- Chapter 35 - “The Jealous CEO and the Fox’s Secret”
“Chengcheng…”
Yan Jin’s voice carried a trace of pleading, his expression one of unbearable restraint—his breaths shallow and drawn-out, thick with a sticky kind of sweetness.
Chengcheng?
Li Cheng practically cringed from how saccharine it sounded.
“I said no, and I meant it.”
Yan Jin leaned down and pulled him into his arms. “Alright then…”
“Then let me take a look.” Yan Jin’s dark eyes glimmered with an unsettling brightness.
“Look… look at what?”
Yan Jin’s lips brushed against Li Cheng’s neck as he inhaled softly, taking in the faint scent of blue lotus that clung to him. He loved that scent—but it was only noticeable when his nose was this close.
“You know what I mean.”
“You smell so good…”
A second later, Li Cheng’s eyes flew open wide, his breath catching sharply as his fingers tightened in reflex.
“You!” His chest rose and fell rapidly.
“Didn’t you say you’d just look?!”
Yan Jin dropped a kiss on his cheek. “I never said that.”
Three days later, the fantasy IP Demon Hunt announced a change in investors.
Now backed by Qian Yue Entertainment—a subsidiary of Tianye Group, one of the top giants in the domestic film industry—the project moved forward without a hitch.
Five days after that, the main cast was confirmed. The drama’s official Weibo account launched, following the lead actors and posting a simple update without photos:
@LiChengFox, @ActorYangMing, @GuoSisi – please look forward to it.
Anyone who knew the industry understood—this was as good as an official announcement.
Li Cheng also received the notice for the first script reading. Wang Qi was so surprised that she called him the moment she heard, showering him with praise.
“You’re amazing, Li baby! I honestly didn’t expect it—you actually landed the role! This is your first time as a leading actor in a prime-time drama. Your national recognition is going to skyrocket!”
Her voice was full of excitement, practically bubbling over with joy.
Li baby, huh? What a jump.
After a short pause, Wang Qi continued:
“You’re working with Director Zhang Qiuming this time. You have to perform well—he’s got incredible resources. If he wants to make someone famous, it’s as easy as flipping a hand.”
Li Cheng pulled the phone slightly away from his ear as Wang Qi’s booming voice carried on. “Yeah, got it.”
“Oh, right!” Wang Qi suddenly remembered. “The dating reality show on Baixing Channel—you still need to record one more week. Once you finish, it’ll line up perfectly with the script reading schedule. Timing’s great.”
Filming for Demon Hunt would start in a month. After the script reading, the director had arranged martial arts training, since it was an S-tier project—everyone involved was treating it seriously.
A dating show, though…
【Fox Host, there’s a side mission that must be completed during the show. We have to go.】
Li Cheng: What kind of side mission?
【Locked for now.】
So it wasn’t optional.
Li Cheng turned to glance at Yan Jin, who was currently signing some documents.
Now that they were officially together—and Yan Jin was his recognized, legitimate boyfriend—Li Cheng hesitated before asking carefully:
“Busy with work?”
Sliding closer, he leaned against Yan Jin’s shoulder. “My manager booked me for a dating show. I’ll need to film for a week.”
Yan Jin’s dark eyes flicked up at him. “You’re not going.”
“You have a boyfriend,” he said seriously. “I’ll get jealous.”
Li Cheng couldn’t help but laugh, raising a hand in mock solemnity.
“I promise I won’t choose anyone. I’ll just be a background character—quiet, harmless. It’s a live broadcast anyway, you can watch the whole thing yourself.”
Yan Jin set down the documents. “Why go at all?”
“Uh.” Li Cheng scratched at the sofa nervously under his stern gaze. “The breach-of-contract fee is thirty million.”
“Don’t go. I’ll pay it for you.” Yan Jin’s tone softened, coaxing.
“Your money doesn’t just fall from the sky. Wang Qi said the show could help my career.” Li Cheng pressed on.
Yan Jin adjusted his glasses with a push of his fingertip—an ordinary gesture that somehow looked sinfully elegant. “You could just quit acting. I’ll take care of you.”
Li Cheng: ………
How could someone make adjusting glasses look so damn attractive? This man was dangerous.
“I’m going.” He declared quickly before he lost his resolve.
Yan Jin’s expression clearly darkened, but seeing how determined Li Cheng was, he didn’t argue.
“Then give me one good reason why you absolutely have to go,” Yan Jin said, his voice soft but firm, as though he needed a satisfying answer.
“I’m going to learn how to make people happy—so I can come back and make you happy.” Li Cheng’s grin was cheeky.
“And I already signed the contract. If I breach it like that, no one will want to work with me again.”
Yan Jin straightened and looked him squarely in the eye. Since he couldn’t win, he raised the stakes. “Keep at least two meters away from anyone of the opposite sex.”
“Fine.”
“And ten meters from anyone of the same sex.”
“…Then how am I supposed to show up on camera?” Li Cheng said weakly.
