- Chapter 4 - Otaku won't understand the heart of the bias
The Heart of the Bias, Otaku Won’t Understand
Albert Bennett’s master is a girl of 17 years old.
In the world, she has been given the exaggerated name of “Villainous Princess”, but once she takes off that mask, she is just an odd woman who gets worked up for weird things.
It’s a wonder for Albert how her true nature hasn’t been exposed until now, but it’s a little complicated because he knows it’s probably due to the acting skills he taught her.
Both of her parents are so busy immersing themselves in debauchery, hanging out with their lovers in secret clubs, that they rarely come back home.
It had been this way since Eldia was 7.
10 years ago, she appeared abruptly before the despairing Albert.
In the middle of a hellscape of scattered blood and flesh, there stood a girl in such a beautiful dress that didn’t match the place, her chestnut hair and deep green eyes as unreal as a fairy’s.
I even wondered if some demon tribe had come to haunt me.
Despite this, the girl who appeared in front of Albert had tears spilling from her green eyes.
It made her feel more like a human but not a single ray of beauty was lost.
To the point I was fascinated by those tears which conveyed an agonizing sadness far greater than my despair after being robbed of everything I believed in.
Then the girl grasped Albert’s bloodied hand before he could dodge.
“My number one bias is all bruised and battered, I can’t stand it!!!!”
She exclaimed something incomprehensible.
Moreover, with the knife she was holding, she made a small cut on her finger and shoved it into Albert’s mouth.
There was supposed to be no one who knew about his constitution anymore but he ended up taking the blood before he could put up a guard.
Crying continuously, the girl then pulled him by the hand to a large mansion.
“Please stay in my house until your wounds get better, I beg of you. I can’t do anything for you but I’ll give you a futon, a bath, and food, and it’s completely OK even if you steal. If you don’t mind, I will hire you and pay you, so ! ! !”
After the girl incomprehensibly pleaded, just like that, he stayed in the mansion.
Although his suspicions were not completely lifted, Albert, who came to his senses, realized that she was serious about hiring him when a uniform was prepared a day after he had been given her word.
Already aware that this was the notorious Euclair family, he soon understood that Eldia had been neglected by her parents and that she had been abused by the servants who hated her parents.
Eldia herself didn’t reveal this for the sake of peace and quiet but normally, one would’ve just cursed everything, eventually heading to their doom. I was the same.
And yet, Eldia did not even show such a sign, and everytime she saw Albert, she said happily.
“Thank you for being alive today!”
I couldn’t understand the unconditional love that was directed at me with both body and soul, so I observed her thoroughly, wondering if she had lost her mind.
By the time he understood that they were her true feelings, Albert had already fallen so deep. It took him a while to realize that his observation was just an excuse to not lose sight of her. He couldn’t let go of the light and warmth he felt for the first time.
Since he had been observing her for a long time, it was inevitable that he would become aware of the secret she held.
Then, he also wanted to know about the concept of ‘bias’ that he was being subjected to.
He noticed that she seemed to know the future of this world, sneaking around to move things in a better direction. So he asked her about it.
Listening to the events she told him, Albert worked out why she had saved him, and why she seemed incredibly mature.
However, at the same time, Albert became troubled by certain emotions.
She would move at her own expense if it was the sake of her ‘bias’. She’d say that they’re her happiness and also the meaning of her existence.
The subject of her adoration was not only the hero and the saintess. It included the people who supported them by the sidelines.
Nevertheless, those people wouldn’t know of her achievements, even though she had sacrificed herself so much.
I’m angry at those who denounce her as a villainess and at her for giving her all.
More than anything, I hate that she has places for other ‘biases’ in her heart.
I never thought I would have such feelings.
I know that my feelings are completely inappropriate as an attendant.
After all, the person of her adoration is the ‘Albert’ of the game world, not me.
I don’t understand the concept of ‘bias’ clearly, no matter how much Eldia has told me, but I’m glad I’m not the one who doesn’t get to meet her.
But still.
“……When will I be able to beat my game self, I wonder”
Albert sighed as he patrolled the mansion in the evening darkness.
The house is now even quieter with only the bare minimum of servants.
Eldia is put to bed early. At first, she gave me a list of reasons why she wouldn’t sleep but as soon as I looked down at her, behaving in the way I apparently did in the game, she gave me a thumbs-up and sank into bed.
This immediate effect makes me a little worried if this woman will be alright and even if I try to cut those concerns in half, the remaining half still isn’t funny.
The reason she let go of herself in front of me every now and then is probably because I don’t feel like the ‘Albert’ that is in her memory.
Albert does not regret his choice. Until she clearly says she doesn’t need him, he’ll pretend not to know and stay by her side.
