- Chapter 48 - From Punishment to Power Struggle? A War of Words with Neither Side Backing Down
Jiang Huairen asked with concern, “Huanyuan, are you hurt?”
After all the words he wanted to say, he could only start with this resigned question.
Kong Huanyuan’s eyes were lifeless, and it wasn’t until her name was called that she finally reacted and shook her head lightly.
Though no one knew exactly what had transpired within the domain, it was clear to anyone paying attention that an intense battle had raged inside.
According to Lin Li’s report from the simulation field, Kong Huanyuan had drained all the magic from the entire snowy mountain, and yet she still failed to defeat Su Yu. That alone indicated the intensity of the fight was likely on par with battles between mid-tier Beastmasters of the Transcendence Realm.
Jiang Huairen turned his gaze to Su Yu. “Explain yourself, young man.”
“What exactly happened?”
“And don’t even think of trying to hide anything—our minds are far from muddled.”
“There are no outsiders here. You can speak freely; nothing will leave this hall.”
There was no avoiding it.
Su Yu, however, wasn’t one to shy away from confrontation.
After all, the people gathered here were some of the sharpest minds in Great Xia, and they’d likely already pieced together much of the truth—including Alia’s identity as a God-Tier Sequence.
What reassured Su Yu most was Ning Hanwen’s calm demeanor. If even his own principal appeared unfazed, surely things wouldn’t turn out too badly, right?
Su Yu decided to be forthright. “Distinguished elders, I believe you already have a sense of what transpired.”
“Alia is the Progenitor of Vampires, God-Tier Sequence no. 007. God-Tier Sequences share a unique resonance, so from the very beginning, both this Kong Huanyuan and I were aware of each other’s identities.”
“As it happens, we entered this competition with the same goal in mind, but Alia and I emerged victorious.”
Su Yu’s words caused the gathered officials to nod slowly. It aligned closely with their own deductions.
Jiang Huairen turned to Kong Huanyuan. “Huanyuan, is what he said true?”
Kong Huanyuan lowered her head. “Yes, Principal. I did intend to take his vampire for myself, but… I lost.”
Jiang Huairen nearly choked on his breath.
You fool, Huanyuan!
I know you want to grow stronger and cross the Forbidden Sea to reach the forbidden zones, but you’re far too impatient!
If this had been solely Su Yu’s attempt to seize your power, I would’ve had every right to take action! But now, as the loser, what am I supposed to do? Kill him?
Don’t be ridiculous. He’s still a citizen of Great Xia, and Ning Hanwen would never sit idly by and let it happen.
Cough, cough, cough! Jiang Huairen coughed violently several times.
Ning Hanwen quickly activated his magic to soothe him. “Old Jiang, calm down. At your age, you should practice serenity.”
Jiang Huairen shot him a glare. If they hadn’t been in front of the younger generation, he might’ve slapped him on the spot.
Of course Ning Hanwen could afford to act smug—after all, Magic City University was the one benefiting from this disaster!
Jiang Huairen snarled, “I don’t care about the rest. Kid, I want you to undo the contract with Huanyuan!”
“She belongs to us, Imperial Capital!”
Ning Hanwen’s expression hardened. “That’s unreasonable, Jiang. Commander Liu, Governor Xia, you both know as well as I do—God-Tier Sequence contracts cannot be undone!”
Even Kong Huanyuan’s plan had relied on using illusions to forcibly control Su Yu in order to indirectly command Alia.
Jiang Huairen’s fury boiled over. “What’s that supposed to mean, old man? Are you saying we should just let this go?”
“Huanyuan is as much a part of Great Xia as he is! What you’ve done is outright theft! Even as a Beastmaster, you’re still bound by Great Xia’s laws!”
Commander Liu Shengyuan interjected. “Alright, that’s enough, Old Jiang. Calm yourself.”
“Even if you want the contract undone, it’s not something he can do.”
