- Chapter 8 - The Night He Changed Back
Akeng couldn’t help thinking: if the Fox Host remembered what he’d said once he fully regained his divine consciousness, he’d probably want to dig a hole in the ground and disappear.
So, the little Fox Host had set his sights on Yan Jin…
Akeng thought a bit more, and realization dawned. Linked hearts between god and spirit.
The little fox liked Yan Jin.
Damn—there was potential here!
After being given medication to induce vomiting and protect the stomach lining at the pet hospital, the little fox was utterly exhausted and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
After paying the bill, Yan Jin held the little fox carefully in his arms as he left.
The veterinarian called out behind him in a rush, “Remember to give it plenty of water!”
“Thank you.” Yan Jin turned his head slightly and replied politely before walking away with the fox.
He placed the little fox on the passenger seat once they got into the car.
Yan Jin was a bit surprised by how calm he was being about all this.
For something this strange, he was oddly composed.
He even felt like he’d seen this fox somewhere before—there was a strange sense of familiarity he couldn’t explain.
He glanced at the little creature beside him and reached out to rub its head.
Looking at the fluffy red fur, he murmured, “I never thought the first passenger in my car would be a fox.”
He paused for a beat, then added lightly, “Or maybe… I should call you little fox spirit?”
The little fox mumbled something in its sleep: “Chirp chirp…”
After Yan Jin brought the fox home, its body wasn’t hot anymore—but it had gone cold.
It was trembling faintly from the chill, burrowing nonstop into Yan Jin’s arms.
[Fox Host, don’t you think your mind is a bit too devious?]
Little Fox: I’m going to sleep with my future wife.
[And so?]
Little Fox: So, if I’m cold, he’ll hold me, and then we’ll sleep together.
[…You really are something else, Fox Host.]
The little fox didn’t respond again, just kept rubbing his soft head against Yan Jin’s chest like a rabbit nuzzling into clover.
Feeling the chill through the fox’s fur, Yan Jin frowned slightly and pulled him closer.
“You’re cold, huh?” His voice was low and rough.
The little fox looked up at him and rubbed against him again.
Yan Jin carried him upstairs, then arranged a soft blanket on the sofa to make a nest.
He gently set the fox inside. “Can you… change back yet?”
If he suddenly changed shape, that little nest would be way too small.
After a moment’s hesitation, Yan Jin decided to just set the fox on the bed instead. Then he took off his jacket.
The little fox peeked through half-lidded eyes as Yan Jin went downstairs—it sounded like he was taking a shower.
When Yan Jin came back up, he was wrapped in a bathrobe, his damp hair clinging to his forehead.
The fox cracked one eye open, then quickly pretended to sleep.
The mattress shifted lightly as Yan Jin climbed into bed.
He didn’t look at his phone or computer—just picked up a book from the nightstand.
Still wearing his glasses, still looking impossibly composed. The book’s title: Economics.
The little fox thought Yan Jin’s scent was incredibly calming. The closer he got, the safer he felt.
So, he jumped—right onto Yan Jin’s chest.
Yan Jin glanced down at the small, fluffy creature. It was ridiculously cute. He rubbed its head.
“You’d better not suddenly change back.”
He didn’t push the fox away, letting it rest comfortably against his chest as he continued reading.
The soft rustle of pages turned into a lullaby. Within minutes, the little fox was sound asleep.
Meanwhile, his mind was slowly clearing. His spiritual energy was almost fully recovered.
And as he slept… he changed back.
He didn’t move away—still curled against Yan Jin’s chest, now in human form.
Feeling the sudden warmth and unfamiliar pressure against his body, Yan Jin froze mid-page.
His hand trembled slightly.
His heart raced.
The fox had changed back.
He was fine.
Yan Jin exhaled deeply, relieved.
Li Cheng’s head rested against his neck, one arm wrapped naturally around Yan Jin’s waist.
He rubbed his cheek against Yan Jin’s chest in his sleep, still unaware.
