Can a System Have Bad Intentions? - Chapter 99
Liang Cheng looked at Qin Mo with a complex expression, clenching his fists tightly for a moment. Then he stepped forward and stood next to Lu Tang, saying to Qin Mo, “Thank you, Young Master Qin, for saving us.”
Qin Mo smiled, “It’s nothing.”
His nonchalant attitude made Liang Cheng uncomfortable.
Not only had he failed to protect Lu Tang, but he also nearly caused her to get beaten. In his most vulnerable moment, Qin Mo had effortlessly resolved the situation.
Feeling a knot in his throat, Liang Cheng asked, “Young Master Qin, do you know Boss Dou? He seemed very afraid of you. Boss Dou doesn’t seem like an ordinary local thug.”
Zhou Shu widened his eyes at Liang Cheng, tugging Xu Shen’s sleeve, whispering, “Why is he talking like that?”
Guo Dawei also whispered, “It sounds a bit ungrateful and resentful. Young Master Qin just saved us.”
Xu Shen looked between Liang Cheng and Qin Mo, finally settling his gaze on Lu Tang. A thought popped into his head, and he shuddered.
Damn! I must be overthinking this!
Qin Mo glanced at Liang Cheng and said calmly, “Yes, if he weren’t afraid of me, you all would have been beaten up.”
Liang Cheng felt a surge of anger. If Lu Tang hadn’t been spending so much time with Qin Mo, he wouldn’t have been so irritable, and today’s incident wouldn’t have happened.
Clenching his fists, Liang Cheng suppressed his anger, “Thank you again, Young Master Qin. If you hadn’t arrived in time, we would’ve been in real trouble.”
His words sounded grateful, but the underlying accusation was clear.
If the man feared you so much, why didn’t you come out earlier?
Were you waiting to make a grand entrance?
Zhou Shu couldn’t listen anymore. He grabbed Liang Cheng, “Did falling from the second floor mess up your head? Go upstairs and check for any serious injuries; you’re limping.”
Turning to Qin Mo, Zhou Shu added, “Even though we’re all familiar with each other, we still owe you thanks.”
With that, Zhou Shu tried to drag Liang Cheng away.
Liang Cheng looked at Lu Tang, “Little Tang, I didn’t expect you to do so much for me. I…”
Guo Dawei interrupted him, “Little Tang would do the same for any of us. Stop whining like a woman. I think you hit your head.”
Xu Shen glanced at Qin Mo and Lu Tang, “Get him upstairs and find a doctor to check on him.”
With their interruptions, Liang Cheng couldn’t say more.
As they headed upstairs, Qin Mo brought a hand from behind his back, holding an oil paper package. “I wasn’t at the inn earlier because I went to buy you this.”
Lu Tang lowered her head, smelling the aroma coming from the package.
“I didn’t mean to shout at you earlier. I was just… too scared.”
Qin Mo ruffled her hair, harder than usual, “It’s okay to shout.”
When he returned and saw the scene, it had almost scared him to death.
After years of battlefield experience, he had never felt fear. But seeing those men swinging their rods at Lu Tang, he almost lost his breath. He didn’t even know what scared him so much, but his hands were still trembling.
Just then, Song Qingzhan walked in, “What’s going on here?”
Qin Mo’s words overlapped with Song Qingzhan’s, so Lu Tang didn’t catch what Qin Mo said. She saw Song Qingzhan holding two clay pots in nets.
“What’s that?” Lu Tang asked curiously.
Song Qingzhan widened his eyes at Lu Tang, “Young Master Lu, what happened to you?”
He turned to Qin Mo, “Did you hit him?”
Qin Mo snapped, “Do I look like I’m sick?”
Lu Tang scratched her head in embarrassment and briefly explained what happened, omitting Liang Cheng’s impulsiveness.
They were brothers, and she didn’t want Liang Cheng to look bad in front of others.
“So, you hurt yourself rushing down the stairs?” Qin Mo’s voice was chilly.
Lu Tang lowered her head, “Yes.”
Qin Mo snorted, “Let’s eat.”
Song Qingzhan’s clay pots contained fish porridge and fish ball noodles, both bought by Qin Mo for Lu Tang.
As the clay pots were placed on the table and their lids lifted, the aroma filled the room.
“We figured you might not want to go out to eat after a few days on the road, so we brought some back for you. And you almost got yourself killed!”
Qin Mo handed Lu Tang chopsticks, glancing at her injured mouth, then put the oil paper package aside, “Don’t eat this. It’s spicy chicken chunks.”
Lu Tang nodded eagerly, salivating.
Song Qingzhan glared at Qin Mo.
“By the way, you said? Nonsense! The inn’s food isn’t tasty enough? I had to go to one end of the street for porridge and noodles, then to the other end for the chicken! Such a long way!”
The fish porridge was probably the best Lu Tang had ever tasted. Smiling, she thanked Song Qingzhan and Qin Mo, “Thank you, Brother Zhan and Big Brother. I was starving.”
Qin Mo scoffed, “Just eat!”
Lu Tang stuck out her tongue and turned to Song Qingzhan, “Why is Boss Dou so afraid of him?”
Qin Mo wanted to crack open Lu Tang’s head to see if she was really that dense. Why did she always ask Song Qingzhan?
Song Qingzhan glanced at Qin Mo, “A few years ago, he did some work here. Boss Dou messed with him and got severely punished.”
Lu Tang looked wide-eyed at Qin Mo. Qin Mo glared, “What are you staring at?”
Lu Tang turned back to Song Qingzhan, “So, Boss Dou isn’t even afraid of officials?”
Song Qingzhan laughed, “When he was here, it was like our trip to Qingshui County. He used a false name, and Boss Dou didn’t know his identity.”
Lu Tang recalled Boss Dou calling Qin Mo “Young Master Mo” instead of “Official Qin.”
So Boss Dou still didn’t know Qin Mo’s true identity.
No wonder he was so scared—he must have been punished badly!
Lu Tang remembered Qin Mo beheading Er Ya at the bandit camp and shivered.
Definitely a fierce one.
After that, they chatted for a while. When Lu Tang finished eating, Qin Mo asked Song Qingzhan for a bottle of ointment for Lu Tang’s face injuries. “Any other injuries?”
Lu Tang quickly said, “No, no, just these. It’s nothing.”
Qin Mo glared at her, “Nothing? If it scars, who will cry then?”
Song Qingzhan thought: Something feels off here.
Lu Tang: …
She smiled sheepishly, then turned to Song Qingzhan, “Brother Zhan, can you check on Liang Cheng? He’s more hurt.”
Before Lu Tang could finish, Qin Mo grabbed the ointment bottle and left, “You don’t worry about yourself but have time to worry about others.”
Lu Tang stared after him, confused.
Why did he suddenly get angry?
“Don’t take the ointment; I still need it,” Lu Tang hurried after him.
“This ointment is precious. What if you drop it?” Qin Mo said, kicking the door shut behind him.
Song Qingzhan rolled his eyes at Qin Mo’s back. An ordinary ointment, precious?
He turned to reassure Lu Tang, “You rest. Tomorrow will be busy. I’ll check on Liang Cheng later. He should be fine.”