But even so, there are still things to wonder about.
“Why does Eldia sama try to make me suck her blood with such ease? No, she had always been the kind of person who would shout “For the sake of bias” with all her power, hadn’t she?”
That’s why I have to worry in her stead.
Albert knew as her closest aide. About how much of this country’s life was prolonged by her.
Despite this, the country is not kind to her and it is full of fools too.
So much so that they send this kind of thing against the, who are finally trying to leave the stage.
When Albert stopped with a deliberate thump of his leather shoes, the assassins who were trying to get in through the window turned to look at him.
The other side presumably thought there was no value to Eldia’s life after her title was stripped away at such a prominent tea party. He had already guessed some organizations with a grudge would come for revenge.
But the threat in Albert’s assessment was low because they didn’t notice him until he had gotten this close.
That said, they probably assembled some of the best men in the country.
There were signs of battle from all over the mansion. Even if they’re this kind of quality, it’s quite a threat when they have this many numbers.
Only if this wasn’t Euclair’s mansion and the opponent wasn’t Albert though.
“…..Good grief, it’s very impolite to visit at this late hour, isn’t it? You’ve likely come to get rid of us. But you’re underestimating the residence of the villainous princess”
As soon as he finished sighing mockingly, the assassins attacked at once.
However, Albert was in no hurry and casually threw the secret weapons he had in his sleeves.
The assassins knocked them off as they flew sharply towards them, but by that time, Albert was already in close proximity.
Albert blew a palm strike to the chest of the nearest one, with more force than usual.
When the other was about to fall forward, without mercy, he pulled his head and kicked him with his knees.
Albert had become an attendant but he had plenty of opportunities to use his skills when he was around her.
In fact, it was highly possible that various dangers would befall on Eldia if his skills became blunt so even now, he is diligently striving to improve.
Furthermore, Albert had received special training from Eldia called ‘leveling up’.
It was something that even he thought he had done well to endure.
In all likelihood, he is much stronger now than when he was a freelance assassin.
He threw the person whose nose he broke which hit the one beside, and then he gave a twisted kick to the person lurking behind his back.
Without looking away even when the other was blasted to the wall, Albert drew the dagger at his waist, ignoring the flying needles and closing in on the enemy.
Because that level of wound doesn’t register as a wound to him.
However, as soon as he was stabbed, he felt a burning heat on his skin and a light sensation of weakness in his body.
“Silver plated weapon? You seem to have done some research”
Nevertheless, Albert is not a pure vampire.
Setting aside the weakening, Albert overpowered his opponent, grabbed him by the chin, and forced him to swallow a vial he had taken from his pocket.
The coughing assassin looked shocked.
“As I thought, you planted the poison for suicide, didn’t you? I can guess what you people think after failing more or less”
It was one of the extremely potent recovery potions that Eldia had her magic researcher create, using her knowledge of the game.
Especially the one Albert used just now. It can instantly detoxify any poison as long as the recipient isn’t already dead.
Even if she had the knowledge, it was something that did not yet exist in this world. I think she is a frightening genius since she has easily made it into something that has practical use.
“My biases need it after all”. When she said it nonchalantly and tried to distribute it at a price that could destroy the economy, I blocked her between me and the wall to persuade her politely.
I didn’t intend to make her pass out with a bloody nose. Let’s leave this talk for now.
“Rest assured, we have medicine that’ll heal your wounds in an instant. Now now, I’d like to know about your employer to cut off any potential concern, you see”
Having lost the means to die, the assassin looked up at Albert and shuddered.
My heart doesn’t move at all even when I look at this. That’s why I’m not suited for an underworld profession.
He smiled beautifully as he thought about it.
“I’m in a bad mood right now. If you don’t speak up soon, you’re going to lose a finger or two, you know?”
The smell of blood made Albert feel inebriated, but he put the black gloves back on his clean hands.
The spot where the silver needle had pierced his hand was burning. He grudgingly regretted fighting roughly because he was a little worked up.
But he couldn’t be distracted otherwise.
“I can’t taste the blood of my precious one that easily, can I…….”
That woman is extremely lacking in those kinds of emotions. That said, I’m also a lost cause for understanding that yet still devoting my heart to her.
Because I’ve been away from blood for quite some time, my self control has become lax. I must be careful.
My subordinates have reported that they have already taken care of the situation in various places.
All that’s left is to decide what the retaliation will be.
I want to cut off any potential concern when I think about Eldia’s safety.
While trying to think of a way, I was about to go and check on Eldia’s room.
Albert’s blood ran cold when he noticed noises coming from Eldia’s room.
