Girl, There's Something Wrong With You - Chapter 14
Yujing San walked to the end of the alley, glanced around to make sure no one was there, and slipped into a nearby house.
The three immediately followed into the alley. Just as they reached the door, it suddenly opened.
From the darkness inside, Yujing San stepped out, her face cold and severe. She said icily,
“Daring to follow me… huh? It’s you?”
She stared at Cheng Jinyang for a moment, then shifted her gaze to Wang Wanrou and the princess. Curling her lips, she said,
“Never thought I’d run into you in the mortal world after being resurrected.”
“Miss Yujing,” Cheng Jinyang cupped his hands and smiled. “It’s been a long time. You’re as beautiful and charming as ever.”
Having dealt with the likes of Ye Ru and Cai Zhaoqin, Cheng Jinyang had long since mastered the art of flattering these demons.
Sure enough, Yujing San immediately broke into a dazzling smile and said,
“Still such a sweet talker… Don’t call me Yujing anymore. The Starfire’s been taken from me, and I don’t deserve that title. Just call me Jiang Jiu.”
She turned and walked back into the house. Cheng Jinyang led the two women in after her, finding the house a simple one-room setup with a bed in clear view as soon as they entered.
Jiang Jiu sat on the edge of the bed, propping her legs up on the nightstand. She casually turned on the TV, saying,
“Just rented this place, haven’t bought any chairs yet. Make yourselves comfortable.”
Wang Wanrou glanced around and asked,
“Are you being hunted?”
Jiang Jiu’s hand paused mid-click on the remote. She glared at Wang Wanrou and said,
“How do you know… Never mind, I’ll just kill you here to shut you up.”
She stood abruptly, and Cheng Jinyang quickly stepped in front of her with a smile.
“Yujing—ah, no, Jiang Jiu, my dear elder sister, we’ve just met again. Why resort to violence?”
“I’ve had enough of your face!” Jiang Jiu growled, her eyes filled with irritation. “Stop flaunting it in front of me!”
She then turned to the princess and said,
“And you!”
“Me?” the princess asked, surprised.
“Got some nerve looking this well-fed, huh?” Jiang Jiu walked up to her. Finding that her height barely reached the princess’s chest, she raised her hand and gave the ample curves a sharp poke. “Feeling smug, are we?”
The princess: ?
She had thought this demon was about to attack her and had her mantis blades ready to deploy from her arms. Instead, it turned out to be a fit of jealousy over her figure… How childish.
“Are you being hunted by someone?” Cheng Jinyang quickly refocused the topic, suspecting it might involve Murong Shu. “Is it a demon?”
“Of course, it’s that wretch who stole the Starfire of the Yujing Star General!” Jiang Jiu said bitterly. “Damn it! While I was waiting for my resurrection, she grew this powerful!”
The three exchanged silent glances.
“Is she in Qinghe County now?” Cheng Jinyang asked.
“Probably,” Jiang Jiu replied reluctantly. “But since the Monitoring Star Lord and Meng Zhang Star Lord don’t get along, she might not dare to act recklessly on Meng Zhang’s turf. That’s why I fled here.”
“Meng Zhang Star Lord’s real name is Murong Shu, right?” Cheng Jinyang asked again.
Jiang Jiu froze for a moment, then suddenly jumped up.
“How do you know that? Ah, I see! You’re trying to become Meng Zhang Star Lord’s boy toy! Too bad for you, she doesn’t keep boy toys. Most demons don’t. They think men are beneath them…”
“What kind of nonsense is that?” Cheng Jinyang said, laughing despite himself. “We’re here to discuss something with her.”
“Discuss what?”
“Her mother isn’t doing well in the human world. We want to make a deal to have her live in my territory,” Cheng Jinyang explained.
It took Jiang Jiu about ten seconds to process the hidden premise that “Meng Zhang Star Lord’s mother is human.” She sneered.
“So, you’re here to kiss up to her.”
The princess glanced at Cheng Jinyang after hearing this, her eyes clearly conveying: Is your demon friend a bit dim-witted?
“Can you get in touch with Murong Shu?” Cheng Jinyang asked again.
Jiang Jiu hesitated for a moment before nodding. “I know one of her subordinates.”
“That’s great!” Cheng Jinyang clapped his hands and laughed. “This way, we’ve got a direct connection to Murong Shu.”
“Why are you buttering her up?” Jiang Jiu asked curiously. “Meng Zhang Star Lord has always been cautious by nature and rarely involves herself in demon clan politics. If you’re looking to gain benefits from her, you’ve probably picked the wrong person.”
“Hahaha, you don’t get it.” Cheng Jinyang chuckled a few times but didn’t bother explaining further.
For someone who secretly arranged demon guards and managed to safely transport her mother from Liaodong to Pengcheng, could she really be unfilial? It was just that Old Lady Luo wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed and seemed content to live in a firewood shack. If it had been someone more shrewd and calculating, they’d have already moved into a mansion after realizing the house’s owner had mysteriously died.
Murong Shu’s arrangements for her mother—Wang Wanrou had already extracted plenty of information from the ghosts’ minds about them.
“We’ve temporarily settled her mother in a nearby hotel,” Cheng Jinyang said. “Next, we can discuss how to approach Murong Shu… but why don’t we go grab a meal first?”
Jiang Jiu, being someone without much guile, nodded readily. “Sure, there’s a great roast chicken place nearby. You can treat me.”
The group chuckled, which made Jiang Jiu slightly annoyed. You were the one who suggested eating first!
While the four of them headed out for a meal, in the southern Jingkou territory, Yang Wangshu was reluctantly packing her things and leaving her room.
As much as she hated going out, Li Qingwan had baited her with a limited-edition, vintage game figurine as an incentive for dinner. This figurine had been released years ago as part of a collaboration between four famous manufacturers, but Yang Wangshu had missed out on buying it due to being hospitalized at the time. It had long since become a collector’s item.
At a tea café, Xiao Wangshu finished her cake and happily started digging into her ice cream. Sitting across from her, Li Qingwan exchanged silent glances with Zheng Qiupei and Lu Qingyun.
“Wangshu,” Zheng Qiupei asked gently, “doesn’t it seem like Yuan Zhi and the others have been acting a bit strange lately? They’ve been having private discussions with Qingqing and Jinqi, and when we approach, they immediately change the subject or scatter.”
“Strange?” Yang Wangshu paused for a long moment. “Now that you mention it… yeah. I’ve invited her to play games with me several times, but she always politely declines with some excuse.”
The group collectively fell silent. Xing Yuanzhi has never been interested in your computer games, okay?
“Hold on, I’ll check.” Yang Wangshu adjusted her mask, started typing furiously on her keyboard, and after a while said, “Hmm… yeah, it seems like they’re planning a long trip. Even though their travel info is encrypted on the Earthweb, there are some activity logs that hint at it.”
“A long trip?” Li Qingwan asked anxiously.
Why are they suddenly planning a trip? Could it be…
“They’re heading to Pengcheng County near the demon front lines to find Jinyang!”
Perhaps having arrived at the same conclusion regarding Xing Yuanzhi and the others’ intentions, Zheng Qiupei and Lu Qingyun’s expressions darkened as well.
