Kill That Transmigrator Woman - Chapter 13

Chapter 13 – Rabbit Pastry (1)
Cui Wanwan sat down and lightly lifted her eyes to glance around. She saw that more than half the dishes on the table were ones Wei Qingyu liked—only two were dishes she herself enjoyed.
This was differential treatment.
If it had been in the past, her family’s concern and favoritism would have been centered on her.
In her previous life, Cui Wanwan had also found it hard to accept at first, but she never once thought of targeting Wei Qingyu.
She had been the treasured jewel in everyone’s palm since childhood, and then, all of a sudden, she was pushed aside. Back then she had only been a young girl in her teens—of course she found it hard to accept for a time.
But soon enough, she was persuaded by Mother Cui and her elder brother and truly treated Wei Qingyu as her own older sister.
And what did that bring her in return?
False accusations.
She had done nothing at all, but Wei Qingyu’s fall into the water became her fault; the red rash that spread across Wei Qingyu’s face was said to be caused by poison in the scented balm she had gifted—because she was jealous of her elder sister stealing her title of the capital’s number one talented lady, so she acted out of envy. Her spotless name was smeared with filth.
Ling Xun, who had once been her closest friend, looked at her coldly and allowed her to be slandered, choosing to believe Wei Qingyu.
Even her most doting elder brother, because she had “hurt” the woman he loved, lashed out at her with cruel words and led the charge in blaming her.
Her parents, in order to seek justice for their adopted daughter, punished her with the family rod. The heavy beating left her unable to get out of bed for over half a month.
During that time, no one came to visit—except for Wei Qingyu, who swaggered in to show off.
The physician treating Cui Wanwan had been bribed by Wei Qingyu. The ointment she applied didn’t reduce the swelling—instead, her skin festered and ulcerated, and it took a very long time to even begin to heal.
She had always been a girl who loved cleanliness, yet for half a year, her body carried the stench of festering wounds.
The searing pain accompanied her every moment, and the way others pinched their noses and gave her strange looks crushed her pride completely.
This was one of the reasons why, even after being reborn and starting all over again, Cui Wanwan still refused to trust any of them.
Cui Wanwan was like a flower. Before Wei Qingyu appeared, she was cherished in every way. But after Wei Qingyu arrived, those very people who claimed to love and care for her simply let her wither and break, trampled her into the mud, leaving her beyond redemption.
And not a single person reached out a hand to help her.
Having crawled out of hell, Cui Wanwan trusted no one. She believed only in herself.
Now, only Ling Xun was an exception. After spending the past three years journeying with him, she was willing to give him one chance.
Her fingers lightly rubbed the side of the bowl. For the sake of their childhood friendship, and for the sake of the fact that this time Ling Xun hadn’t blindly sided with Wei Qingyu like he did in her previous life, she was willing to take a gamble.
Perhaps after being reborn, some things really could change?
A heart that seemed encased in ice still held a trace of longing deep within.
The first meal after returning home in three years felt to Cui Wanwan like a scene from another life. She ate without any sense of taste, as if she were chewing wax.
On the other hand, Wei Qingyu across from her sat with a smile in her eyes and a healthy flush on her cheeks.
Father Cui, Mother Cui, and even her elder brother Cui Heng—who had doted on her since she was young—all kept picking food and placing it into Wei Qingyu’s bowl.
“Why isn’t little sister eating?” Wei Qingyu smiled as she looked at Cui Wanwan, and smoothly picked up a piece of fish and placed it into her bowl.
It wasn’t meat from the fish’s belly, but from the head. A glaring fish eye sat right there in Cui Wanwan’s bowl.
Cui Wanwan looked down, let out a cold laugh, then picked up the fish head with her chopsticks. With a flick of her wrist, she lightly tossed it to the floor.
“Ah!” Wei Qingyu reacted dramatically, suddenly standing up, her face flushing red, looking at Cui Wanwan in panic and confusion as she began apologizing, “I’m sorry, Sister Wanwan, did I do something wrong? Did I offend you somehow? I’ll accept punishment right away.”
“Enough!” Father Cui’s brows furrowed as he slammed his chopsticks heavily on the table. “What punishment? We’re all one family.”
A flash of smugness and amusement passed through Wei Qingyu’s eyes, but on her face was a look of fright, as if she were terrified that Cui Wanwan might be angry.
“Wanwan.” Father Cui turned to her. “Aren’t you going to apologize to your elder sister?”
