Girl, There's Something Wrong With You - Chapter 12
“Masters, if you have any questions, this humble servant will tell you everything I know, sparing no detail…”
The old man Cheng Jinyang had stopped trembled as he knelt, banging his head on the ground repeatedly.
“Hey! No need to kneel…” Cheng Jinyang, unaccustomed to such behavior, hurriedly tried to help him up.
In truth, even the servants back in the Cheng clan’s ancestral estate in the former capital, though nominally subordinates, were never required to bow or kneel to anyone.
This is the age of law and order! Cheng Jinyang thought. But unfortunately, many places still seemed stuck in the past. Sima Zhongda’s forced acceleration of civilization’s development hadn’t managed to address everything thoroughly.
“No matter, just speak,” Wang Wanrou said coolly, tossing some money on the ground.
Strangely, despite Cheng Jinyang’s friendly demeanor and insistence that the old man stand, the latter had remained stubbornly on his knees. Yet when Wang Wanrou took out money with an air of superiority, the old man immediately believed her, picking up the money and standing, shoulders slumped in a servile posture.
“Do you know of an old woman named Old Lady Luo in the area?” Cheng Jinyang asked. “She’s known for preaching about the White Lotus Mother, handing out talismans and pamphlets.”
“Oh, everyone knows her,” the old man said with a sycophantic smile. “They say she’s originally from Liao territory. She lives at the end of this street, turn left, in the longhouse—fourth unit from the left. It used to be just a firewood storage room…”
“Firewood storage?” Cheng Jinyang asked curiously. “How did it end up as her residence?”
“That place is haunted!” The old man’s face turned pale with fear. “Old Lady Luo initially rented the firewood room from the owner because it was cheap. Later, the homeowner’s son got married, and the family needed more space. They told Old Lady Luo to move out.”
“She’d already paid half a year’s rent and refused to leave. The homeowner hired people to break the lock at night and forcibly threw her out.”
“Old Lady Luo went to the security bureau to file a complaint, but when she returned with the officers, they found the entire family of five dead in the house!”
He recounted the tale vividly but noticed that neither Cheng Jinyang nor Wang Wanrou showed any reaction. Hastily, he suppressed his schadenfreude and resumed his obsequious demeanor.
“What did the security bureau say afterward?” Cheng Jinyang asked.
“They couldn’t find anything!” The old man shook his head emphatically. “A vengeful ghost killing people—what’s there to investigate? Old Lady Luo’s daughter died years ago, but she still talks about her all the time to the neighbors. Everyone says her daughter turned into a vengeful spirit to protect her, so no one dares to get involved with her.”
“The house later passed to the homeowner’s younger brother after the family’s death. But even he didn’t dare move in. It’s been abandoned for years and can’t be sold. So Old Lady Luo just kept living in the firewood room. That’s about it.”
“Alright.” Cheng Jinyang nodded, realizing they wouldn’t get any more useful information from the old man. Turning to Wang Wanrou, he asked, “Shall we?”
“Let’s go,” Wang Wanrou agreed.
Following the old man’s directions, they soon arrived at the longhouse.
The so-called longhouse consisted of a row of about ten rooms connected horizontally, with another row stacked on top. If someone set fire to the first room, the flames could easily spread to the very last one—an absolute disaster from a fire safety perspective.
Since Old Lady Luo was still in custody at the security bureau, the house was certainly unoccupied. Cheng Jinyang found the corresponding unit based on the directions and studied the door lock before turning to Wang Wanrou.
“This would count as illegal entry, right?”
“You’ve already posed a threat to the monster inside,” Wang Wanrou said leisurely. “That’s why it came out to kill.”
“How do we get in?” Cheng Jinyang asked. “There aren’t even any windows.”
“Use metal manipulation,” Wang Wanrou replied.
“Qingqing isn’t here… Oh, I know.” Cheng Jinyang activated his demonization state.
Immediately, the voices in his mind began clamoring.
“Everyone, quiet!” Cheng Jinyang commanded with authority. “Qingqing! I need your help!”
“Do you want me to bear your child?” Qingqing asked.