Jiang Huairen sneered. “Of course you’d side with him. Your daughter’s on his team, isn’t she?”
Liu Shengyuan let out an awkward chuckle. Well, he wasn’t wrong.
Governor Xia Tingen remained indifferent. Regardless of the outcome, Su Yu had essentially fulfilled the claims he made when he joined the Dragonhawk Guard: proving himself capable of defeating Kong Huanyuan and securing the freshman championship.
Xia Tingen said, “Enough about that. What I’m curious about is, Su Yu, what exactly is your talent?”
“God-Tier Sequences cannot be contracted against their will. Clearly, Student Kong didn’t voluntarily become your pet beast, did she?”
This hit the crux of the matter.
Commander Liu, the other governors, the two principals, and several Star-Badged Mentors all looked toward Su Yu.
Even now, they couldn’t fully decipher Su Yu’s talent.
Having unlocked the new S-rank talent Peculiar Replica after contracting Kong Huanyuan, Su Yu decided he could reveal a portion of his older talent.
Taking a deep breath, Su Yu said, “Crown of Blood. Anyone who drinks a small amount of my blood can be temporarily controlled, while those who drink a large quantity can be forcibly contracted.”
He deliberately chose not to mention the “ancestral awakening” effect or Lethal Allure.
The room fell silent, the officials exchanging meaningful glances.
No wonder.
No wonder.
Su Yu hadn’t revealed everything, but what he had said was enough to quell their doubts.
What Su Yu didn’t realize was that these high-ranking officials were not just vying for individual or institutional interests—they were also safeguarding Great Xia’s overall security. Verifying that Su Yu wasn’t some foreign entity or part of an adversary’s scheme was crucial.
Xia Tingen nodded approvingly. “Very well. Thank you for your honesty. As I said before, the doors of the Dragonhawk Guard are always open to you.”
Jiang Huairen snapped, “Don’t change the subject!”
“The key issue is, what’s to be done about this situation?”
The officials exchanged glances.
The deed was done. What else could they do?
Commander Liu Shengyuan suggested, “Ning, why don’t you compensate Old Jiang with five doses of S-Rank Talent Serum? We can count it as being on Su Yu’s tab. How about that?”
Jiang Huairen sneered. “Five doses? Commander Liu, would you trade your daughter for fifty doses?”
Liu Shengyuan shut his mouth. Pretend I didn’t say anything.
The military needed to witness the ownership of a God-Tier Sequence firsthand. This was a matter of national importance. For their purposes, having Su Yu join the Nine Divisions was a win no matter what. Their primary goal was to prevent Jiang Huairen from losing his temper and doing something drastic.
Governor Wuma Ming, who oversaw the Demon Suppression Division in the capital, asked, “Alright, Old Jiang, what do you propose, then?”
Unlike the other military representatives, Wuma Ming wasn’t willing to let this slide. Kong Huanyuan’s departure was a significant loss for the Demon Suppression Division.
Of course, this couldn’t end so easily!
Jiang Huairen sighed deeply. “Fine. I’ll take a step back.”
“Here’s my proposal: transfer Su Yu to Imperial Capital University. That way, we can put this matter to rest.”
“That way, even if Huanyuan doesn’t want to obey him, I can keep an eye on things. It’s a win-win solution. Otherwise, I won’t let you take Huanyuan away, no matter what!”
The room fell silent, stunned.
What the hell? Did this old fox really just say that out loud?
Lin Li froze, too. Wasn’t he just saying he’d stand up for Kong Huanyuan? What kind of “standing up” is this? He didn’t even dare look at her now!
Ning Hanwen’s usually calm face turned beet red. “What? What nonsense are you spouting?”
“Jiang Huairen, I’m telling you—forget it!”
“Oh? So, Ning, are you planning to test whether my sword is still sharp?”
“And I’ll see if mine isn’t just as sharp!”
Su Yu stood dumbfounded. What’s happening right now?!
