- Chapter 17 - Su Yu vs. Mu Changwei, SSS-Rank Talent: Immortality!
Su Yu glanced sideways. “What’s the matter? Did I say something wrong?”
Mu Changwei sneered. “Hmph, I’ve seen plenty of arrogant rookies like you. They strut around confidently, but the moment they step into the demonic lair, their legs turn to jelly, and they die inside. What gives you the right to run your mouth here?”
Su Yu smirked, clearly at ease. “Because Alia, who’s been by my side, has never once mentioned you. That alone proves you’re nothing more than an insignificant figure in her eyes. And judging by your words earlier, it’s obvious. I imagine that back when Alia hadn’t had her rank reduced, you wouldn’t have dared speak this way in her presence, would you?”
The jab hit a nerve. Mu Changwei’s lips twitched as a flicker of pain flashed across his face, as if Su Yu’s words had dredged up a bitter memory.
The tension between them thickened. Liu Xuan whispered, “Uncle Bai, is he really one of the Seven Blood Spirits from the Blood Spirit Squad?”
Bai Ruhui nodded lightly. “Yes, the Blood Spirit Squad is a team composed entirely of S-rank students. Each of the other six members is a genius forged through countless battles with the little vampire. But none of them ever earned her favor.”
“In fact, even getting close to her was nearly impossible.”
Alia had always been emotionally distant and cold toward others, including the Blood Spirit Squad, with no trace of affection for them.
The only person she treated differently was Su Yu.
However, her radiant beauty and extraordinary talent meant that her pursuers, despite knowing they had no chance, continued to chase her like moths to a flame.
Initially, no one had any hope, so everyone found consolation in mutual failure.
But then Su Yu appeared out of nowhere and shattered that balance.
Upon hearing in the lair that Alia had become Su Yu’s pet beast, Mu Changwei’s anger had boiled over, prompting his return—and leading to the tense confrontation now unfolding.
Liu Xuan tugged on Bai Ruhui’s arm. “Uncle Bai, this is just bullying! Su Yu just enrolled—how can he compete with someone like Mu Changwei, who’s been training for a year? The difference in their ranks will severely weaken his pet beast’s abilities. Please stop them!”
Bai Ruhui raised his hand to signal for silence, stopping Liu Xuan from speaking further.
“Let’s see what a God-Tier Sequence Beastmaster is capable of.”
Mu Changwei snorted. “Su Yu, leave Alia. If you’re a real man, stop hiding behind a woman! The captain is out of your league.”
Instead of getting angry, Su Yu wrapped an arm around Alia and said, “Who are you to dictate anything here?”
Veins bulged on Mu Changwei’s forehead, and the sound of his heart breaking seemed almost audible.
The once aloof and untouchable captain he adored now nestled gently in Su Yu’s arms, letting him hold her without resistance…
Fuming, Mu Changwei growled, “Fine, fine. Kid, let’s settle this with a fight. If you win, the Screeching Wyvern wings I just cut off are yours. If I win, you’ll leave Alia and admit that weaklings like you aren’t welcome here.”
Before Su Yu could respond, Alia smirked playfully. “Are you serious? I’m not trying to discourage you, but even with your higher rank and two pet beasts, you’re bound to lose to my little one.”
“You’re simply not good enough compared to him.”
Her words struck deeper than Su Yu’s mockery ever could. Alia’s statement stomped all over Mu Changwei’s pride and dignity.
Grinding his teeth, Mu Changwei hissed, “Impossible! Captain, I’ll prove to you that he’s the one unworthy of you!”
“Do you dare face me, Su Yu? Don’t worry, I won’t use demonic lair weaponry. With the captain assisting you, it’s not exactly unfair.”
Su Yu nodded calmly.
“Alright. But if I win, there’s one more condition—you’re never to appear in front of Alia again.”
“Agreed.”
Liu Xuan grew anxious. How could a newcomer like Su Yu compete with an upperclassman with a full year of training?
The rank disparity alone would heavily suppress the effects of Su Yu’s pet beast’s abilities.
She turned to Bai Ruhui for help, but he simply waved her off and said, “Let them fight. Don’t worry about collateral damage—this old man has it covered.”
With a casual gesture, Bai Ruhui conjured a faint blue barrier that spread across the surrounding buildings. It looked delicate but was, in fact, indestructible.