Yan Jin’s fingers twitched. He looked down at the young man in his arms—his pulse quickened again.
For some reason, he didn’t want to let go.
Then don’t.
Just hold him.
Yan Jin stayed like that, holding Li Cheng, reading for another half hour.
After putting the book down, he picked up his phone and, without thinking, snapped a photo of the sleeping face against his chest.
The click of the shutter snapped him back to his senses.
He stared at the screen, speechless.
What the hell am I doing—taking secret photos now?
He moved to delete it, swiping back and forth several times… but couldn’t bring himself to do it.
This looks… way too wrong.
Finally, he convinced himself with weak logic: Well, it’s already taken. Deleting it would be a waste.
Yan Jin set the phone aside and took off his glasses.
He adjusted Li Cheng’s position, laying him properly down before lying beside him.
He started off facing away, but no matter how he tried, he couldn’t sleep.
Eventually, he turned over—only to find Li Cheng sleeping lightly, face turned toward him.
Their faces were almost touching.
Yan Jin could feel the warm breath against his skin.
He looked at the young man’s perfect, almost inhuman features.
His heart rippled. It felt alive again, like it hadn’t been for years.
It was as if he’d been waiting all this time—for this one person.
As if it were fate.
He’d never believed in love at first sight.
But now… he wasn’t so sure anymore.
He was interested in Li Cheng.
More than a little.
Yan Jin was always deliberate about what he wanted.
He planned, he pursued, and he obtained.
It was the same in business.
If he wanted something—it became his.
And if he wanted someone…
They became his too.
He reached out, curling his fingers, brushing the pad of his thumb against Li Cheng’s face.
A dangerous thought flickered through his mind.
I want to kiss him.
I’ve lost it.
His hand traced along Li Cheng’s cheek again.
If fate had already decided…
Then kissing him now was just getting a head start.
Practice makes perfect, he reasoned absurdly.
Li Cheng’s lips were soft, tinted rose, slightly parted like the petals of a damp rose.
Tempting and delicate.
Yan Jin bent down and kissed him.
His brain blanked out for a second.
A tingling warmth spread from his lips to his fingertips.
He trembled slightly.
Softer than he imagined. Addictive.
He kissed him again.
Then again—this time on the forehead.
Finally satisfied, Yan Jin pulled Li Cheng into his arms and drifted off to sleep.
——
The next morning, when Li Cheng opened his eyes, he found himself lying in Yan Jin’s arms.
This position… looked exactly like a newlywed bride.
He slowly looked up—just as Yan Jin opened his eyes too.
The moment their gazes met, Yan Jin’s expression darkened. He pushed Li Cheng away instantly.
“Get out! Why the hell are you in my bed?!”
Li Cheng narrowed his eyes, recalling last night.
He had changed back into his original form… and then… apparently slept with Yan Jin?!
Was his two-hundred-year-old spiritual form really that naive?!
Fury rose inside him.
Seeing Yan Jin looking so angry only made him angrier.
“What the hell are you yelling for? I should be asking you why I woke up in your bed!”
He stood up sharply, glaring daggers at Yan Jin.
The man’s gaze was visibly burning. “Yan Jin brought you here?”
Li Cheng blinked. “???”
What kind of nonsense was that?
Yan Jin brought me here? Aren’t you Yan Jin?
“Are you out of your mind? Aren’t you Yan Jin?”
“Hmph.” The man sneered, voice dripping with disdain. “Don’t mention him to me. I’m Yan Xun.”
“Yan Xun?” Was this a joke?
Before Li Cheng could respond, a flurry of system alerts flooded his mind.

Listening to the sudden burst of system prompts in his head, Li Cheng’s whole body went tense.
So it’s a dual personality?
Then, thinking back carefully—it must’ve been Yan Xun he met first!
The one who acted like everyone owed him eight million!
Li Cheng sighed internally.
“So… what kind of hell-level mission is it this time?”
