I Can Distinguish the Twin Sister - Chapter 36
Secret Study Session
” ….. “
“Hey, what’s up? You’re spacing out.”
“…Oh, why, Yoshiki?”
” ‘Why’ ? That’s a way to greet someone.”
…sorry about that.
I sincerely apologized and Yoshiki chuckled, saying there was no need to bow so deeply… Honestly, I didn’t expect to be this spaced out… sigh.
(…it’s because I went to Rin’ne and Yomi’s houses.)
It was the first time I went to a girl’s house to hang out, and it was the house of the famous twin beauties at our school… maybe anyone would react like this.
“What about Masashi?”
“He rushed to the restroom as soon as he arrived.”
“Ah…”
That must have been quite the hurry, I chuckled.
With a light grunt, Yoshiki settled into a nearby seat, grinning mischievously as he looked at me.
“So? What’s wrong?”
“No, there’s nothing.”
Yoshiki and Masashi both know that I can tell Rin’ne and Yomi apart… But I doubt they think we’re close enough to visit either of their houses.
Or rather, they’re famous twin beauties at school… Just imagine how that news would spread if word got out that I visited their houses… It’s scary just thinking about it.
“Phew… I feel relieved now.”
“Good morning, Masashi.”
“Finally showed up, huh.”
Masashi appeared a bit late, rubbing his belly.
When the three of us gather, our conversations mostly revolve around playing something, but there are also topics related to Masashi being a part of the soccer club.
“So, how’s your form for the summer tournament and stuff?”
“Oh, you actually asked. Everything’s going great—I’m doing well, and not just me, but the rest of the team too. Even the manager is full of enthusiasm.”
“Wow, that’s great to hear.”
“If it’s nearby, I’m thinking of going to cheer them… “
Of course, I want to cheer for my friends who are doing their best.
I’m not personally into soccer, and I only get really into tournaments that come around every few years on TV… but surprisingly, I enjoyed watching Masashi play soccer.
I was mostly talking with Yoshiki… but there’s a unique atmosphere during tournaments.
“Good morning.”
“Morning~”
While spending an enjoyable time with my two friends like that, the Aragaki sisters entered and greeted us with their lovely voices.
As we observed her friends and other outgoing guys gathering around them, Yoshiki muttered under his breath.
“You know… Even now, I seriously can’t tell the difference between the two.”
Masashi followed up on Yoshiki’s words.
“Between Rin’ne-san and Yomi-san… Their hairstyles and accessories are different, but their facial features really are the same. Seriously, how do you tell the difference?”
” …… “
How many times have we had this exchange? I also gazed intently at them.
I’ve met them in the past, and thanks to that, I think I’ve become closer to them than the average person.
I do think they are nice girls… but it’s not some impure desire to possess them or anything like that. It’s a genuine desire to be good friends with them.
“Uh…”
That being said, even as I feel that way, there are many things I remember.
I’ve never thought of myself as the protagonist of a romantic comedy manga, but it’s a fact that I’ve experienced some slightly lucky lewd coincidences… uh, my face is getting hot again.
“Your face is red? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Hmm?”
I shook my head and tried to somehow forget about it.
During our conversation, Rin’ne and Yomi occasionally entered my peripheral vision, and each time, I inevitably found myself glancing at them.
Laughing with the same expressions, the two of them were very popular in our class.
Girls would come up to Yomi, putting their arms around her… Just they were important to me, they also had cherished friends who were just as important to them.
“I’m…thinking of confessing to Aragaki-san.”
“Which one?”
“The older sister. I got swept away by her smile when she helped me pick up my handkerchief.”
I overheard this conversation from behind, and it made me chuckle; they really are irresistible.
However… by looking in their direction like that, Rin’ne noticed me and turned her beautiful eyes directly at me.
She knew that doing anything special would draw attention amidst the gazes around… so she just smiled subtly.
(I often wonder, when our eyes meet like this in the classroom… what could the two of them be thinking?)
I had thought that I might ask if the opportunity arose, but that moment arrived sooner than I expected.
After lunch, having finished eating, on my way back from the restroom, right before entering the classroom—Yomi stopped me.
“Akito-kun.”
“Yomi?”
Was she returning with a friend from the restroom as well?
Not asking, ‘Restroom break?’ at times like these was the gentlemanly thing to do, so I vowed to myself that I shouldn’t slip up.
“What’s going on?”
“I called out because I saw your back. You go back first.”
“Sure.”
“See you later~”
With a smirk, my friends entered the classroom, smiling.
Yomi tugged me over and led me a bit to the side. Although the guy who had glared at me the other day happened to be nearby and gave me another glare, Yomi spoke up.
“Hey, is it really okay to glare at people like that?”
“Sorry…”
Oh… I don’t know what Yomi’s expression was, but after being stared at by her, the guy awkwardly averted his gaze and walked away.
I wasn’t thinking ‘serves him right’ about what just happened, I don’t feel good when someone stares at me without saying anything. I hoped he would stop from now on.
“I’m sorry for bringing you over here like this.”
“No, it’s totally fine. So… what’s wrong?”
“Uh, that… well…”
After glancing around to confirm no one was nearby, Yomi continued.
“As usual, we will have regular tests coming up before summer break, right?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“…Would you study with me?”
“…Huh?”
I see… an invitation to study together.
For high school students, the results of regular tests directly impacted their grades, so slacking off wasn’t an option. Trying to get good grades was clearly the better choice.
“With me…?”
“Yeah… I want to study with you, Akito-kun.”
” ….. “
I remembered Yomi had always said she studied with Rin’ne.
I wasn’t catastrophically bad at academics, but I’m not good enough to teach someone else how to study either. Still, having someone like Rin’ne around to help would be better.
“What do you think?”
“Ah… I don’t mind. Studying is important, after all.”
“That’s a promise! Thanks, Akito-kun!”
She seemed really happy about this…
But does Rin’ne know about this? I was about to ask that, but the bell rang, and we hurried back to the classroom… On the way back——
“Keep this a secret from Aneki, okay?”
…that’s what she said.
