- Chapter 28 - Fever and Fox Ears
Half a minute later, Li Cheng leaned back slightly.
His face glowed like a rose pressed behind glass—warm and faintly luminous.
He felt weak, his breath hitching as he pushed Yan Jin’s chest. His voice came out broken, breathless.
“My ears… my ears…”
His ears had come out.
Yan Jin glanced up and immediately saw two fluffy fox ears twitching on Li Cheng’s head.
The man who usually looked so sharp and intimidating now seemed impossibly soft—delicate, even.
The kind of beauty that hit straight to the heart.
Yan Jin reached out, gently cupping Li Cheng’s ears in his palms.
“Why did they come out?”
Li Cheng turned his face away, breathing shallowly.
“Because… you kissed me too hard…”
Yan Jin couldn’t help but think how obedient Li Cheng suddenly seemed.
“Then what should we do?” he asked, rubbing Li Cheng’s head and glancing worriedly toward Yang Ming in the living room.
“A c-cold shower will fix it…”
Hearing that, Yan Jin finally understood what Li Cheng meant when he said kissing too hard made his ears appear.
A grin spread across his face as his gaze slid down toward Li Cheng’s waist.
“So just now, you—”
“No!” Li Cheng cut him off immediately.
But before he could react, Yan Jin suddenly scooped him up. Li Cheng instinctively clutched his shoulders.
“What are you doing?”
“Taking you to the bathroom.”
Without another word, Yan Jin carried him out.
Li Cheng hurriedly covered his fox ears, terrified Yang Ming would see them. He buried himself deeper in Yan Jin’s arms.
Yan Jin brought him into a private bathroom and set him gently in the bathtub.
Then he turned on the temperature-controlled water and reached to unbutton Li Cheng’s shirt.
Li Cheng smacked his hand away. “I’ll do it myself. You—out.”
When Yan Jin didn’t move, Li Cheng simply sank into the tub, letting the rising water hide him.
The water rippled softly, filling the quiet with its gentle sound.
Yan Jin braced his hands against the edge of the tub, leaning forward just slightly.
His gaze fixed on the man inside.
The white shirt clung damply to Li Cheng’s skin, translucent in patches, blurring his body into something dreamlike—unreal, beautiful, tempting.
Then, suddenly, a pair of large hands seized the back of Li Cheng’s neck.
Yan Jin’s face loomed closer, filling Li Cheng’s vision.
“You—mm…”
This kiss was rougher, more impatient than the last.
Li Cheng tried to push him away, palms against Yan Jin’s shoulders, but the man felt immovable—as solid as a wall.
In the end, Li Cheng stopped resisting.
He let Yan Jin kiss him until the man finally pulled back, satisfied.
“Little Fox.”
Little Fox?
Li Cheng blinked, glancing around before realizing Yan Jin was talking to him.
He rested one hand on the edge of the tub, just next to Yan Jin’s, and tilted his head toward him, eyes hazy.
“President Yan, you look so proper on the surface, but underneath it all—you’re a beast.”
Instead of getting angry, Yan Jin dipped his hand into the water, testing the temperature.
“You should be grateful,” he murmured, drawing his wet hand back out.
“I couldn’t bear to go further.”
He paused, adding calmly, “Also, the food on my stove is about to burn.”
Li Cheng leaned his cheek against his palm lazily. “And what exactly do you want to do?”
“You know.”
Li Cheng raised a hand, brushing a fingertip along the bridge of Yan Jin’s nose. “You like me, don’t you?”
Thump… thump… thump…
The sound of Yan Jin’s heartbeat filled the space—loud, undeniable. Yet his eyes didn’t waver.
If his heart was pounding that hard, then he’d only move closer.
“What do you think?” Yan Jin asked in return.
“I think it’s worse than just liking.”
“Mm.” He nodded. “A lot worse. It’s terminal.”
Li Cheng let out a soft laugh. “What a shame. So young, and already incurable.”
“Mm…”
Before he could finish the sentence, Yan Jin kissed him again—this time gently, fleetingly, like a dragonfly skimming the water’s surface.
When he pulled back, his voice was low and hoarse.
“So… Little Fox, will you keep me alive?”
His tone wasn’t quite a question—more like a weary demand.
Li Cheng sank further into the water, his body sliding down the tub.
“Foxes don’t heal illnesses.”
“But you can heal me,” Yan Jin said, his eyes dark and unwavering.
Li Cheng didn’t look away, meeting his gaze directly, though he gave no answer.
Just then, Yang Ming’s voice shrieked from outside the door.
“Ahhh!! Li Cheng! Your kitchen’s on fire!”
Li Cheng frowned. “That… has nothing to do with me.”
Yan Jin stood, ruffling his hair. “No, it doesn’t.”
“It’s all your fault.”
“Mm. All my fault,” Yan Jin agreed easily.
