- Chapter 10 - Showing Who's Boss
Zhang Leyan rushed down from the fourth floor and hugged her, looking her over anxiously. “Are you okay? Why didn’t you go back last night?”
“I can’t really explain right now. Let’s go upstairs first.” Her shout had attracted the attention of nearly everyone in the teaching building, making Luo Jingcha wish she could deny knowing her.
Their class was an arts program composed of dozens of trainees, located on the fourth floor at the westernmost end of the first teaching building. As the two walked toward the classroom, a voice suddenly reached her ears.
“Chen Yao, remember to give this pen to Luo Jingcha when she comes in. She dared to mess with us yesterday and got us scolded by Yijun. Today I’ll make her life miserable!”
Luo Jingcha was slightly confused and hesitated in her steps.
“What’s wrong?” Zhang Leyan asked when she suddenly stopped.
“Nothing.”
Luo Jingcha shook her head and continued walking, unconsciously touching her ears. Only after entering the classroom did she understand that the voice she had heard wasn’t an auditory hallucination, but rather—
Her hearing seemed to have improved.
Just as she entered the classroom, the girl who had pushed her into the cake yesterday walked over, holding a black pen in her hand.
Luo Jingcha remembered this girl was called Chen Yao.
Chen Yao apologetically said, “I didn’t mean to push you into the cake yesterday. I hope you don’t mind. Would you accept this pen as an apology?”
Before Luo Jingcha could respond, Zhang Leyan scoffed, “Since when are you this nice?”
Chen Yao glared at her. “I’m apologizing to her, not you. Mind your own business!”
Zhang Leyan, being naturally timid, was intimidated by Chen Yao’s glare and fell silent. Luo Jingcha smiled and accepted the pen, saying, “Thank you. We’re all classmates, I didn’t take it personally.”
Chen Yao said, “That’s good. Why don’t you open the pen and see if you like it?”
Luo Jingcha looked at her, then at the pen, turning it in her hand. As she was about to remove the cap under Chen Yao’s expectant gaze, she suddenly paused.
“What’s wrong? Go ahead and open it,” Chen Yao urged impatiently when she hesitated.
Hearing this, Luo Jingcha gave a slight laugh. She twirled the pen between her slender fingers, then pointed the pen tip toward Chen Yao. With her thumb against the end of the cap, she flicked it forcefully, sending the cap flying off.
What followed the cap was a gush of ink.
“Ahhhh! Stop it! Stop it!”
Chen Yao was sprayed with ink, her face and clothes covered in filth. She tried to dodge the pen in Luo Jingcha’s hand, but Luo Jingcha deliberately directed the ink flow all over her, upholding the traditional virtue of not wasting resources.
When the ink was finally exhausted, Luo Jingcha tossed the pen aside and looked at the girl leaning against the classroom window. “I grew tired of these kinds of tricks when I was three years old. If you want to deal with me, do it straightforwardly. Don’t bother with these ridiculous pranks—it’s just disgusting.”
After speaking, Luo Jingcha returned directly to her seat. No one dared to stop her along the way, and the looks she received were filled with confusion and surprise.
This Luo Jingcha—how had she changed so much after returning from the hospital? She seemed like a completely different person, speaking and acting so boldly.
Thanks to Luo Jingcha’s power move, no one dared to provoke her during that class break, allowing her to peacefully get through an English lesson. As soon as class ended, Zhang Leyan flew over to her, “Chacha, you were so cool just now!”
“It was nothing,” Luo Jingcha replied absent-mindedly. She was busy calculating the possibility of creating an artificial wormhole.
If her crossing over was because she happened to encounter a spatial rift, it meant that if she could create a wormhole, she might have a chance to return.
But artificial wormholes were still an unrealized hypothesis in her world. She wondered if the spatial rift might have originated from this world, since from what she could tell, this world seemed more advanced in scientific achievements than her own.
“What are you scribbling? Stop that for a bit and listen to this song.” Without waiting for Luo Jingcha’s consent, Zhang Leyan stuffed earphones into her ears.
