Does This Love Suit Your Taste? - Volume 1 Chapter 5.3
Date 3
First, I was taken to a movie theater.
It seemed the decision was made for the very unromantic reason that at least two hours would pass even if we just sat silently.
“Well… I’m fine with anything. Is there something you want to watch?”
In front of the posters on the wall, Shirahime asked in a disinterested tone.
“Hmm… maybe this one. This anime movie has been popular recently. I was planning to watch it alone anyway, so it’s a good opportunity now——”
“Ah, I’m not interested in anime.”
“So it’s not ‘anything’s fine’ huh…”
I sighed in exasperation and reluctantly handed over the decision to my ‘master’.
“Then what do you want to watch?”
“If it’s me, this one.”
Shirahime pointed a gruesome horror movie quickly.
“Oh, you’re serious… I see. You like this kind of stuff… Not cute at all…”
“What, you can’t handle scary stuff? With that look of yours?”
“No, not really… Just doesn’t seem to be my taste… Hey, what does my look have to do with it.”
“All my friends can’t stand this kind of thing, so I can’t go watch it. You know, going to the movies alone just isn’t a thing.”
“Ahaha, sorry for always going to the movies alone. Fine then, idiot, I’ll watch it with you so you don’t get scared.”
Despite all the consideration I’m showing, her lack of delicacy towards me is just unbelievable.
Just before the movie started, we decided to buy popcorn and drinks at the concession stand. At the counter, the clerk asked, ‘What would you like to order?’
“For popcorn, just a small one for the two of us to share. I think we won’t be able to finish the big one. And I’ll have an iced tea. With milk, please.”
“Okay, so that’s a milk iced tea, a cola, and caramel-flavored popcorn?”
“Ah, please make the popcorn salted butter instead.”
“What? Who said you could just decide that on your own? I want something sweet. I let you choose the movie, so at least let me choose the popcorn flavor! I absolutely want carame—Ahh!”
The moment I tried to push through with my choice, Shirahime stepped hard on my toes.
“Ow, ow, ow! Salted, please! Think of it as helping a person in need and hurry up! Or better yet, just sprinkle some salt on this girl…”
“Yes, yes… I’ll prepare it right away…”
As we entered the theater quickly, I could feel the pitying gaze of the clerk who had prepared the salted butter popcorn for us on my back.
◇
“…Scaredy-cat”
“Shut up.”
After the movie ended, I walked out of the theater quickly, trying to shake off Shirahime who was making fun of me.
I was so scared that I covered my face with my hands, so all I saw was my own palm lines.
By the way, Shirahime seemed unfazed and actually seemed to find my fear amusing.
At one point, she said, ‘Look, it’s a scary scene now.’, and tried to forcibly pull my hands away from my face. Her sadistic nature was more horrifying than the horror movie itself.
“What should we do next? Oh, how about we go look at clothes?”
Shirahime suggested. I was already mentally and physically exhausted, so with a clearly annoyed expression, I said,
“I don’t really need to buy anything…”
“…Then how about food? Come to think of it, we’ve only had popcorn.”
“We can just eat at home. The food I make is way better.”
“You know what? This is a date. Get it?”
“What kind of date is this with you being such a DV sadist—nnfhh…” (TN: domestic violence.)
“It’s a date, right?♡”
“Yes… it is…”
After I, who couldn’t stand up to the violence, apologized, Shirahime decided our next destination would be food, and we crossed the communication bridge to move to the dining area.
The commercial facility looked like a small village of colorful buildings with varying heights, three stories tall, containing not only restaurants but also a variety of stores, amusement facilities, and more, all within an alley-like area.
“Is there anything specific you want to eat?”
“Hmm? Then… how about that Chinese place over there?”
“Ah, I don’t like Chinese food.”
“How about that steak place then?”
“Seems they serve large portions. I don’t like big meals.”
Wow, this person has too many dislikes and preferences.
Wow, she has too many dislikes and preferences. Soon she’ll be like a final boss before world domination, saying, “You know, I hate this world right now.”
“Do whatever you want…”
“What’s with that attitude… Rude. Then let’s go here.”
After I sighed, Shirahime took the lead and entered,
“A cafe… Isn’t it supposed to be lunch…”
“You said anything was fine.”
Ignoring my complaint, Shirahime reached for the menu.
“Well then, I’ll have the anmitsu parfait. This place is famous for its parfaits.”
“Sigh. Then I’ll go with this strawberry parfait.”
“Ah, that’s a good choice too. Makes me want to eat both. I know! Give me half of your strawberry one. I’ll give you half of my anmitsu in return.”
“Huh? I don’t like red bean paste…”
“Really? Even though it’s sweet? And what about being a chef who’s picky about food?”
“I just don’t like red bean paste. That heavy taste and the way it sticks to your mouth… I can’t stand it. Can’t help having preferences, I’m human after all.”
“So it’s not like you like anything as long as it’s sweet… I see. Then I’ll eat all of the anmitsu parfait myself, and you give me half of your strawberry parfait.”
” …. “
That just ends up with her taking half of my parfait.
What’s with her acting like she’s offering a thoughtful alternative?
What’s solved with that?
Despite entering the cafe under the pretense of lunch, all I ended up eating was half a parfait. And from that half, Shirahime took the top part, leaving me with mostly whipped cream and cornflakes.
She said she wasn’t much of an eater.
Don’t be so greedy.