“Five meters.”
“Yan Jin, you really don’t have much confidence in yourself, huh? None of those guys could ever compete with you.”
Seeing the faint smile tug at his lips, Li Cheng kept flattering him.
“Even if someone were more charming, they wouldn’t be richer. And if they were richer, they wouldn’t be as good-looking. And if they were better-looking, they wouldn’t treat me as well as you do. And even if they did, they couldn’t cook like you. So no, I’m not interested.”
By the time he finished, Yan Jin’s expression had visibly softened.
“You’d better not be,” he murmured, rubbing Li Cheng’s hair affectionately.
His throat rumbled with a low hum before he added, serious once again, “I just don’t want them making moves on you.”
“And those shows always have scripts. They’ll definitely try to pair you up with someone for hype. Even if you don’t agree, they’ll edit it that way.”
Li Cheng chuckled. “Didn’t expect you to know the industry so well.”
“Qian Yue Entertainment is the biggest production company in the country. I might not deal with celebrities, but I know how messy the entertainment world is.”
After a short pause, Yan Jin’s gaze softened. “That’s why I don’t want you in it.”
Li Cheng rested his head on Yan Jin’s shoulder. “Once I win Best Actor, I’ll quit and let you take care of me.”
Yan Jin gently stroked his hair. “You’re so young and already dreaming about being Best Actor. You know the youngest Best Actor in the country is thirty-five? How long do I have to wait before I get to ‘take care’ of my little fox?”
“Two years. I’ll win in two years, you’ll see.” Li Cheng said with conviction.
“Two years from now, whether you win or not, you’ll quit the industry, alright? I’ll support you.” Yan Jin countered, half-teasing, half-serious.
“Deal.” Li Cheng nodded.
Yan Jin picked up his phone. “Every day after filming, you’ll call, video chat, and text me.”
“Tsk.” Li Cheng snorted proudly. “You’re awfully clingy for a CEO, you know that?”
He turned toward him, removing Yan Jin’s glasses.
“Don’t worry. We foxes only ever marry one mate in our lifetime.”
“You’re the one who’s my wife.” Yan Jin shot back instantly.
By now, Li Cheng had given up resisting that particular argument—especially since Yan Jin’s gentleness was so disarmingly sincere.
“Hey.” Li Cheng waved a hand dismissively. “Same thing.”
“Not the same.” Yan Jin insisted.
“Tsk.” Li Cheng’s lips twitched. “Do you have to argue about everything?”
Yan Jin’s tone carried a strange kind of stubbornness.
“You’re my wife.”
Li Cheng finally caved. “Fine, fine—you win. I’m your wife. Happy now?”
Yan Jin’s eyes gleamed with teasing warmth before he leaned forward and captured Li Cheng’s lips in a deep, lingering kiss.
“Mmph…”
The kiss deepened, slow and intoxicating.
Thirty seconds later—
“Tsk, tsk, tsk… can you two at least pretend to care about your surroundings?”
Yang Ming’s voice broke through as he opened the door and walked out, only to be greeted by the sight of Li Cheng clutching Yan Jin’s glasses in one hand and wrapping the other around his waist—while Yan Jin held him by the back of the neck, kissing him breathless.
Li Cheng pushed Yan Jin away and shot Yang Ming a glare.
“I still haven’t charged you yet. That little scene? Three thousand two hundred. Transfer it to me later.”
Yang Ming’s face darkened as he stepped back. “You really know how to do business, huh, Li Cheng?”
Li Cheng smirked, then suddenly remembered something. “Wait—you’re going to that Baixing dating show too?”
“Oh.” Yang Ming narrowed his eyes. “Yeah, but I’m just a guest commentator for one episode. You’re the one doing the actual coupling. I’m just there to watch the couples.”
He glanced at Yan Jin. “Don’t worry, I won’t pair him with anyone. I’ll make sure to say he’s got zero chemistry with everyone there.”
Li Cheng rolled his eyes. “Didn’t you say you were about to join another crew?”
Yang Ming snickered. “I lied, hehe. Guess we’re fated to be together, huh, Li Cheng?”
Two days later, filming for the dating show was set to begin.
As usual, Yan Jin was the one cooking dinner that evening—but something felt off.
Suddenly, a loud bang! came from the kitchen.
Li Cheng jumped up and hurried over, just in time to see Yan Jin toss the pot aside and rip off his glasses in frustration.
Shit…
Yang Ming blinked, startled, and leaned toward Li Cheng. “Uh, Li Cheng, what’s going on? Why’s Mr. Yan suddenly mad?”
Li Cheng frowned, his expression strange.
If his guess was right…
Then this was—
Yan Xun.
Li Cheng hesitated, then asked through his spiritual link:
Yan Jin’s my boyfriend… so does that mean Yan Xun is too?
(t/n: “Yan Jin” and “Yan Xun” appear to share a body, suggesting a dual personality dynamic.)