Luo Jingcha had just reached a critical step in her thinking, but thankfully she could multitask. Anyone else would have broken Zhang Leyan’s legs for such an interruption.
After listening for a while, Luo Jingcha said, “Not bad.”
Zhang Leyan proudly replied, “What do you mean ‘not bad’? It’s amazing! This is the new song from my idol boy band SOS!”
The entertainment industry in this world was quite developed, especially the idol industry. The national acceptance was high, with boy and girl groups emerging one after another.
The boy band Zhang Leyan mentioned had debuted last year from the show “I Dream! I Break Through!” Due to the show’s explosive popularity, SOS had become one of the most successful boy bands recently.
Xiao Luo wanted to participate in the second season of this show, which would focus on girl groups. If she could debut through this program, it would establish her foothold in the entertainment industry. That was what XiaoLuo had been aiming for.
“My brother He Mingyu is so handsome. If I could meet him just once, I could die without regrets!” Zhang Leyan was swooning over her phone again.
“If I could contact this world’s top physicists, I might learn more about artificial wormholes,” Luo Jingcha muttered.
Zhang Leyan didn’t seem to hear clearly and asked, “What did you say?”
“Oh, nothing,” Luo Jingcha replied distractedly. “Isn’t He Mingyu a Longyao artist? If you work hard enough to sign with Longyao, you could die without regrets.”
Zhang Leyan clicked her tongue. “Longyao Shengshi is the top star-making factory in the country. It’s not something I can just enter whenever I want.”
The entertainment industry was flourishing domestically, with Longyao Shengshi and Xingyu Media known as the two top star-making factories in the industry. Artists who came from these companies were all extremely popular, and countless aspiring artists were desperate to sign with these two companies.
Feng Yijun was an artist under Xingyu, and she already had a small fan base even before her debut.
Zhang Leyan slumped on the desk, scrolling through her phone when suddenly she jolted up as if shocked.
“What the hell? No way!”
Luo Jingcha was startled, her train of thought finally broken.
“Zhang Leyan, you’d better give me a reasonable explanation, or else…” The pen in her hand snapped into two pieces.
“Uh…”
Zhang Leyan glanced at the broken pen in her hand and sheepishly sat down, placing her phone in front of Luo Jingcha. “Look at the trending news. The only son of Mo Group’s chairman, Mo Wangchu, returned to the country yesterday and attended a group meeting today as CEO. He’s reorganizing the board of directors with iron-handed methods. Mo Group is facing a major reshuffle in senior management!”
Luo Jingcha glanced at it. Mo Group? Mo Wangchu?
Zhang Leyan said indignantly, “Mo Group is a long-established enterprise with hundreds of years of history. Every executive there has deep connections. Has this returning young master gone crazy studying abroad for a few years? How can the group continue to operate if he offends all these people?”
“Longyao Shengshi is still a subsidiary of Mo Group. My idol brother is developing so well at Longyao—I hope these issues won’t affect his career.”
Zhang Leyan looked woeful, as if already imagining her brother’s tragic future.
Luo Jingcha tapped her head. “You should worry about yourself first. We’re going to be late for class.”
“Right! This period is PE!” Zhang Leyan looked around and realized the classroom was already empty, finally recognizing the seriousness of the situation. She quickly got up and pulled Luo Jingcha along as they ran.
Five minutes later.
“That glasses girl is such a psycho. We were just a little late. Did she really need to punish us beautiful girls by making us run laps around the field?” Zhang Leyan complained as she ran.
“I accept the ‘beautiful girl’ part, but the one being punished to run is you, not me,” Luo Jingcha said as she walked beside the turtle-paced Zhang Leyan.
Zhang Leyan pouted. “Why is that fair?”
“If you get seriously injured and hospitalized, you can enjoy this kind of privilege too. Want to try?” Luo Jingcha teased.
Zhang Leyan scoffed. “I, Zhang Leyan, am well-known. Who would dare to hit me—”
“Watch out! Get out of the way!”
Before she could finish, a sudden shout came. Without time to react, a soccer ball suddenly smashed into Zhang Leyan’s face with a loud bang.
