- Chapter 101 - The Fox Host’s Fury
Yuan Zheng’s heart trembled at those words, a faint ache spreading through his deep eyes.
The little fox was angry.
What should he do now?
Ah-Keng’s soft, careful voice echoed in his mind: 【Coax him, Lord God.】
Yuan Zheng’s fingers curled slightly. Back when the little fox had stopped “raising” the little black dragon, he’d tossed the dragon straight into the Demon Mirror of Wrath as if it were some rogue spirit.
At that time, Yuan Zheng’s body had already been weak, and he’d almost lost his life inside that mirror. He’d been nursing his soul ever since.
That heartless little fox—how dare he be angry with him!
“You ungrateful little fox,” Yuan Zheng muttered, his tone quiet but tinged with mild reproach.
【Lord God, Fox Host only threw you into the Demon Mirror because he didn’t know you were a divine beast! Then you recovered and went right to teasing and scaring him—of course he was frightened.】
【And besides, you completely devoured and exhausted him, yet you told him it was a thunder tribulation.】
【Because of that, Fox Host has always confused tribulations with… um, certain other… intimate activities. Last time he even asked me if you’d suffered another thunder tribulation…】 Ah-Keng’s voice grew smaller and shyer as he went on.
【That thunder tribulation—you endured it for his sake, but you never told him.】
Yuan Zheng stared at the tightly closed door and sighed softly. Ignoring Ah-Keng, he asked, “Where is the little fox going?”
【When Fox Host gets angry, he looks for someone to fight.】
Ah-Keng’s voice was almost trembling. He dreaded when Li Cheng got angry—because the usually calm and languid fox turned into someone entirely different.
【He was very angry just now.】
A brief pause, then Ah-Keng hesitated before adding, 【I think… he’s gone after that fox demon.】
Yuan Zheng rubbed at his temples.
What a troublesome little fox.
He’d rather the fox come back and hit him instead.
【Fox Host knows he can’t beat you, Lord God. You’d better go coax him (˃⌑˂ഃ).】
That much was true.
Yuan Zheng knew the little fox probably didn’t like his true form—too fearsome, too intimidating.
So, with slender fingers, he touched his own brow. A faint glow shimmered, and his features shifted into those of Zhou Ci.
He didn’t think this borrowed face compared to even a fraction of his true one—but if the little fox liked it, that was enough.
The moment he stepped outside, his gaze was drawn toward a surge of powerful spiritual energy.
“Courting death,” he sneered.
After leaving the room, Li Cheng had indeed gone to find the fox demon.
The more he thought about being toyed with, the angrier he became.
Even the roadside stones suffered his kicks and punches.
To make matters worse, he thought his system had stopped working—it wouldn’t respond no matter how he called.
Now, he didn’t even need to guess why.
【Host! Host! Where are you going?!】
Just as that thought passed, Ah-Keng’s voice rang out.
Li Cheng paused, his tone flat and icy: “I heard systems are supposed to obey every command from their host.”
【Of course.】 Ah-Keng sounded puzzled by the question.
Li Cheng’s eyes darkened. “Self-destruct.”
【…………】
Ah-Keng’s voice trembled, the mechanical tone breaking with fear. 【(ಥ﹏ಥ) Host—what did you just say?!】
“I don’t need a system that doesn’t treat me like its master.”
【(ó﹏ò。) Host, wuuuh, I didn’t—please don’t make me self-destruct—wuuuh…】
Li Cheng ignored him, focusing instead on channeling his spiritual power to locate the fox demon’s trace.
Meanwhile, the system sobbed pitifully in his ear.
【Host wuuuh… you’re scared of the Lord God, and I’m scared too… please don’t make me explode…】
Annoyed, Li Cheng clenched his fists. Still, the system wasn’t wrong—if he was scared, then poor Ah-Keng was terrified.
No point dwelling on it.
He decided silently: Next time you don’t answer when I call, you’ll know what happens.
【Okay okay okay! I swear—I’ll answer instantly!】
“Where’s the fox demon now?”
【At that same abandoned building as before.】
Hearing that, Li Cheng’s pace quickened.
His figure blurred, leaving only a crimson mist trailing behind him.
When he arrived, he saw the fox demon clutching a small boy—no more than four years old—in one arm, dragging another by the collar.
Both children were crying in terror, their voices shaking.
“Wuuuh… sob sob… help us…”
Li Cheng’s brow furrowed. “Why is that fox demon grabbing human children?”
【He eats them. The evil art he practices requires virginal souls to enhance his cultivation.】
Li Cheng’s expression hardened. He darted forward, landing amid the rubble at the building’s center and blocking the demon’s path.
Seeing him, the fox demon immediately tightened his claws around the children’s necks.
The children cried harder, choking under his grip.
“S-sob… h-help… brother, help us…”
One of them spotted Li Cheng and clung to hope.
The fox demon’s eyes glowed scarlet as he snarled, “You again? Haven’t you had enough? You’ve lost your ninth tail, haven’t you, little fox god? Your divine title’s gone—so what are you now but a stray demon?”
