“Hey, want to go shopping at the convenience store?”

After I had unconsciously returned to the room, Sumire Murasaki was the first one to speak.

Hearing that, my dazed consciousness sharpened.

“A convenience store? But what time is it?”

“It’s not even 10 pm yet. Let’s go quickly and come back?”

“Uh, okay. But is there something specific you need?”

“I just feel like having some snacks. And we’re out of drinks.”

Looking at the clock, it was 9:30 pm.

I was surprised it was already this late, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it was time to leave.

So, we left the room together and headed to the convenience store.

The streets at night were sparsely populated, especially in this area with few shops around, and there was little light other than the street lamps.

As we slowly walked through the still darkness, the girl beside me suddenly let out a ‘Ah!’ and stumbled forward.

“Whoa, careful!”

Instinctively, my hand reached out to her as she was about to fall.

Just in the nick of time, I managed to grab her hand.

In a rush, I pulled her close, and with the momentum, Sumire’s small head bumped softly against my chest.

“S-Sorry,” she murmured.

I instinctively tried to put some distance between us, but she kept her hand still on my chest.

She continued to hold my hand tightly.

“Thank you, Takizawa-kun. You saved me again.”

“Saved is an exaggeration.”

“No, it’s not. Hehe, I wish we could stay like this forever.”

“Um, well…”

“Just kidding. We should hurry up, right? But, can you keep supporting me like this?”

“Uh, okay.”

Walking on the barely visible night path, she held onto my hand.

Several times, I thought about letting go, but the fear of her stumbling again stopped me.

Our hands remained gently intertwined.

Even though there were no handcuffs binding us, for some reason, I didn’t feel like letting go.

Soon, the lights of the convenience store came into view.
