My Boss, A Clear And Perfect Beauty Who's An Elite Police Bureaucrat, Turns Out To Be My Sweet And Doting Childhood Friend Who Loves Me Dearly At Home. - Chapter 56
Shinichi’s Resolution
“So, will you live with me, Shinichi?”
Maho repeated the question she had asked countless times before. Sometimes jokingly, sometimes happily, sometimes with a serious expression, Maho had asked Shinichi to live with her.
Shinichi had never been able to answer her question. There were various reasons, such as relationships at the police station and the matter of Rikako.
But the biggest issue wasn’t any of that.
Shinichi had been in love with Maho since middle school and high school days. He loved her very much.
And still, for Shinichi, Maho was someone special.
Yet, if he lived with Maho, Shinichi might not be able to control his feelings for her.
He was afraid of that.
However, maybe there was no longer a need to suppress his feelings for Maho. Shinichi realized that.
Maho had shown him affection, wished to live with him, and said he was the most important childhood friend in the world to her.
And she had even given her first kiss to Shinichi.
There was no need for Shinichi to restrain his feelings for Maho.
If he responded to Maho’s feelings and fulfilled her wishes, the ending they both desired awaited them.
Still, Shinichi couldn’t make a decision.
Maho stepped back from Shinichi and looked up at him.
“Is it no good…?”
Maho’s eyes wavered as she gazed at Shinichi.
If they were alone in this room, they were just childhood friends who cared about each other, a young man and woman.
But outside, in the world, there were disparities: Maho, the super-elite, and Shinichi, the plain detective.
Even if he didn’t care about relationships within the police force, could Shinichi really match Maho?
Before responding to Maho’s feelings, that was all he worried about.
“Am I… really worthy to be by Maho’s side?”
“It’s decided. You are my childhood friend, and the boy I chose.”
“Thank you. But…”
“I don’t know what you’re worried about, but… I’m not such a great person. I’ve probably fallen off the fast track to promotion.”
Maho gave a lonely smile. It seemed that being kidnapped during the cash transport truck incident had an impact.
Maho must have worked desperately hard to achieve her current position. She was top of her class in high school and attended the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law.
She also joined the National Police Agency, a popular choice among career bureaucrats, not a job one can get merely by being a University of Tokyo student.
She became a manager in the First Investigative Division, probably because she was expected to, and she might have even become the first female Commissioner-General of the National Police Agency.
Yet, due to an unreasonable fate, Maho was robbed of such a future.
Shinichi seemed too serious about Maho’s feelings, and perhaps because of that, Maho waved her hands in panic.
“Don’t worry so much. Civil servants are evaluated on a demerit system, I’ve come to terms with that… Besides, I have various options.”
“Like what?”
“Well, I could move to a foreign consultancy firm, which would mean a higher salary. Or I could join the family business and aim to be the successor, and since I’ve also passed the bar exam, I could become a lawyer.”
“Really!?”
That was news to Shinichi. He knew Maho was a talented and brilliant student, but he didn’t know she had passed the bar exam in addition to the civil service exam.
Maho puffed out her chest proudly.
“I passed the preliminary bar exam and the bar exam while still in school. I’m good at studying!”
“That feels like an understatement…”
“See? Aren’t I amazing?”
“Incredibly amazing…”
“Thank you. I’d be disliked if I bragged to other people, but I thought Shinichi would accept it…”
Maho looked at Shinichi with a shy, coquettish gaze.
Incredibly talented, beautiful, and from a good family—Maho was flawless. That’s why she was probably envied by those around her, and she held back from making what could be seen as boastful claims.
But in front of Shinichi, Maho was herself, natural. Shinichi was the only man with the privilege of knowing Maho as she truly was.
He was happy about that.
“So don’t worry so much. And, I have something else I want to become.”
“Maho could become anything. You’d surely reach any great position.”
“Thank you. If Shinichi guarantees it, I will surely become it. Because what I want to be is… Shinichi’s wife.”
“Eh?”
When Shinichi froze, Maho chuckled.
“Being a full-time housewife might not be so bad. Supporting Shinichi and living together sounds fun.”
“Maho has so many paths open to her, and I thought working was more what you wanted than being a housewife?”
Maho shrugged her shoulders. Shinichi thought it unimaginable for Maho to become his wife and a housewife.
(Maybe if she were the wife of some high-spec man…)
Thinking this, Shinichi still felt that there must be plenty of more suitable partners for Maho out there.
Men from the same police career bureaucracy, sons of politicians, young men who were successful entrepreneurs…
On the other hand, Shinichi had no status, money, or family background.
As Shinichi pondered this, Maho gently stroked his chest with her finger. Surprised by the ticklish sensation, Shinichi saw that Maho had a serious expression.
“I certainly want to test my abilities. I chose the police because of what happened to Rikako, but I think I can make a difference even outside the police.”
“That’s true. Maho could find the best place to be anywhere.”
“But the best place for me is by Shinichi’s side. I always want to be by your side. I want to live with you.”
Maho’s pleading expression was heartbreaking, her jewel-like black eyes begging Shinichi.
After being told so much, Shinichi had no choice but to answer.
No, Shinichi truly wanted to respond to Maho’s feelings.
Shinichi wrapped his arms around Maho’s back and gently pulled her in. Maho let out a surprised “eh” and blushed.
Her body was so soft and warm… Shinichi wanted to claim Maho as his own once again.
“Shi-Shinichi… wait, wait a minute.”
Maho was flustered, being hugged tightly by Shinichi.
Now it was Shinichi’s turn to take the lead.
“It was Maho who said I could hug her anytime.”
“That’s supposed to mean ‘whenever I want to be hugged’!”
“Maho doesn’t want to be hugged?”
“That’s… I’m happy if Shinichi hugs me, but… it was so sudden I wasn’t prepared…”
While Maho had been in control earlier, hugging Shinichi, now the roles were reversed.
Shinichi took another step forward.
“Maho said she would support me, but I should be the one supporting Maho, right?”
“Eh?”
“Let’s live together, Maho.”
Shinichi whispered quietly into Maho’s ear.
TLN : FINALLY !!!! but if maho doesnt become Superintendent, the titles is not valid then
