I Can Distinguish the Twin Sister - Chapter 6
A few days have passed since I talked with two beautiful famous sisters in my class, Rin’ne-san, and Yomi-san.
Needless to say, that event certainly created a new relationship between them and me, but that didn’t mean that I would make time to meet with them specially, and time went on as usual.
“…Hmm? ”
But they still responded to me when our eyes met occasionally.
Even now, as I sit in my seat in a daze, my eyes meet those of two girls who are happily chatting with their friends.
Rin’ne-san smiles at me, and Yomi-san gently raises her hand.
“What are you looking at? I mean, were you looking at those two again?”
“Hasn’t there been an increase lately? ”
He tapped me on the shoulder, just like the other day.
I couldn’t say “shut up,” so I just silently accepted it ―because it’s true, the more eye contact we have, the more I spend staring at each other.
Of course, not as much as the love-struck boys who stare at them, but I can’t deny that I’m a little conscious about them.
(I mean, it’s not like I’m in love or anything.)
I know it sounds like an excuse, but I can assure you that this is not love.
It’s not that it’s a weird feeling. It’s a mysterious feeling that I don’t understand either… I can only say that I feel something unconsciously.
I sigh, thinking it will stop bothering me soon anyway, and I ask them a question as if to change the subject of the conversation.
“The question is, which is which?”
They quickly answered my question.
“The one on the right is the older sister.”
“The one on the left is the younger sister.”
“……Hou? ”
Neither of them was wrong.
I was a bit amazed at this, but it seems that it was just a fluke or a guess.
“No, the one on the right is the younger sister! ”
“Err, the one on the left is the elder sister! ”
” …….. ”
Too bad. They would have been right if they had left it as it was.
After that, the teacher came, and the class started, but it seemed that even the teacher, who had only contact with the students in class, had difficulty identifying the girls.
Even though there was a printout of their names written in the order of their seats on the teacher’s table, the teachers named one of the girls after a long and careful check.
“Rin’ne Aragaki-san. Please try to solve this problem.”
“Yes. ”
Ah, you’re making that face while looking at the paper…
Rin’ne-san stood in front of the blackboard and solved the problems quickly, but they were somehow difficult, as they were in the range we had just learned.
The teacher applauded her for reaching the answer, and the other classmates commented on her great performance.
“Okay, let’s have… Yomi Aragaki solves the next one.”
“Y-yes…”
Yomi-san was the next one to be nominated.
Unlike Rin’ne-san, she stood in front of the blackboard looking unconfident and slowly solved the problems while thinking hard.
Eventually, she was able to answer the question, but her answer was wrong and the teacher wrote the correct answer on the blackboard.
“It was a difficult problem. You don’t need to worry about it.”
” …yes ”
“Probably not that many people could solve it. Yomi-san should ask your NÄ“-san to show you how to do it.”
“….I understand. ”
To the teacher, it must have been a casual remark.
Still, as someone who had heard Yomi-san’s story before, it was easy for me to imagine that it would provoke Yomi-san’s negative feelings.
As proof, Yomi-san is looking down and writing frantically in her notebook.
I don’t know what she is thinking, but I can imagine she must be frustrated.
“That’s all for today. Day duty, give the order.”
“Yes. Stand up. Bow.”
Class is over, and it’s lunchtime.
After eating lunch with Yoshiki and Masashi at the same desk, I went to the bathroom with them.
Yomi-san was walking alone toward the stairs leading to the rooftop.
“Sorry. I just remembered I have something to do.”
“Something? ”
“Yea, then you’ll go back first, okay?”
“Yep.”
I told them and followed Yomi-san.
Normally, I wouldn’t have cared about anything. But that backside was bothering me, probably because recently I was involved with her.
The sound of my footsteps toward the rooftop was very loud.
I never go to the rooftop with a clear purpose, but this might be the first time I go there like this.
“Well, there’s no need to go to the rooftop in the first place.”
I smiled and went out to the rooftop.
I knew that Yomi-san was the only one on the rooftop, so I opened the door noisily without hesitation. Naturally, Yomi-san noticed me and looked at me.
