Chapter 4 PT2 – Rescuing the Little Hen
Su Ran didn’t sleep all night.
The next day, as the morning light rose, he let go of Xue Tuan and stood up to look out the window.
The zombies finally calmed down from their excited state and returned to their respective yards. Some were still standing or wandering in the yard, while others had disappeared, probably hiding and hibernating.
At first glance, everything seemed to be no different from usual. The sudden ejection of those zombies last night was just an accidental burst of power.
But, is it really so?
Su Ran was silent for a long time and went downstairs.
He searched around the house and found that the most handy weapon was still the shovel. The handle was thick and heavy enough, and it could definitely make the zombies’ heads explode with a swing.
Xue Tuan followed him anxiously, constantly circling around his feet, as if trying to stop him.
“I’ll go take a look. If it doesn’t work, I’ll come back. I won’t force my way in.” Su Ran sighed to someone, “…I have to go this time.”
At 8:15, he went out.
Now, even the zombies wandering in the yard have all taken refuge indoors. Su Ran quickly ran through the alley and successfully arrived outside Sister Zhao’s house. After climbing the tree skillfully, he went to check the yard first.
‘——The little hen is still alive!’
‘It’s still in the nest!’
‘Very good!’
Su Ran’s heartbeat quickened a bit, and all the muscles in his body seemed to relax at this moment, and tense up again the next second.
His gaze shifted to the second floor.
Uncle Zhao—well, he didn’t want to call them that anymore. They were not his most familiar neighbors at all, but living viruses and monsters.
From this moment on, he would separate these monsters from the people in his memories.
The zombie on the second floor had a chopstick deeply stuck in the side of its cheek. Perhaps it was the first one among the three members of the family to turn into a zombie. Unfortunately, the person who attacked it with the chopsticks probably did not accurately crush its brain, but was bitten by it instead and became one of them.
“Chopsticks” was pacing back and forth at the head of the bed. It walked stiffly towards the window, bumped into the sofa, and then turned around and walked back like a sweeping robot.
Su Ran lowered his head to observe the situation, his brain working rapidly.
The tree was very close to the courtyard wall, and he could jump over it from the branches and step onto the wall.
But the wall was very narrow, and he would not be able to keep his balance after stepping on it. Fortunately, the house was right in front of him, so he could simply do a two-level jump, use the force to smash the glass window, and flip into the second-floor bedroom. After entering, he would immediately smash the zombie’s head with a shovel.
The difficulty level is very high…but now, since he was here, he had to do it!
Having made up his mind, Su Ran crawled forward for a distance along the branch, then slowly stood up, like a little leopard, keeping his back arched and ready to pounce. He took a few deep breaths, and at the moment when “chopsticks” turned around, he jumped with all his strength!
The wind blew his black hair.
His right foot accurately hit the courtyard wall, and sweat broke out on his back instantly. Without hesitation, Su Ran kicked his legs hard and jumped to the second floor in one go!
‘——You can’t plant trees so close to the house. It’s too convenient to climb upstairs!!’
The moment the shovel shattered the glass, Su Ran didn’t care that the broken glass would cut his palm, and he hooked his hands on the window sill and flipped inward!
A roar came towards him, and smelly saliva flew like raindrops!
He decisively swung the shovel, hit the “chopsticks” on the head, and smashed it against the wall!
The series of noises awakened the other two zombies in the house, and footsteps and roars were heard downstairs.
Su Ran rolled over and rushed to the door, locking it. As he turned around, “Chopsticks” had already scored a second goal and rushed towards him with saliva spitting!
Su Ran kicked it onto the bed, stood up and jumped over, hitting it on the head with the handle of the shovel, knocking it unconscious. He immediately grasped the shovel with both hands and thrust it hard into the guy’s face!
…In an instant, the bed sheets were splashed with smelly liquid and the zombies stopped struggling.
Su Ran was panting.
“Bang”, “Bang”, “Bang” – the sound of banging on the door rang out immediately, and the other two monsters had arrived!
Su Ran jumped out of bed, looked around quickly, and his eyes suddenly lit up.
