- Chapter 30 - Necromancer-san Wants to Be Killed
When Liliamila returned to the room, as expected, the Sage and Knight were waiting with displeased expressions.
“You’re late.”
“Well, I took the liberty of meeting the rumored girl as well.”
Shana’s sarcasm slid off her like water off a dragon’s scales as Liliamila opened the glass door. Naturally, the scent of demonic blood spread throughout the room. Yet none of the women here were the type to flinch at such a thing.
“Ufufu. Meeting Hero-sama always fills me with energy. I feel so motivated now.”
“Good for you. You seem quite close, which is reassuring.”
“Of course! After all, Hero-sama and I share an unbreakable bond.”
“A bond, huh.”
Ignoring Aria’s pointed gaze, Liliamila began preparing for her work.
“As I mentioned earlier, I don’t think this will be very meaningful.”
“I’m well aware. But doing something is better than doing nothing.”
“Exactly.”
“Well, if you both insist so strongly, as a fellow party member, I’m not opposed to lending my strength.”
—
There are various types of resurrection magic.
For example, necromancy that animates corpses into zombies or the living dead. This involves engraving magical inscriptions into the brain to replace electrical signals, allowing the caster to command basic actions. It is one of the most common forms of necromancy.
“…Let us begin.”
However, the magic of Liliamila Guildenstern was fundamentally different from such forms of resurrection.
“One.”
Her finger touched a fragment of flesh.
“Two.”
Slowly, yet unmistakably, life began returning to the lifeless meat that had been reduced to unresponsive chunks.
“Three.”
The severed body parts reconnected. Blood that had been dripping uselessly began circulating through veins. The dormant brain resumed its activity. The once-stilled heart began to beat with a rhythmic pulse.
“Four.”
Finally, the lungs expanded with a deep breath.
Literally, it came back to life.
Slowly counting to four—this marked the activation of her magic.
“…Huh?”
With a look of utter bewilderment, the resurrected demon scanned its surroundings.
Touching her finger, which had just grazed the corpse, to her lips, Liliamila smiled.
“Good morning, Demon-sama.”
Watching this from the corner of the room, Shana and Aria exchanged glances and sighed.
“That’s truly a grotesque magic, no matter how many times I see it.”
“It absolutely violates the ethics of life itself.”
“Ara, ara. Such harsh words. I was merely following your orders to revive a valuable source of information.”
It was at this moment that the demon seemed to finally grasp the situation it was in. Turning its gaze to Liliamila, it glared, and then—
“…This once-destroyed body is honored to be revived by your mystic power, Liliamila Guildenstern-sama.”
“Ara?”
The demon bowed its head deeply.
This was an unexpected reaction. Liliamila regarded the demon’s entire body with great interest.
“I killed you earlier without even exchanging words, yet you seem to know of me?”
“Of course. You are one of the four most revered apostles of our king. Despite being human, you held the Second Seat—a position befitting only a rare sorceress of your caliber.”
“Ara, ara, ara! Did you both hear that? A rare sorceress! That’s what I am!”
“You’re probably the only person who gets this happy being praised by a demon.”
“Agreed.”
As Liliamila squirmed with delight, both Shana and Aria watched her with cold, unimpressed eyes.
“But that’s precisely why I don’t understand. You once ascended to the pinnacle of darkness—so why did you betray her?”
“Hmm?”
With a slight tilt of her head, the earrings hanging from Liliamila’s ears swayed.
Stillness and movement. The emotions between the demon and Liliamila were entirely out of sync.
“If only you hadn’t betrayed her… The age of chaos would never have ended, and the world of humans would have become a paradise ruled by us demons! She wouldn’t have lost!”
Demons deceive. Demons lie.
However, these words were neither lies nor deceit. They were the demon’s unfiltered truth, shared not just by this one demon but by all its kind.
“I see. I understand your turmoil very well.”
Liliamila nodded.
She knelt down, placing a gentle hand on the demon’s shoulder to meet its gaze.
