Prologue
People often say it’s what’s inside that counts more than appearances.
Especially celebrities, who, when asked by entertainment reporters at their wedding, ‘What was the deciding factor for choosing your partner?’ often give the safe response, ‘It’s definitely their personality.’
But I want to say it out loud, fully aware that it might draw resentment—
—No, it’s absolutely the face! You chose them for their face!
Of course, I don’t think they made their decision based solely on beauty or handsomeness, but I’m convinced that the truth is, ‘They had a good face and also a good personality.’
I mean, even if someone isn’t conventionally attractive, I think everyone has a type of face they prefer.
Some like an innocent-looking face, others prefer a strong-featured one, or maybe they’re into a half-foreign look.
There’s an initial attraction, and then you become interested, talk and find them fun, amusing, or thrilling, and what was a light crush develops into something more serious.
I believe that’s the case for most people, if not everyone.
There are also those who fall for someone after seeing a different smile or a serious expression—different from the usual. Even though they say it’s ‘seeing a different side’, I think it’s mostly about the face.
In short, what I’m trying to say is that the initial hook for falling in love is appearance, and no matter how good someone’s personality may be, if they’re completely not your type, it might not develop into romantic feelings.
…With that opinion in mind, I confess.
It’s a confession that might make you question my sanity, but please, just hear me out.
—It seems that I’m in love with the gorilla sitting next to me.
