- Chapter 92 - The Fox Host Reveals Himself
Zhou Ci let out a scornful laugh. “No need. I’m perfectly fine.”
“Heh…” White Si’s gentlemanly smile didn’t reach his eyes. Hearing the sound of running water from the bathroom only deepened his suspicion.
“Does Mr. Li usually bathe in the middle of the day?” His gaze lingered on the bathroom door, probing.
“Why not?” Zhou Ci crossed his arms. “We were… busy earlier. What’s wrong with washing up afterward?”
He added without the slightest blush, “At my age, having a strong appetite isn’t exactly strange, is it?”
White Si froze for half a beat, caught off guard by the brazenness, then chuckled dryly. “Haha… young people, yes, yes, of course.”
But in the next breath, his tone shifted.
“Mr. Li forgot to sign a document earlier. I’ll wait for him to come out and do it.” His polite smile carried a chill.
Zhou Ci’s mind raced beneath his calm exterior, irritation and anxiety twisting together.
“I’ll sign it for him.” He reached for the document in White Si’s hand.
White Si swiftly pulled it back. “I’m afraid this requires his personal signature, Mr. Zhou.”
Zhou Ci’s expression tightened. White Si, satisfied that he’d set the perfect trap, hid his triumph behind that same smug composure.
He had spent years studying methods for human-beast coexistence—already making considerable breakthroughs.
If Li Cheng truly was a half-beast, then he could extract and analyze his hybrid genes, potentially discovering a way to extend human life.
And with that, White Si would become a legend—forever enshrined in the annals of the False Realm.
The thought sent his blood surging with excitement.
He looked at Zhou Ci with a sly half-smile. “Mr. Zhou, you once told me you suspected Li Cheng was half-beast—that’s why you agreed to the marriage, wasn’t it?”
“Yet the genetic database never received any sample results from you.”
His lips curled higher, tone growing bolder. “So tell me—am I right to suspect you’re harboring a beast?”
Zhou Ci sneered. “I’ve tested him repeatedly. He’s just an ordinary man.”
“An ordinary man?” White Si lifted his chin. “I’ve studied beasts for decades. I can tell at a glance who’s human and who’s not.”
“You rescued him from that beast-run bar. The moment I saw him in the lab, I knew—he’s not simple.”
White Si’s smug certainty made Zhou Ci’s skin crawl.
Zhou Ci’s eyes darkened, his voice dropping to a deadly chill. “Listen to me, White Si. I said he’s human. If you harm him, I swear I’ll destroy you.”
The next second, Zhou Ci grabbed his collar and shoved him back. “Now get out. Immediately.”
Even restrained, White Si’s malicious smile didn’t fade. “The more you say things like that, the guiltier you look.”
His face reddened as Zhou Ci’s grip tightened on his throat. “Zhou Ci, do you dare open the bathroom door and prove it?”
He seized Zhou Ci’s wrist, voice dripping with mockery. “Or is the director of the Weapons Research Division planning to shack up with a beast?”
In the False Realm, love between humans and beasts wasn’t just taboo—it was outright condemned, illegal, and unrecognized by any authority.
Zhou Ci’s fist clenched as he listened to the running water.
If Li Cheng didn’t come out soon, White Si’s doubts would only deepen.
But there was no other choice.
The veins on Zhou Ci’s hand bulged. “You think I’m lying?” His voice was a low growl.
“Or are you using this as an excuse to insult my family?”
His eyes went cold and shadowed, unreadable. “Don’t try to provoke me.”
White Si only smiled harder, twisted satisfaction in his tone. “Zhou Ci, we’ve worked together for years. Your biggest flaw has always been that you can’t lie.”
He glanced around the room. “If I’m right, there’s no one in that bathroom at all.”
His eyes gleamed. “Or maybe there is—something not human. A beast. Perhaps even a rare hybrid.”
With that, he shoved Zhou Ci aside and strode straight toward the bathroom.
“White Si!” Zhou Ci lunged after him.
White Si barely slowed. Zhou Ci caught his shoulder, but he kept moving, excitement and arrogance burning in his chest.
“The more nervous you get, the more you give yourself away, Mr. Zhou.”
Zhou Ci was just about to throw a punch and wipe that smug grin off his face—
But White Si twisted his body, reaching the bathroom door.
His hand closed around the handle—
Locked.
That only confirmed his suspicion.
Zhou Ci stepped forward, menace radiating off him. “You’ve grown bolder, White Si. Seems you’ve forgotten who you’re talking to.”
White Si snorted. “We both serve the highest authority of the False Realm. You’re not my superior, Zhou Ci. I’ve been plenty respectful.”
Then he turned toward the door, tone laced with mock civility. “Mr. Li, I still have a document that needs your signature.”
No reply.
White Si’s smirk widened.
Zhou Ci gripped his wrist, heart pounding. No matter what he did now, there would be cracks in his lie.
White Si reached again for the handle—
And before he could force it open, the door suddenly swung inward.
A young man stood framed in the doorway, water still dripping from his damp hair, the loose folds of his bathrobe clinging to his lean figure.
His eyes were cool, edged with irritation. Beautiful to the point of danger—an allure that seemed to drag the soul closer against its will.
White Si’s pupils trembled violently.
Impossible…
It couldn’t be—
But there he was. Li Cheng stood before him, perfectly human, perfectly composed.
White Si’s triumph collapsed into bewilderment. His expression twisted between disbelief and confusion.
Zhou Ci’s tension eased just slightly. Seeing Li Cheng restored, his chest finally loosened. He met Li Cheng’s gaze, silent understanding passing between them.
Li Cheng looked toward White Si, disdain flickering in his eyes.
His gaze swept over him with cold contempt. Then—without hesitation—he lifted his foot and drove a hard kick into White Si’s chest.
“Ugh—!”
The sound tore from White Si’s throat as he hit the floor.
Before he could recover, Li Cheng stepped forward, planting his heel firmly on White Si’s chest.
White Si gasped, the air knocked from his lungs.
Li Cheng leaned over him, the earlier civility gone without a trace.
What remained was pure dominance—aloof, merciless, a gaze that looked down on him as if he were nothing more than an insect.
His voice was cool as ice. “Dr. White, you’ve crossed a line.”
He pressed down harder, eyes narrowing. “You’ve offended me.”
