- Chapter 20 - The Fox Host’s Awkward Apology and Oversized Trouble
“Consider that your apology.”
That was definitely not what Yan Jin had planned to say, yet the words came out quickly, naturally.
His gaze was soft, like the still surface of spring water.
“All right.”
After replying, Yan Jin stepped closer to Li Cheng. “I’ll apologize to you on his behalf.”
Li Cheng looked down at his disheveled state and sighed.
“You’re apologizing for him? You’ve really got the nerve to say that.”
He hadn’t been angry before—but now, hearing that, his irritation flared up again.
Yan Jin lowered his head and noticed that the zipper on his pants had been pulled apart and broken.
A flush of red crept across his face. “I…”
Even Yan Jin himself was shaken. He would never allow himself to hurt Li Cheng—
not even if it were the other side of his personality doing it.
“I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
Li Cheng clenched his jaw. Not intentional, huh?
How convenient to have two personalities—
one wreaks havoc, and the other denies it all.
He glared fiercely at Yan Jin, then spun on his heel and stormed out of the room.
His mind kept replaying what had just happened—
utterly terrifying.
He rubbed his eyes hard, forcing himself not to think about it anymore.
To calm his mind, he even started reciting scripture silently to steady his thoughts. (t/n: Li Cheng recites Buddhist scripture—the Heart Sutra—as a traditional way to calm oneself.)
When he reached the first floor, he went straight into the bathroom.
A cold shower—yes, that might help.
But as soon as he was nearly done washing, a new problem arose.
He didn’t have any clean clothes to change into.
Li Cheng hesitated for a while before finally grabbing his phone.
He dialed Yan Jin’s number.
The call connected within a second.
Li Cheng froze for a moment, silent.
He didn’t quite know how to bring it up.
“You don’t have a change of clothes, do you?” Yan Jin’s calm voice came first; he’d heard the sound of running water.
“Mm.” Li Cheng let out an awkward hum.
Then he heard Yan Jin’s quiet laugh on the other end of the line—soft and pleasant. Li Cheng could practically picture the faint curve of his lips.
“I’ll bring you some.” Yan Jin’s tone shifted back to composed.
“Thank you.” Li Cheng hung up immediately after speaking.
The bathroom door was only separated by frosted glass, and that alone made Li Cheng uneasy.
So when Yan Jin knocked lightly on the glass a few minutes later, Li Cheng drew in a deep breath.
He knew the frosted panel didn’t actually let anyone see inside—
but he still felt uncomfortable.
Maybe it was because of what had just happened; it left a shadow over his heart.
Li Cheng cracked the door open just wide enough to slip an arm through.
Then he extended his hand out.
Yan Jin stood there, watching. Droplets of water clung to those slender fingers—long and pale, as if drawn straight out of a comic panel.
He placed the clothes into Li Cheng’s hand. “They’re new, but I think the underwear might be a little big. You’ll have to make do.”
…What???
That was definitely an insult!
Li Cheng yanked the clothes in with a sharp tug, fuming.
“How could they possibly be too big? I wear an XXXL!”
“Oh?” Yan Jin barely held back a laugh.
Li Cheng met his gaze—and suddenly realized—
the force of his earlier tug had pulled the entire door open.
And worse—he had accidentally pulled Yan Jin inside the bathroom too.
!!!!!
Panic hit instantly.
Li Cheng clutched the clothes to his chest and barked, “Get out! Why did you come in?!”
Yan Jin looked genuinely innocent. “You pulled me in yourself.”
His eyes drifted—unintentionally—over Li Cheng’s damp, bare shoulders.
“You’re injured. Can you manage on your own?”
Li Cheng glanced at the stool he’d set up earlier for balance—
he couldn’t get his head wet, and his injured foot couldn’t touch the water either.
So yes, his way of bathing was… rather unconventional.
“No need. Get out.”
“All right.” Yan Jin agreed easily and stepped out of the bathroom like a gentleman.
If it had been Yan Xun, Li Cheng thought bitterly, he would’ve devoured me by now!
He quickly locked the door after him, then finished washing at his own slow pace.
When he looked down at the clothes Yan Jin had brought, he saw a casual white shirt. It wasn’t as formal as it looked—actually rather stylish, perfectly within his taste.
Then he opened the underwear.
His brows furrowed. He clicked his tongue softly.
It was a little big.
But he’d never admit it.
Once he was dressed, he had to keep holding the waistband to stop it from slipping down.
Hmm.
Just barely fit.
When Li Cheng stepped out of the bathroom, Yan Jin was there—with the same doctor from before, the one from the hospital.
He remembered his name—Wen Xingye.
Wen Xingye looked up and smiled politely when he saw Li Cheng walking out in that oversized white shirt.
“Hello, superstar. I’m here on Mr. Yan’s behalf to change your dressings.”
Li Cheng approached the two men, giving Yan Jin a quick glance before turning to Wen Xingye. “Thank you for your trouble.”
Wen Xingye gestured toward the sofa beside him. “Please, have a seat.”
The spot was right next to Yan Jin.
Li Cheng braced himself and sat down anyway.
Wen Xingye opened his medical kit and, within minutes, rebandaged the back of Li Cheng’s head and his ankle.
“Thanks for today.” Yan Jin spoke up, polite as always.
At that moment, Li Cheng couldn’t help noticing just how stark the contrast between Yan Jin and Yan Xun truly was.
If it were Yan Xun, he’d definitely be saying something like: “All patched up? Then get the hell out.”
And as if the universe were listening—Yan Jin’s calm voice followed:
“You can leave now.”