“That’s… up for discussion later. Don’t distract me—I’m about to break into someone’s house,” Cheng Jinyang replied, raising his hand toward the door lock, which promptly melted away.
“Scan with electromagnetic waves first,” Wang Wanrou reminded him.
“Got it.” Cheng Jinyang moved his fingers, pulling the door open just a crack and sending electromagnetic waves inside.
“What the…?!”
The scan revealed three biological entities lurking in the corners of the room. Judging by their spectral characteristics, they appeared to be… ghosts?
“They’ve noticed us!”
As he sounded the warning, Cheng Jinyang retreated rapidly, pulling Wang Wanrou into the air with him. Below, the door burst open, and a semi-transparent demonic wind rushed out, hurtling toward the two of them.
The wind was semi-transparent because Yang Wangshu’s algorithm had integrated electromagnetic visuals into their view. This revealed three ghosts emerging from the wind, their cold eyes glinting and lips tightly pressed, radiating a murderous aura…
They were surprisingly attractive.
Cheng Jinyang remained calm. Stretching out his hand, he made a subtle gesture. Ghosts, as demonic beings, were naturally lightweight, which allowed them to be carried by the wind. But now, their mass suddenly increased dramatically, causing them to plummet to the ground.
“Leave one alive,” Wang Wanrou reminded him.
Cheng Jinyang nodded, raising his hand again. The gravitational forces shifted, lifting the three ghosts apart. With a flick of his wrist, two pieces of metal flew out, tightly binding two of the ghosts and crushing them into dust.
He turned to the remaining ghost, who was still struggling violently. Her limbs and body kept morphing, spewing gusts of wind in an attempt to escape, but she couldn’t move an inch. Her mass had become so absurdly heavy that ordinary winds couldn’t budge her.
“Let me ask you,” Cheng Jinyang said directly. “Who is your master?”
The ghost didn’t answer. Instead, her face contorted, transforming into a ferocious visage with a blue-green face and sharp fangs. She began screaming and cursing madly: “I curse you! Curse you to fall into the lowest depths of hell and die a miserable death…”
“Let me handle this,” Wang Wanrou said, motioning for Cheng Jinyang to step aside. She turned to the ghost and said coldly, “I am your master.”
The ghost’s eyes briefly flickered with disdain but were quickly replaced by terror. She let out a pained scream, as though suffering from intense headaches. Her face shifted erratically before settling into a submissive expression.
“Yes, Master,” she whispered.
The voices in Cheng Jinyang’s mind abruptly fell silent—all the girls in his mental space were stunned by the scene before them.
“Who was your previous master?” Wang Wanrou asked.
“The Lord of Qinghe,” the ghost replied.
“What did she order you to do here?”
“To protect her mother.”
“Huh?” Cheng Jinyang chuckled in surprise. “So Old Lady Luo’s daughter is actually Qinghe’s great demon, Murong Shu?”
“Why else would they send her to Pengcheng County, so close to the frontlines?” Wang Wanrou said coolly, as if she had anticipated it. “Wouldn’t it have been safer to send her to Jiankang City in the rear? It’s simply because being closer made it easier to send demons to protect her.”
“Brilliant!” Cheng Jinyang clapped his hands in admiration. “Miss Wang, your intellect truly knows no bounds. I hadn’t connected the dots at all before now.”
The mental space erupted into chaos again as the girls voiced their objections:
“Ugh!”
“I’m going to throw up! Yuan Zhi, get me a plastic bag…”
“Jin Qi, look at this Jinyang. Doesn’t he act like a pathetic bootlicker?”
“You all don’t understand!” Cheng Jinyang defended himself. “I’m just being honest and straightforward! Acknowledging her intelligence—what’s wrong with that?”
“You’re just lusting after her!” the voices retorted.
“Let’s land somewhere first,” Wang Wanrou said, ignoring the jealous uproar in his mind. “Find a quiet place so I can question her further.”
Cheng Jinyang deactivated his demonization and brought Miss Wang to a secluded spot to land.
Meanwhile, back in Jingkou at the Cheng clan estate, Cui Jinqi leaped to her feet in the living room. “Quick! Qingqing, grab the map—they’re in Pengcheng County right now!”