He ran to the window, dragged the single sofa over, and placed it half a meter away from the door.
Then he ducked behind the couch and reached over to open the door.
With a bang, the door was pushed open, and the first person to rush in was Sister Zhao – well, now he had decided to call her “Afro”.”Afro” suddenly bumped into the sofa and fell forward.
Su Ran immediately hit it twice with a shovel, smashing its head and sending liquid flying!
“Down Vest” followed closely behind, but was blocked by the corpse of its companion. It could only struggle on the spot, desperately grabbing at Su Ran with his two claw-like hands.
Su Ran also swung the shovel and swung it hard!
Its head hit the door frame, and the reaction force made its head bounce back. Before it could come to its senses, another shovel fell on its forehead!
——Bang, bang, boom!
Silence finally fell at the bedroom door.
All that remained was Su Ran’s intense breathing.
A minute later, he pulled out the sofa chair and two bodies fell down.
He… stepped over them, quickly went downstairs and ran into the yard.
Large swathes of sunlight pour down here, and at the corner of the wall is a small wooden house.
The little hen was nestling quietly inside, its two round little eyes reflecting Su Ran who had come into the sunlight.
It stared at him quietly, as if it finally realized the difference between him and the other three “creatures” in the house. It tilted its head slightly, and its fleshy crest trembled.
The next second, Su Ran noticed something jumping on the ground.
After a closer look, his eyes widened.
…Dozens of maggots crawled out from the bodies of the dead chickens and jumped towards him!
The maggots had mutated!!
“Come here quickly!” Su Ran’s scalp tingled and he yelled at the hen!
The little hen stood up, with no eggs under her furry butt.
It stepped out of the chicken coop, spread its wings… and staggered towards Su Ran!
Maggots shot towards Su Ran one after another, following one after another like frogs in the rain forest.
Su Ran quickly retreated, the little hen ran a few meters, and finally flapped its wings and flew up!
Su Ran raised his hands, caught it, held the chicken in his left hand and the shovel in his right hand, turned around, opened the gate of the yard, and rushed out!

The wind was blowing, and the little hen’s heart seemed to be beating rapidly under its fluffy hair.
Su Ran ran all the way to the beach, not daring to look back!
It was not until he reached the beach that he looked back—there were two or three maggots that had followed him all the way here!
Fortunately, before they could jump into the beach, they seemed to have run out of power and fallen to the ground motionless.
Su Ran panted heavily, startled and confused. He stopped and stared at them for a long moment before turning around and carefully walking back to the road…
They immediately arched their backs.
Su Ran made an emergency retreat.
…But they only moved for a moment, and then they were silent again.
Su Ran observed for a few more seconds before slowly letting out a sigh of relief.
These maggots are incredibly mutated, and they die so easily…
He calmed his breathing and weighed the hen, which was lying quietly in his arms, with its head turned, as if gazing at the sea in the distance.
The sea breeze blew, and the fishy and salty smell lingered at the tip of the nose, and there was a gleam in its little eyes.
Suddenly, it stretched its neck.
Su Ran thought it was going to jump down, and was about to put it down, but the little hen opened its mouth and made a soft call – cluck!
Su Ran was stunned.
An indescribable emotion suddenly surged in his chest.
He tightened his arms, lowered his head, rubbed his forehead against its soft feathers, then raised his head and gently stroked its back.
“I’m sorry for leaving you yesterday. You’re safe now. Very safe.”
The hen turned and looked at him.
“Cluck!”
This cry was very joyful.
Su Ran’s nose felt sore and he raised the corner of his lips. Then, guided by some strange intuition, he turned sideways and looked to the front right.
In the distance, on the golden beach, a tall figure stood facing the sea.
He was naked, with black hair falling to his waist.
Waves of sea water rushed onto the shore, covering his bare feet.
He is tall, with well-defined muscles. Just one look at his posture can make one imagine how powerful he is when his muscles are tensed.
Su Ran was stunned.
The legs actually appeared…
The next second, that tall and handsome figure swayed left and right twice, then fell down weakly…
Su Ran: “…………”
