- Chapter 156 - Necessities for the Marshlands
“Never did I expect you to fill up my magic cauldron to the brim. I must thank you, Shuu-kun. Now I can create items that I’ve been hesitating to make before.”
Unlike her earlier appearance in underwear, Saffy now stood before me in her usual attire, expressing her gratitude.
“If it’s only this much, its no problem at all.”
“Even when the magic cauldron is full, your mana hasn’t depleted?”
“That’s right. It feels like it’s only decreased by about a third.”
“I see! Only a third!”
As I exclaimed, Saffy burst into laughter as if thoroughly amused.
I guess even with the cauldron filled to the brim, it’s still remarkable that only a third of my mana has been used up.
After a hearty laugh, Saffy spoke seriously.
“What do you say, Shuu-kun? Would you consider regularly infusing my magic cauldron with mana? Of course, there will be generous compensation.”
“I’m not always in Grantel, so it would have to be at a time when I’m genuinely free.”
If I’m not using the Sea Guardian’s Bracelet or going on adventures, using up some mana isn’t an issue.
It’s a job that earns without any initial investment. Not a bad deal for me.
“Oh, that’s plenty! I’ll transfer today’s payment to your account!”
“For a while, we can use magic freely without worry!”
Not only Saffy but also Lumia, who brought us tea, rejoiced at this.
Being able to use magic without worry means they can create a lot of items.
As an apprentice, Lumia will surely gain a lot more experience.
“Now I can create items that I’ve been holding back on. Hehehe.”
Saffy’s mouth had slackened to an almost uncontrollable extent. Maybe I’ve inadvertently removed her sense of restraint. Is she okay?
“Oh? This isn’t the usual black tea today?”
“Yes, it’s the Fu leaf tea given by Shuu-san.”
“It’s a share of what Klaus gave me.”
With a slight wry smile, we have our second tea of the day in the shop space.
“Oh, it has a distinctive taste, but it’s not bad.”
“It has a slightly different flavor and refreshing taste compared to mint tea.”
Both of them seem to like the Fu leaf tea.
We sip it slowly.
It’s nice to sit here, sipping tea and chatting with the three of us under the gentle sunlight.
Lately, I’ve been drinking at the noisy inn’s dining room or the guild’s bar.
“By the way, Shuu-san, do you have any business at the shop?”
“Ah, that’s right!”
I had gotten completely caught up with the magic cauldron and the new deal with Saffy.
When I remembered, I stated my original purpose.
“Hmm, gathering poisonous materials in the Terra Phios Marsh, huh…”
“Yes, and I’d like you to make the necessary tools and items for it.”
“Shuu-kun, I feel bad for always asking, but would you mind taking Lumia along for that task?”
“To gain experience, right?”
“Yeah, that’s it. I’ve been thinking it’s about time to teach Lumia how to handle poisonous materials. She can make simple antidote potions, but she can’t make anything of a higher level. To produce higher-quality antidote potions, she needs to understand poisonous materials.”
He’s saying the same thing as Klaus.
It seems apothecaries and alchemists think alike when it comes to poisons. It’s kind of interesting.
“What do you say, Shuu-kun?”
“It’s my first time going there, so I can’t guide you like I do around Grantel…”
I want to say confidently, “Leave it to me,” but since it’s a place I’ve never been to, I can’t be overly confident.
“With your skills, Shuu-kun, I’m sure the marshlands won’t be a problem.”
“Even if something happens, I’ll take full responsibility, so don’t worry about it.”
Words filled with determination as she looked straight into my eyes.
It seems Lumia has made up her mind to become an alchemist, even without my worrying.
It would be disrespectful to worry any further about her.
Since Saffy specifically requested me to gather with Lumia, it’s a nomination request.
“In that case, let’s go gather together.”
“Yes! Thank you, Shuu-san!”
And so, it was decided that Lumia and I would head to the wetlands together.

“Now, if we’re going to gather poisonous materials in the marshlands, what we need are antidote potions.”
As Lumia and I nodded in agreement, Saffy stood up from her chair and brought potion bottles from the cupboard.
“This one here is a low-grade antidote potion. If it’s the poison from the swamp toad or Eos, diluting this and drinking it should be sufficient for healing.”
The potion placed before us was a thin purple liquid.
It seemed like an antidote potion, but the liquid itself looked poisonous.
“And this one here is a medium-grade antidote potion. For more severe poisons like those from Tarantos or Caicedor, you’ll need this potion.”
The second potion placed was a darker shade of purple than the previous one.
“While drinking it is generally safe, Lumia will teach you how to use antidote potions according to the situation.”
“Yes, leave it to me.”
Lumia says with a smile.
That’s right. We have an expert in case of emergencies.
Thinking about it, it’s reassuring even in times of crisis.
“And this one here is the high-grade antidote potion. If you happen to ingest the poison of a creature with extremely potent toxins, you should take this. Although, whether you’ll still be alive after ingesting such potent toxins is questionable.”
Saffy placed the high-grade potion with a serious expression.
It had a reddish-purple liquid, looking incredibly potent even just by its appearance.
Or rather, Saffy’s explanation is terrifying.
“I’ll be cautious to avoid needing to use it.”
“Hmm, that would be wise. It has a certain effect on compound poisons that low and intermediate antidote potions cannot work on. It’s good to have it as an insurance just in case. ”
“Thank you.”
“As for the smaller items and tools, we’ll have Lumia carry them. The rest will be the items necessary for gathering poisonous materials. Let’s have Lumia make those as well. And while we’re at it, let’s make some shoes suitable for walking in the wetlands.”
“That would be very helpful!”
Honestly, I was unsure about what to do regarding shoes, but it seems Saffy has thought of proper protective gear.
“Now, Shuu-san, please let me measure your hands and feet.”
“Understood.”
Led by Lumia, I followed her from the shop space to the workshop in the back.
With a measuring tape in hand, Lumia measured the size of my hands and feet and noted them down meticulously.
And then, once that was done, she took out clay from the shelf and put it into a small box.
“Now, please put your hands and feet here. I’ll make molds for them.”
It was as if she was making custom-made items.
I placed both hands on the clay to make a mold, then submerged both feet in the clay in the same manner.
The clay squished between my toes, giving me an uncomfortable sensation.
But it was necessary for comfortable shoes.
“Thank you. With this, the measurements are complete.”
After wiping off the clay from my hands and feet with a wet towel handed to me, it seemed like the measurements for the items were finished.
“It should be done in about three days. Just come by whenever you have time.”
“Master, you’re too laid-back! Once they’re done, I’ll come and inform you!”
A diligent apprentice providing proper updates in place of a careless master.
Yeah, that’s helpful.
“Yes, please take care of it. Oh, and how much will it cost?”
I was glad to have an idea of the necessary items, but I hadn’t confirmed the crucial matter of payment.
“It’s just a thank you for filling up the magic cauldron. No need for money. Besides, you’re helping by taking Lumia for the gathering.”
“That’s right, so there’s no need for payment.”
When I asked, Saffy and Lumia seemed to have no interest in money at all.
“Huh? No, but I mean—”
“It’s really okay. Please let us help you as a token of our gratitude for always helping us.”
“Alright, I understand. I’m looking forward to it.”
With Lumia’s earnest words, I let go of any lingering hesitation and accepted their offer.