Neither Su Yu nor Mu Changwei paid any attention to the spectators or their words.
As they created distance between each other, Alia quietly warned Su Yu, “Be careful. His talent is S-rank Innate Divine Strength. It enables him and his pet beasts to unleash triple their normal power. He’s a pure strength-based Beastmaster.”
Mu Changwei summoned his two pet beasts: a black-maned, one-eyed giant ape and a towering vine that reached into the sky.
A combination of a beast and a magic plant?
The two locked eyes briefly before Mu Changwei waved his hand. The vine wove itself into an intricate network in the air, allowing the giant ape to swing across it. From the sky, the ape launched itself directly at Su Yu!
“Giant Ape · Vajra Ground Breaker!”
The ape’s massive arms glowed with golden light, and its descent was as forceful as a small meteor.
Mu Changwei’s combat strategy was highly refined. He used the magic plant to enhance mobility and his talent to amplify the ape’s raw power, resulting in devastating attacks.
Behind Su Yu, Alia’s blood-and-bone harp began to play a haunting melody.
Death Apostle’s Hymn!
Mu Changwei sneered. “It’s useless, Captain! Your Death Apostle’s Hymn can’t dominate beings with higher ranks than yours—it can only influence them.”
This was the source of his confidence.
The suppression caused by rank disparity weakened abilities that might otherwise dominate lower-ranked beings.
If that weren’t the case, he would never have dared to challenge Alia. Before her rank had fallen, she could have effortlessly crushed him with Death Apostle’s Hymn and Blood Queen.
The undead melody caused the giant ape to hesitate briefly but failed to turn it into a servant.
As the ape’s earth-shattering strike neared, Alia conjured hundreds of blood-red spears, launching them skyward!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The spears shattered against the ape’s colossal, gold-imbued arms as its overwhelming power rendered them ineffective.
Rank—an undeniable advantage.
Meanwhile, the magic plant’s vines crept toward Su Yu, ensuring he couldn’t escape the giant ape’s devastating attack range!
Exchanging a glance with Alia, Su Yu saw an uncharacteristic flash of anger in her deep purple eyes.
She would never forgive anyone who dared to threaten Su Yu’s life in her presence.
As the ape descended with crushing force, Alia fearlessly met it head-on!
“Alia!”
Both Su Yu and Mu Changwei shouted simultaneously.
The ape’s power was enough to obliterate anything in its path. Alia wasn’t a strength-based pet beast—why would she…
Boom!
A burst of blood mist filled the air as a massive crater, ten meters deep, was smashed into the ground. Alia, having taken the ape’s full blow, had her right arm completely shattered, the bone exposed through her flesh. Yet, in the next instant, radiant scarlet light restored her to perfect condition!
SSS-rank talent: Immortality!
As the progenitor of the blood race, Alia’s immortality granted the “Immortal” trait to everything she controlled.
The shattered blood-spears from earlier were also imbued with the “Immortal” trait, and they now surged back toward the giant ape from all directions!
Mu Changwei’s pupils shrank. “This is bad!”
The vines extended rapidly, trying to shield the ape.
Without hesitation, Su Yu sliced open his palm, letting his blood flow toward Alia.
Alia dispersed the blood into the spears, which then pierced the ape!
“Roar!” Though the vines blocked most of the spears, over ten of them struck home, causing the giant ape to wail in agony.
Even with its immense strength, the ape couldn’t break a single spear, which radiated a power that transcended rank suppression.
SSS-rank talents, defined as eternal-level powers, were exclusive to God-Tier Sequences.
Mu Changwei stared at Alia in disbelief.
What kind of ability was this?
Beyond her Blood Queen and Death Apostle’s Hymn, Alia had unleashed a third, completely overwhelming power.
In his brief moment of shock,
Su Yu stepped in front of Alia and smiled. “I’m afraid the match is over.”
Mu Changwei snapped back to his senses and sneered coldly. “Hmph, hiding behind Alia like a coward. How can you claim it’s over?”
Su Yu chuckled, raised his hand, and said, “Because your pet beasts are no longer yours.”
“The King’s command cannot be disobeyed.”
He snapped his fingers. “Beasts, slaughter him for me!”
Mu Changwei, who had been ready to scoff, suddenly froze as he realized his spiritual connection to the giant ape and the magic vine had been severed.