“Nagase-kun? ”
“Oh, hi.”
I raised my hand and went to her, and she smiled and said
“Oh, did I worry you by telling you my story last time? ”
“…I know it’s a little bit meddlesome, but I saw you go to the rooftop alone after using the bathroom with your friends.”
“…I see”
I thought it was meddlesome, and I also thought about the possibility of being told that I was taking care of something I didn’t need to.
Still, I was sorry to hear her story, and I let my own concerns take precedence.
She looked back at me with her back leaning against the railing and smiled at me as if there was no need to worry.
“It’s fine, okay? She never says anything wrong, and I’m sure Aneki will tell me everything I need to know if I ask her. I often cry to Aneki before the regular exams, too.”
“Oh? You really love Rin’ne-san, don’t you? ”
“Of course I do. But maybe if I didn’t talk to Nagase-kun, you might have thought I have an aversion to my own family. ”
“….No, I don’t know about that.”
“Eh?”
I got in line next to her.
And I tell her what I was thinking from the time I heard that comment until I actually talked to Yomi-san.
“I couldn’t believe it. I mean, Yomi-san and Rin’ne-san usually get along well, don’t they? Of course, it may have been because of the public appearance, but still, from my not-so-high observation, it seemed like she was very much… love her.”
“You say so yourself? ”
“I say it with confidence. Well, that’s just what I thought, and I was wondering if you misunderstood me.”
“I see. So that’s how you look at me.”
Even if it wasn’t me, they’d say something like that.
You two stand out. They’re twins, beautiful, and look like each other in every way… but more than that, they’re always smiling and talking warmly to each other.
So no one would think there is any awkwardness between them, and some people would think they would never fight.
“Well, Nagase-kun is right. We are basically good friends, but sometimes I just say bad things about Aneki as if I’m having a seizure.”
“Be careful not to be heard, okay? ”
“I know. NÄ“-san would probably laugh it off even if she did hear it.”
” …did Rin’ne-san ever get angry? ”
“I don’t think I’ve seen her angry, at least not recently. The last time she got angry was because I got picked on by a high schooler in middle school, and when he grabbed me by the shoulder, she swung her bag around and snapped at him.”
“Wow.”
I couldn’t imagine Rin’ne-san losing her temper, but I guess I could imagine her getting angry to protect her precious sister.
Yomi-san looked up, staring at the sky, and whispered to me.
“Not so much this year, but a word was often said to me until last year.”
“Yea?”
“I could do it, so I thought you could do it too,”
“…I see.”
I guess that’s a word that stimulates the part of her that doesn’t like to hear.
I heard that she was often told that way when she was in junior high school and that a sarcastic teacher often referred to her older sister while being a sarcastic person and said many things to her.
“Because of that, even if they don’t mean to be sarcastic or anything like that, if they say something similar, I wonder why they bring up Aneki. Of course, Aneki did nothing wrong, and it’s the person who said that who made me lose my temper, but… I sometimes have occasional outbursts. I’m a troublesome person if I do say so myself.”
Yomi-san continued.
“But… it’s not so bad to have people listen to me like this. Nagase-kun, you really have a gift for listening to people, don’t you? I’m just blabbering on and on without stopping.”
“It’s nice to hear you say that…..? ”
“You don’t seem confident, do you? I’m still quite happy that you told me that it’s not wrong to think negative things, you know? ”
I’m glad that you feel that way.
Seeing Yomi-san’s worry-free smile, I feel relieved that I don’t have to worry about anything.
“But I’m afraid that I’m going to blow up in front of you sooner or later.”
“Don’t worry, that’s what I’m thinking too.”
I don’t say this with confidence.
I exhale, exasperated at Yomi-san’s smiling face, but suddenly Yomi-san moves her face closer to mine as if peering into my eyes.
“By the way, Nagase-kun,”
“Hm? ”
“You came here because you saw me heading to the rooftop, right? ”
“That’s right.”
“And you knew it was me just from my back? ”
Her eyes sparkled as she looked into my face.
It was as if Rin’ne-san had been staring at me before. They are really similar as sisters.