Mother Cui also looked displeased. “You’re not a child anymore—why are you still throwing tantrums? You’ve been away just a short while, and already forgotten all of the Cui family’s manners? Look how you scared your sister.”
Cui Wanwan lifted her eyes with no expression, looked calmly at everyone, and said slowly, word by word:
“Father forgets—Wanwan has never eaten fish eyes.”
“And furthermore,” the girl paused for a moment, “I don’t like things that have been touched by someone else’s saliva.”
Everyone in the Cui family knew that the second young miss had a cleanliness obsession—her love of cleanliness was extreme.
Father Cui’s tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly, but he was still displeased. He said, “Yu’er is your elder sister.”
The implication being: even if she didn’t like it, she should endure it for the sake of her elder sister’s dignity.
Cui Wanwan found it funny. So what if she was rebellious and stubborn?
She simply refused to yield, refused to conform.
She was born with pride in her bones, and now that pride had turned into thorns all over her body.
Either she’d die, or go mad—but she would never bow to fate.
“Apologies, it’s my fault—I didn’t know Wanwan had a cleanliness obsession,” Wei Qingyu was the first to break the awkward atmosphere.
“Wanwan, you must be tired after your journey. I personally made some pastries to give you as a proper welcome gift from one sister to another.”
At the dining table, Wei Qingyu waved to the maid behind her, and soon a plate of delicate pastries was brought forward.
The pastries were neither square nor round, but sculpted into clever little rabbit shapes—extremely cute.
Not only did they look appetizing, they were also very visually pleasing.
Cui Wanwan curved her lips into a smile. “Apologies, I was the rude one just now.”
Smiles returned to the faces of those present. They were happy to see the sisters getting along harmoniously and warmly.
“If you like them, hurry and try one—see if they suit your taste?” Wei Qingyu was clearly full of bad intentions. Her face was smiling, but who knew what kind of venom lurked underneath.
This scene had played out in the previous life as well.
Cui Wanwan was allergic to almonds. Because of this, ever since she was young, no almond-related food had ever appeared in the Cui household.
Yet the delicate rabbit-shaped pastries now placed before her were made by Wei Qingyu with a generous amount of almond flour.
In her previous life, unaware of this, Cui Wanwan had eaten two pieces under everyone’s gaze and Wei Qingyu’s expectant eyes.
After that, she broke out in hives all over her body, ran a high fever that wouldn’t subside, and nearly lost her life.
Later, Wei Qingyu had wept so pitifully, tearful and remorseful, begging forgiveness in front of her nonstop. Everyone then forgave her on Cui Wanwan’s behalf, all saying it was an unintentional mistake made in ignorance.
Moreover, Wei Qingyu had seemed deeply regretful and full of self-blame, heartbroken over the suffering her sister endured. If Cui Wanwan, as the younger sister, kept holding onto the matter, she would be called petty and ungrateful, lacking sisterly affection.
Thinking of this, Cui Wanwan lifted a bright smile. “These pastries are really beautiful.”
Wei Qingyu was already getting excited, shouting internally at the system, “Quick! Hurry up and eat it! Best if she ends up bedridden for ten days to half a month—half-dead, now that would be satisfying.”
The system was also clamoring. [Host is the best! Host is so clever!]
Wei Qingyu was going wild inside, but her face still held that gentle smile. “As long as Wanwan likes it. I asked all the servants in the manor to help me blend the flavors you might enjoy.”
“Oh?” Cui Wanwan had just brought the pastry to her lips when her hand suddenly paused, and then she set it down.
“You specifically inquired about my preferences? Then wouldn’t that mean you know exactly what I like, what I dislike, and what I can’t eat?”
“Of course,” Wei Qingyu was so focused on getting Cui Wanwan to eat the pastry quickly that she didn’t think too much about the question. Though she felt a little impatient, she could only respond obediently and brush it off.
Cui Heng laughed, “Yu’er is becoming more and more like a proper older sister, caring so much for her little sister.”
Cui Father and Mother also looked comforted and pleased.
The earlier unpleasantness was completely swept away.
Cui Wanwan’s smile grew even more brilliant. “Then may I ask, Sister, how exactly are these rabbit-shaped pastries made? What is the recipe? After all, I really do like them—they’re so beautiful. If I learn how to make them, I’d love to prepare them for Father and Mother to try someday.”
“Yes, since Wanwan likes them so much, why don’t you teach her, Yu’er?” Mother Cui smiled kindly, nodding with satisfaction at the harmony between the two sisters.