He bared his teeth. “We’re the same kind. Why won’t you just leave me be?”
Li Cheng tilted his head slightly, his eyelids lowering and rising in a lazy arc.
“The same kind?” he said coldly. “You? A filthy gutter-born beast like you dares call yourself my kin?”
His tone was soft, almost casual—but the frost in it made the air drop several degrees.
He took another step forward.
The fox demon’s claws dug deeper into the children’s necks; their cries turned shriller.
“Let them go now, and I’ll make your death a quick one.”
Red spiritual mist swirled around Li Cheng’s hand beneath his sleeve.
Sensing the killing intent, the fox demon panicked. With a snarl, his mouth split open, his face twisting into a half-beast fox visage.
He opened wide—aiming to bite straight into the children’s skulls.
The sight was grotesque, bloodthirsty, obscene.
Li Cheng reacted instantly. Spiritual chains flared from his hand—the Demon-Binding Chain shot forth, striking the demon’s arms.
“Agh!”
The divine energy seared through the demon’s flesh, forcing him to release his grip.
In that instant, Li Cheng looped the chains around the children’s waists and yanked them to safety.
The boys were still crying, but their sobs softened once they were out of danger.
Li Cheng gently patted their heads. “Don’t be afraid. Stand behind me.”
The two sniffled and nodded, pressing close to his back.
“Close your eyes,” Li Cheng said softly. “Big brother will show you a magic trick.”
They exchanged a glance, then obediently shut their eyes.
“Don’t open them until I tell you.”
He flicked his wrist; the chains flared again and lashed toward the fox demon.
Behind him, the boys began counting under their breath.
Li Cheng’s movements blurred. He charged the fox demon head-on, spiritual power crackling around his fists. Every strike was sharp, vicious, and precise—leaving no mercy.
With the Demon-Binding Chain enhancing his attacks, Li Cheng held the upper hand easily.
The demon staggered back, stunned at the fury behind every blow.
Why was this fox god so enraged—so intent on killing him?
When the chains wrapped around his neck, wrists, and ankles, the fox demon finally collapsed, swollen and bleeding.
“We—we had no grudge, did we? Why do this to me?” he rasped weakly.
Li Cheng stepped forward and pressed a boot on his shoulder.
“Even if you become a demon, a fox should never stoop to your cruelty. You forfeit your spirit—and your right to live.”
His tone dripped with disdain.
“I-I was wrong! Please, I’ll stop! I swear I’ll never harm anyone again!”
Li Cheng’s eyes narrowed. “Do you even believe that yourself?”
He lifted two sharp fangs between his fingers—freshly torn from the demon’s mouth.
“Hearts steeped in evil can never crawl out of the abyss.”
Satisfied, Li Cheng pulled out a palm-sized Spirit Capture Pouch and sucked the fox demon’s essence inside.
Throughout the entire process, Ah-Keng stayed silent.
It was too terrified to speak—if it made a sound, its host might shove it into the pouch next.
Li Cheng was terrifying when angry.
Once he was sure the children were safe, he crouched down and said gently, “It’s over now.”
They opened their eyes and saw the sharp fangs resting in his palm.
“What are those, big brother?” one of them asked curiously, touching a fang.
“Trophies.”
According to ancient belief, the teeth of beasts could ward off evil—especially if taken from something more powerful than the spirits they might encounter.
Li Cheng handed each boy one fang. “One for each of you.”
Just as he stood up, a blue laser dot appeared over his chest.
“Don’t move!”
A gruff voice rang out, laced with amusement.
Li Cheng turned his head slightly and saw, about thirty meters away, a man aiming a gun straight at him.
It was Fan Ming, the contracted spirit user.
The red beam of the targeting sight traced over Li Cheng—from throat to chest, then down to his abdomen—hovering over every vital spot.
Li Cheng frowned. So he’d been hiding there all along, and Li Cheng hadn’t sensed a thing.
【Host, he used a demon-tracking suppressor. I couldn’t sense it either—he’s probably been there from the start.】
Only now did Ah-Keng dare to speak again.
Li Cheng’s gaze shifted to the massive boulder behind Fan Ming—large enough to conceal a man.
“Tch.”
He exhaled sharply. He’d told the kids to close their eyes so they wouldn’t see him fight—but that had given Fan Ming the perfect chance to observe everything.
And Fan Ming had seen it all.
Not only had Li Cheng wielded divine chains, he’d also revealed his half-beast form.
The red laser sight glided over his chest again.
Fan Ming’s lips curled into a grin, his eyes gleaming with shock and delight.
“You’re… a demon.”
He laughed softly, almost in disbelief.
“You’re not just any demon, either—you’ve completely taken human form. Even I couldn’t sense you!”
“Ha… ha ha ha… a demon!”
His laughter turned feverish with excitement.
Li Cheng arched a brow, a smile flickering at his lips. “So what?”
He glanced down at the laser fixed on his heart.
“You planning to capture me?”
