Girl, There's Something Wrong With You - Chapter 2
Cheng Jinyang was drunk.
Li Qingwan carried both of them back home, covered her father with a blanket, and then came back to support Cheng Jinyang to another room.
“I… I need to go back,” Cheng Jinyang struggled to get up, stumbling. “I still need to level up tonight…”
“Alright, alright, we’ll go back,” Li Qingwan couldn’t argue with him, so she could only support him as they walked out of the family grounds.
“Qingwan,” Cheng Jinyang chuckled softly, “Why is your skin so cold?”
“My body temperature and heart rate are slightly lower than normal,” Li Qingwan said softly, “Mainly because the blood vessels on my skin are denser, making heat dissipation more efficient.”
“Huh?”
“Didn’t get it?” Li Qingwan laughed, “The theory behind physical activation. It’s normal if you haven’t heard of it.”
Once they were outside the Longxi Li family grounds, Li Qingwan called a taxi and helped Cheng Jinyang into it.
Then she got in as well. After all, she could see her father anytime, but missing a night of leveling up was a significant loss.
As someone who had struggled to increase her bloodline concentration, Li Qingwan naturally wouldn’t miss any opportunity.
“Miss, is your boyfriend alright?” The driver, a thin old man with glasses, asked worriedly, “He better not throw up in my car. I just had it cleaned last month.”
“He won’t,” Li Qingwan reassured, showing her Longxi Li family ID card, “I’m from the Li family. If he does throw up, I’ll pay for the cleaning.”
The driver immediately felt at ease. Running rides in Jiangning District, he naturally had heard of the Longxi Li family. The topic of the Five Great Families Noble Women was particularly popular among the drivers, though the specifics need not be mentioned.
The taxi headed towards the Cheng family grounds. Cheng Jinyang, lying on Li Qingwan’s lap, felt his stomach churning, bloated and uncomfortable.
Li Qingwan gently patted his back to make him a bit more comfortable, her gaze fixed out the window.
Back near the family grounds, as Li Qingwan was helping Cheng Jinyang out of the car, Cui Jinqi, who had been waiting at the door, rushed over.
“I couldn’t find you in the family grounds today… Why did you drink so much? Where did you go?” She asked, slightly displeased.
“Sorry, Jinqi,” Li Qingwan apologized, “He went drinking with my dad.”
“Your dad?” Cui Xiaoniang was immediately puzzled, “Why did he see your dad?”
“Just to discuss my bloodline advancement,” Li Qingwan answered.
Cui Jinqi breathed a sigh of relief at the explanation.
That made sense. Qingwan’s dad was just an ordinary member of the Longxi Li family, so there wasn’t much conflict of interest, and he could be told about his daughter’s advancement.
On the other hand, she and Miss Wang had fathers who were either elders or clan leaders, so they had to keep such information tightly under wraps.
But was it really that simple?
Cui Xiaoniang, supporting Cheng Jinyang from the other side, observed Li Qingwan’s expression out of the corner of her eye and probed, “But you didn’t have to drink that much, did you? Jinyang is indeed a key contributor, but your dad’s a bit over the top.”
“Just a little bit (five bottles of baijiu),” Cheng Jinyang defended.
“Yes,” Li Qingwan felt a bit guilty.
Cui Jinqi’s suspicion deepened.
Could it be that Uncle Li discovered Jinyang’s secret and is trying to marry Qingwan to him, facilitating her long-term advancement?!
The thought made her heart skip a beat.
She was well aware of Li Qingwan’s obsession with advancement. Since they had known each other, Teacher Li had never missed a single morning session at the martial arts hall, training her abilities diligently, come rain or shine.
It was said that one summer, a typhoon hit Jiankang City, bringing torrential rain. Li Qingwan still went out to do her morning session and almost got swept into the Yangtze River by the storm.
Only someone with the physical activation ability could risk their life like that.
Upon closer consideration, what if Li Qingwan, in order to secure her future, has developed some special feelings for my Jinyang? Even worse, since she is just an ordinary clan member and might not be bound by the marriage rules of the Five Great Families, she could freely choose her ideal husband.
To exaggerate further, could it be that this time, Qingwan deliberately lured Jinyang to meet her parents, and then conspired with her father to get him drunk and trick him into putting his fingerprint on a completed marriage application?
Cui Xiaoniang’s thoughts ran wild, becoming more exaggerated and fearful, leading her to look at Li Qingwan with growing suspicion.
Li Qingwan: ?
Noticing her friend’s odd gaze, Li Qingwan wondered if Cui Xiaoniang was having the same misunderstanding as her father.
But since Cui Xiaoniang didn’t bring it up, Li Qingwan couldn’t defend herself (otherwise, it would seem like she had a guilty conscience), so she silently continued to support Jinyang as they walked back.
“Um, Qingwan…” Cui Jinqi finally couldn’t hold back and spoke up.
“What’s the matter?” Li Qingwan quickly asked.
“Nothing.” Cui Jinqi lowered her head.
Li Qingwan sighed inwardly.
“Eh?” Just as the two were preoccupied with their own thoughts, Miss Qingqing’s voice sounded ahead, “You… Jinyang is back? What happened to him?”
“I just drank a bit,” Cheng Jinyang mumbled, lifting his head.
“Oh, so you drank without inviting me?!” Chu Qingqing ran over, pretending to be upset, and questioned him, “Were you drinking at a brothel?”
“No!” Cheng Jinyang said indignantly, “I was drinking with Li Qingwan’s dad.”
“Oh.” Miss Qingqing glanced at Li Qingwan with a scrutinizing and suspicious look, almost identical to the one Cui Jinqi had earlier.
Being sensitive, the two quickly realized that Chu Qingqing had the same suspicion as Cui Xiaoniang.
Cui Jinqi inwardly cried out, “Oh no, Qingqing, you’re also a rival in love?! My competitors keep increasing!”
Li Qingwan gave a wry smile, feeling helpless. She didn’t expect Cheng Jinyang to be so popular that she ended up being the public enemy. How should she clear up all these misunderstandings?
“I’ll make some hangover soup. You guys help him back to his room,” Miss Qingqing sighed helplessly and headed to the kitchen.
Li Qingwan and Cui Jinqi helped Cheng Jinyang to his bedroom. Li Qingwan went to the bathroom to wet a towel, while Cui Jinqi poured him some water. They cooperated with remarkable coordination.
After a few more glasses of water, Cheng Jinyang finally regained some clarity, though his head still throbbed. He smiled bitterly and said, “Jinqi, remind me next time that I should never drink with someone from the Li family… they drink white liquor like it’s water.”
“You’re thinking of a next time?” Cui Xiaoniang said angrily, “You’ve only been to the Cui clan once and you’re already planning a second visit to the Li clan?”
Cheng Jinyang: Huh?
But Cui Xiaoniang quickly realized she misspoke and turned around to pour more water.
“Hey, I just remembered something.” Cheng Jinyang clapped his hands and said, “Jinqi, you’ve been acting a bit strange lately.”
“What’s wrong with me?” Cui Xiaoniang asked, puzzled. She then handed him the cup.
“You haven’t played any pranks or told any lies in a long time,” Cheng Jinyang said, taking a sip of water.
“So…” Cui Jinqi asked softly, “Do you prefer me the way I was before, or the way I am now?”
“Hehe, I think as long as it’s you, Jinqi, any personality is great,” Cheng Jinyang said with a smile.
And so, Cui Xiaoniang’s cute face soon turned as red as if she were drunk.
