- Chapter 4 - Homeless and Bold
Li Cheng rubbed his forehead.
The original host really was a lovesick fool—never even left himself a backup plan.
After years in the entertainment industry, with a leech of a family still draining him dry, he hadn’t even managed to buy a place of his own.
The apartment in Bojin Wanjue had always belonged to Chen Qiu. Now that Xu Han was back, of course Chen Qiu would want it returned.
As for the original host—he didn’t even have a home.
All that struggle, and not even a nest to call his own.
Li Cheng rummaged through his pockets again and again, irritation rising.
Great. No ID card.
All his belongings were still at Chen Qiu’s place. Don’t even ask why. The answer was simple—he hadn’t wanted to leave, had clung to the man shamelessly.
But Li Cheng had no intention of seeing Chen Qiu now. Xu Han had suffered a loss at his hands earlier today and would definitely go running to complain.
Chen Qiu was probably busy comforting Xu Han at this very moment.
And if he walked in on them “bonding” through dual cultivation again—what an eyesore that would be.
Disgusting anyone but himself was fine, but disgusting himself? Absolutely not.
Tsk.
【Fox Host, why don’t we sleep at an internet café tonight?】 The system’s voice was timid, sensing his frustration.
Li Cheng spat, “You need an ID to stay there.”
【Then… the agency?】
“Closed.”
Leaning against the wall of his room, Li Cheng sighed heavily. His long, dark lashes lifted and fell again. Who would’ve thought a mighty celestial god could end up like this?
He pulled out his phone and scrolled absently. Yan Jin’s Weibo post confirming their “relationship” was still sitting at the top of the trending list.
The studio still hadn’t responded.
And Xu Han’s Weibo post admitting he was the homewrecker—had been deleted!
It had been overshadowed earlier by Yan Jin’s trending relationship post, buried beneath the headlines.
But now? Gone completely.
Li Cheng’s expression darkened. It almost felt like Yan Jin was helping Xu Han.
Could Yan Jin actually be doing this on purpose—to mess with him?
【Fox Host, the reason remains for you to discover yourself. But this world’s difficulty is only two stars. We could pass it just by playing around.】
Li Cheng crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. “So my mission’s complete or not?”
【Mission failed due to external interference.】
Li Cheng’s jaw tightened. “You call that playing around?”
He ground out, “Fine. From now on, I’m calling you Pit—since you don’t even have a name.”
【…As you wish, Host.】
Ugh, whatever. Not worth arguing with a dumb system.
He continued scrolling through Weibo impatiently.
Earlier, Yan Jin’s post had six thousand comments. Now it had over two hundred thousand.
A total circus.
Li Cheng tapped into the comment section, his expression growing darker the more he read.
Li Cheng’s girlfriend outside the circle: Ahhh! I can’t handle it when my idol has a girlfriend! But if it’s a boyfriend—I totally can! Wishing CEO Yan and Cheng Cheng eternal happiness!
User “What Even Is This Name”: No way—is this real? No wonder Li Cheng never had any career ambition. So he really did hook up with a rich heir from Beijing’s elite? Speechless. Public figures should think about their influence. Ugh.
“Manly Men Factory Director Rice Grain”: No way, it’s 2028 and we still have people acting like they’re in the Qing dynasty? Who are you shading, little hater? If you hate him so much, go move to another mountain! [vomit.gif]
“Cheng Will Always Be My Bro”: Don’t listen to the haters below! My Cheng is definitely the top! Like if you agree!
“YanYan’s Not in Showbiz”: Ahhh CEO Yan has a husband now! They look so good together! I shipped them ages ago—can’t believe it’s real! My OTP came true, family! [fanart of Yan Jin kissing Li Cheng]
Li Cheng was logged in on his private account. After reading through the top comments, he gave a like to “My Cheng is definitely the top.”
As he scrolled down, his thumb accidentally hit “refresh.”
When the feed reloaded, the second comment—the one calling him a gold digger—had disappeared.
Just gone.
Li Cheng’s lips pressed together. What was this guy up to? Deleting negative comments now?
He leaned back against the wall, eyes flickering with thought.
Whatever Yan Jin’s motive was, he was in the wrong first.
Li Cheng’s mind quickly spun a plan.
If Yan Jin wanted to play, fine—he’d play along.
Yan Jin had publicly admitted to their relationship, right?
So what if he went and stayed at his “boyfriend’s” place? Perfectly reasonable.
A sly grin tugged at his lips. “Pit, give me Yan Jin’s number—right now.”
【Dialing… waiting for connection.】
For once, the system actually seemed useful. The phone screen showed an outgoing call—his system synced perfectly with his device.
Li Cheng stared at it, waiting.
Half a minute later, the line connected.
“Hello.” The low, smooth voice on the other end carried a hint of curiosity—steady and composed, nothing like the cocky, unruly man he’d met earlier that day.
Li Cheng didn’t bother with pretense. “Where do you live?”
“May I ask who’s calling?” The tone remained polite—too polite. Hard to connect this voice with the lazy troublemaker from before.
“Your boyfriend,” Li Cheng said, tone flippant yet oddly serious.
Silence.
One second.
Two.
Three.
Ten full seconds.
Li Cheng glanced at the screen—it wasn’t disconnected. Still on the line.
“Since you went public with our relationship,” he said dryly, “shouldn’t you at least make sure your boyfriend’s not homeless?”
This time, the man’s response came immediately, deep and calm.
“Green City Rose Garden Villas, Block A607.”
Li Cheng’s eyes lit up—his plan had worked. His lips curved in triumph. “Then see you soon… boyfriend.”
He hung up before Yan Jin could say another word.
Looking down at the number on his screen, he couldn’t help but smile. Such a nice-looking number deserved a label.
He saved it as: Fake Little Boyfriend.
Then he headed downstairs, putting on sunglasses and a mask, completely covered up so no one would recognize him.
He hailed a cab as soon as he stepped out of the complex.
Sliding into the back seat, he lowered his voice. “Green City Rose Garden Villas.”
The driver, clearly worldly enough to recognize the address, immediately perked up.
“Sure thing, boss.”
About half an hour later, they arrived at the outer perimeter of the high-end community.
The driver slowed, looking hesitant.
“This is as far as I can go, boss. It’s a private area—if you want me to drive in, you’ll need to get the homeowner’s permission.”
He glanced between the ornate gates and Li Cheng.
Li Cheng nearly rolled his eyes. He wasn’t even the homeowner himself—who would vouch for him?
“It’s fine. Not far. I’ll walk.”
“Alright, alright,” the driver said quickly, relieved.
Li Cheng got out of the car and walked toward the entrance—only to be stopped immediately.
A neatly dressed woman in formal attire smiled professionally. “Good evening, sir. Are you here to visit a friend? We’ll need the homeowner’s approval before you can enter.”
Li Cheng gave her an awkward smile. “I’ll give him a call.”
He dialed Yan Jin’s number again.
The call connected instantly—and a voice came from about ten meters behind him.
Low and smooth, with no trace of that earlier cocky drawl.
“Turn around.”
“I’m right behind you.”