“But… calling it betrayal isn’t quite accurate.”
To correct their differing perceptions, her crimson lips moved smoothly, forming words.
“I simply fell in love.”
Shana and Aria silently placed their heads in their hands.
“Fell… in love?”
“Yes.”
Ignoring the demon’s confusion, Liliamila clasped her hands over her chest, lost in thought.
“It was the third time in my life.”
Liliamila Guildenstern had loved three people in her life.
The first was the pitiable man who was broken by her magic.
The second was the Demon King, who sought to break the world with her magic.
“I fell in love with a man. Isn’t it natural for one’s values to change from the ground up?”
And the third was the Hero, who sought to save the world with her magic.
“Falling in love makes one vulnerable, doesn’t it? But don’t you think it’s only natural? Being influenced by a man you adore—it’s practically instinct for a woman.”
Liliamila Guildenstern had never once considered her so-called betrayal to be shameful. After all, her beliefs and the principles guiding her actions had never faltered, not even for a moment.
“Even a world I wanted to destroy yesterday is worth saving today.”
“You…!”
The demon’s wings, tail, and shoulders trembled—not unlike a human shivering in rage.
“Aren’t you ashamed?! You, a human, who was taken in by her grace, living so brazenly like this—isn’t it shameful?!”
“Not in the slightest.”
The demon screamed.
“YOU WRETCHHHHHHH!”
With a deafening roar, the demon plunged its claws into Liliamila’s neck, severing her head. Her body collapsed to the ground. Its claws continued tearing into her robes, staining the pristine white fabric with blood-red.
“You disgraceful human! You shameless wretch! You filthy, despicable creature!”
The sound of flesh being ripped and bones being crushed filled the air until the demon’s fury subsided. Regaining its composure, the demon turned to the two humans still standing.
“…You’re fine with this? Watching your comrade be killed without lifting a finger?”
“Yep.”
Aria spoke without moving an inch, her arms crossed. The demon sneered in response.
“I thought humans valued bonds. But it seems she was only worth that much to you.”
“Yeah, well. I was never particularly fond of her.”
Playing with a strand of silver hair spilling from her hood, Shana gave a disinterested reply.
“Hah. So this is the reality of the party that saved the world? In that case, it’s your turn to join her in death.”
“Are you sure about that?”
“What?”
Suppressing a yawn, the Sage continued.
It was a pure warning directed at the demon.
“It’s already been four seconds.”
Slowly counting to four—that was the time required for her magic to activate.
Before the demon could turn, it felt a warm breath near its ear.
“Good morning.”
Silky black hair brushed against its shoulder. The tattered remains of her clothing still hung on her body, and the faint sensation of her ample chest grazing its wings left no doubt.
This was undeniably the touch of a living woman.
“Huh?”
The voice that escaped the demon’s lips was identical to the one it had made when it had been resurrected.
“Surely not… Did you necromance yourself?”
“Your premise is slightly off.”
The necromancer corrected it.
“My magic resurrects everything I touch, including myself.”
Anything touched by her comes back to life.
Even she herself can come back to life.
In her presence, the very essence of life is rewritten.
This is the arrogance of violet dominion, where life and death are but tools to be manipulated.
“Fallen Purple Soul—Ed Morado.” Liliamila Guildenstern.
She is the world’s most infamous necromancer and a sorceress who once saved the world.
“That’s… that’s absurd! Someone as unworthy as you having such power—!”
“Ah, yes. The Demon King truly was a far superior being to lowly demons like you. Even when sending me away, she bid me farewell with the same poise as always.”
“Be happy,” the girl had said.
The true meaning behind those words was something this demon would likely never understand.
“You probably don’t know much about my magic, and that’s fine. But I will still interrogate you to extract whatever you do know. And luckily, I have two very reliable companions here to help.”
“…P-please, stop. Don’t kill me. I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die again!”
“Ara, whatever are you talking about? You’re already dead.”
The Sage and Knight silently flanked the necromancer.
“Once something dies, it has no right to live again, does it?”
