- Chapter 32 - “The Morning After”
Li Cheng didn’t know when he had fallen asleep.
It must have been sometime in the middle of the night.
Yan Jin looked at the sleeping figure beside him, took out his phone, and quietly snapped two photos of Li Cheng’s peaceful face. Then, with infinite tenderness, he pulled him into his arms.
The fox tooth ring in his hand gleamed beautifully. Yan Jin admired it like a priceless treasure—he even had the sudden urge to lock it away in a safe just to keep it hidden.
Leaning down, he placed a soft kiss on Li Cheng’s hair. Perhaps he was simply too happy, because he couldn’t sleep a wink all night.
By the time Li Cheng woke up the next morning, it was already eleven.
He woke naturally, blinking sleepily—and realized that Yan Jin was no longer in the bedroom.
The moment he opened his eyes, a dizzy spell hit him.
“Ugh…”
Li Cheng squinted, his whole body aching as if he had been struck by lightning. He immediately summoned A-Keng. Did I get hit by a thunder tribulation?
【…………】
I’m talking to you.
【Fox Host, maybe you should… think about it carefully yourself?】
Still half-asleep, Li Cheng frowned, his expression drowsy and confused. Yesterday…
Yesterday…
The more he thought, the wider his eyes grew. He must’ve blacked out after drinking…
And then…
Then—!!!
“Ah!!! Why didn’t you save me?!” Li Cheng roared out loud.
【I told you not to drink, but you insisted. You can’t blame me now, Fox Host.】
After a pause, A-Keng added cautiously: 【Besides… you were clearly willing. Maybe not entirely sober, but since you can remember it now, that means you do remember… so technically, if we round it up, you were awake enough to—】
What kind of logic is that?!
【You even gave him your Heart-Locking Ring.】
Li Cheng rubbed at the space between his brows.
【And you also—】
His brows knitted even tighter.
【You also said you liked him.】
Li Cheng flopped back onto the bed with a heavy thud, then yanked the blanket up and covered his entire body.
Even his face.
Right now, he wanted nothing more than to move to another planet and start over.
He stayed buried under the covers for a long while.
Then the door opened from the outside.
Yan Jin stepped in, saw the blanket-covered lump on the bed, and walked over to pull the quilt down.
Their eyes met.
One wanted to laugh. The other wanted to cry.
Li Cheng’s hands curled into fists.
Well, great. Completely doomed now.
Forget having a wife in this lifetime!
“Are you hungry?” Yan Jin’s voice was as deep and magnetic as ever, casual yet teasing, the kind of tone that made people want to hear it again and again even in a normal conversation.
“Not hungry!” Li Cheng snapped, sulking.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of his fox ring—now sitting snugly on Yan Jin’s finger.
And he’d even said something ridiculous last night about “making Yan Jin his” first before giving it to him.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got.
But taking it back now? Obviously impossible.
Still, skipping breakfast was definitely out of the question.
“What dishes?” Li Cheng finally gave in, changing the topic. A true hero knows when to bend and when to stand tall.
“All your favorites.”
Li Cheng tried to sit up but found his body so weak he couldn’t even manage it.
He immediately started cursing. “Damn you, Yan Jin!”
Grabbing a pillow, he hurled it straight at him. “You’re a monster!”
Yan Jin didn’t dodge. He just smiled and said, “You’re only realizing that now? Bit late, don’t you think?”
Watching Li Cheng grit his teeth in fury, Yan Jin simply walked over and scooped him up.
Li Cheng didn’t resist. Well—what was the point?
Whatever. It was already done.
Yan Jin carried him to the bathroom, helped him wash up, and even shampooed his hair for him. Then, patiently, he began drying Li Cheng’s damp hair with a blow dryer.
The sound of the dryer filled the air with a steady hum. Yan Jin was gentle, careful, completely focused—so much so that the whole scene looked like a still frame from a warm, domestic comic.
Li Cheng looked up at their reflection in the mirror and glared at Yan Jin. “Wow. Thanks so much for at least not kissing my neck.”
“Mm.” Yan Jin nodded slightly. “You have to go out in public later.”
See? What a perfectly considerate gentleman.
“Do you want me to praise you for that?” Li Cheng shot back dryly.
Yan Jin set down the dryer, cupped Li Cheng’s face in both hands, and said softly, “No need for praise. A kiss would be better.”
Li Cheng snorted. Then, suddenly, he leaned forward and bit down hard on Yan Jin’s neck. Pulling back, he said with a smirk, “You’re welcome.”
Though the bite clearly hurt—his brows drew together—Yan Jin didn’t get angry. Instead, he ruffled Li Cheng’s hair, looking unexpectedly pleased.
“Ding-dong…”
Before Yan Jin could respond to the provocation, a notification chimed from the phone Li Cheng had left on the sink.
He glanced at it—it was a Weibo alert.
A marketing account he followed on his side account had posted something new:
Fantasy blockbuster Catching Demons confirms its male lead! Rising star Li Shen from Huaying Entertainment has officially joined the cast—rumor has it he’s backed by investors. [Click to read more]
After reading it, Li Cheng tossed his phone aside, clearly unhappy.
Noticing the shift in his expression, Yan Jin’s eyes darkened as he cast a cold look at the phone screen.
