Ding Qin became increasingly nervous and anxious. “I can work and do all sorts of things. I can also serve as a divine messenger. The Crane God said my eyes are very useful!”
Li Chi shook his head. Setting aside these considerations, he himself was still carrying troubles—he had an enemy of unknown whereabouts, making it inappropriate to have too many entanglements. So he said, “I’m not…”
He had originally wanted to explain, but Ding Qin was about to cry.
Li Chi sighed and instead said, “Come here. Let me see if I can seal your eyes.”
Ding Qin obediently walked over, her pair of bright, lively eyes full of nervous anxiety.
Li Chi raised his hand. “Close your eyes.”
Ding Qin closed her eyes. Her eyelids felt slightly cool as the deity’s fingertips touched her eyes.
Li Chi carefully extended his divine power inward. There were still remnants of the Crane God’s seal on Ding Qin’s eyes. Li Chi didn’t rush to deal with it but first carefully explored how this seal functioned.
Ding Qin’s eyes were different from ordinary people’s. They contained two spiritual mechanisms within. The spiritual mechanisms acted like pivots, communicating with other spiritual mechanisms between heaven and earth, allowing many things invisible to mortals to fall into her sight.
The demon god’s divine power had drawn runes that locked the two spiritual mechanisms within, making them no longer active. However, the runes were slightly damaged, causing qi to leak out and communicate with heaven and earth.
Li Chi had a sudden understanding.
Spiritual mechanisms were like seals, and runes were like covers. To seal Ding Qin’s spiritual eyes, he needed to lock away the spiritual mechanisms in her eyes.
Li Chi had already utilized different spiritual mechanisms between heaven and earth—for example, when he had previously touched the spiritual mechanism of wind, making it his door and window. But he had never tried sealing spiritual mechanisms before.
As he was contemplating, a sudden flash of inspiration struck his heart, and dormant knowledge was instantly triggered.
Sealing was also concealing—it was both restriction and hiding.
Chains, runes, ropes, sealing strips for closure, a single seal applied. He saw so many sealing methods, absorbed like salt dissolving into water, though only an instant had passed.
Li Chi came back to his senses and suppressed his restless heart. He hadn’t planned to use his newly acquired sealing methods. Eyes were delicate and important organs, and his sealing techniques hadn’t been practiced yet—it would be bad if he harmed the young girl.
The Crane God’s seal wasn’t broken, just damaged slightly. Li Chi planned to first follow the original seal’s pathways and mend the Crane God’s seal to completeness.
But sealing wasn’t like writing characters that could be repeatedly reinforced. He could only complete it in one go.
How much divine power should he use? Too little would make the seal insufficiently stable, but too much might damage the original seal. The Crane God’s seal was quite special, utilizing her unique power characteristics. If completely destroyed, it probably couldn’t be restored.
Since the Crane God could protect a region, according to Jin Yan, that made her a great demon. And he was currently just an injured and weakened deity whose divine power was barely enough to lay a foundation. To repair a seal that a great demon had put her full effort into…
Li Chi finished weighing his options and channeled ninety percent of his divine power into it.
The next instant, the seal completely shattered.
Li Chi was stunned.
