Quick Transmigration: Being Myself in Ancient Novels - Chapter 40
Chapter 40 The Deceived Girl in the 1970s: Fake vs. Real Daughter Story (40)
Every time Xiaoxiao said a potential form of address, Chen Zhibin lit up with excitement—especially when she said “Brother Zhibin.” He was so thrilled he immediately pulled her into a kiss.
It took a long while before he let go. Xiaoxiao could feel the physical change in his body and instinctively tried to push him away. It was the middle of the day, and his family was right outside!
Chen Zhibin’s voice was low and husky as he said, “Honey, don’t move. Just let me hold you for a while.”
As he spoke, he held her tighter. Xiaoxiao stiffened, not daring to move a muscle.
After a while, he lowered his head and kissed her again—this time much more gently. It took quite a bit before he finally let her go.
Xiaoxiao patted her flushed cheeks. When Mother Chen called them for lunch, she shoved Chen Zhibin out the door and stayed behind to cool off. Only when she felt her face wasn’t burning anymore did she come out.
What she didn’t know was that her cheeks were still pink and her lips slightly swollen. And since everyone in the household was already married, they all instantly knew what had happened. But out of consideration for her shyness, no one teased her.
Mother Chen did, however, shoot her son a glare.
Chen Zhibin didn’t care at all about his mom’s or sister’s looks. All he could think about now was marrying his wife sooner.
After lunch, the two of them went to buy wedding supplies and loads of fruit candy—bringing their marriage certificate along to show proof. Xiaoxiao had initially wanted to pay, since technically all of Chen Zhibin’s money now belonged to her. But to her surprise, Mother Chen had given him money to cover the expenses.
Xiaoxiao had only one thought: “Seems I really lucked out with my in-laws.” Her mother-in-law was so generous.
That afternoon, they returned to the village. Xiaoxiao and Chen Zhibin personally invited several close families to attend their banquet. As for the rest, she distributed wedding candy.
At the educated youth house, when people heard Xiaoxiao was getting married, they congratulated her warmly as they accepted her candy. Even Feng Qingqing, Wang Meiling, and Lu Chuan refrained from stirring up drama.
But then came Wang Xiuxiu.
She suddenly turned to Chen Zhibin and said, “Comrade Chen Zhibin, congratulations on your marriage to Xiaoxiao. Since you two are married now, as her friend, I think there’s something you should know. Xiaoxiao has a bit of a temper. When she’s mad, she tends to hit people. So you’ll need to be extra tolerant and careful not to upset her. As long as you don’t make her mad, she won’t lash out.”
Chen Zhibin raised an eyebrow. Was this woman really trying to “help” Xiaoxiao? Because something didn’t sit right.
Regardless, he certainly had no intention of upsetting his wife.
With a smile, he replied, “Xiaoxiao is my wife. Of course I’d never make her angry. Don’t worry.
And even if she gets mad and gives me a beating, that just means I did something wrong. If hitting me makes her feel better, I’d be happy—as long as she doesn’t hurt herself from being too upset.”
Wang Xiuxiu’s face stiffened. “Well, that’s good then. I just didn’t want you two to have conflicts because of misunderstandings.”
Xiaoxiao replied irritably, “Gee, thanks. We’re doing just fine and won’t be fighting. Besides, he knows my temper. Even if there are disagreements, I trust he’ll give way to me. No need for you to worry about it. You should worry about yourself instead. You’re older than me by a few years and still don’t know when you’ll be able to return to the city. You can’t stay single forever, right?”
Chen Zhibin chimed in, “That’s right. I definitely won’t quarrel with Xiaoxiao.”
Wang Xiuxiu fell completely silent.
After the two left, the rest of the educated youth didn’t say much but exchanged meaningful glances. Wang Xiuxiu could feel their eyes on her and felt completely humiliated.
“I was just trying to help. No one appreciates good intentions these days.”
She tossed out the line and stormed off to her room. Only after escaping their gazes did she realize she might have made a poor move.
She hit her pillow in frustration. Why couldn’t I just control myself?
She had always been jealous of Xiaoxiao. Today, seeing the tall, handsome Chen Zhibin and how well he treated Xiaoxiao, she just couldn’t hold it in.
If it had been someone else, she might not have minded. But Xiaoxiao…
She still remembered how lost and broken Xiaoxiao looked when they first came down to the countryside. Clearly, she’d been abandoned by her family and couldn’t accept it.
Later, Xiaoxiao never once mentioned her family. No one sent her packages or money. In contrast, Wang Xiuxiu always felt she was luckier.
And yet, Xiaoxiao’s life only kept getting better. Now she had a handsome, loving partner, and they were getting married. She’d be moving to the city and wouldn’t have to toil in the fields ever again.
Wang Xiuxiu simply couldn’t suppress her jealousy.
Why her?
She really thought the heavens were unfair.
Back in the compound, others also saw a different side of Wang Xiuxiu. She had always seemed like a diligent, honest girl.
But to say something like that to someone’s husband right after their wedding? If Chen Zhibin didn’t understand and took it seriously, wouldn’t that ruin their marriage?
Everyone became subtly more wary of her.

Back at Xiaoxiao’s house, Chen Zhibin looked around it and couldn’t help saying, “Wife, I haven’t seen the upstairs yet. Aren’t you going to invite me for a tour?”
Xiaoxiao: “…That’s just my bedroom. What’s there to see?”
Chen Zhibin replied, “I want to see it.” I want to understand you more. Besides, you’ve already seen where I live.”
Xiaoxiao: …
Fine. Let him see. She’d already expected this day to come and had packed away anything out of place.
Except… she forgot about her nightdress. And her freshly changed undergarments lying on the bed.
Her face flushed bright red as she rushed to scoop everything up.
Chen Zhibin saw them too, and his ears turned pink.
The atmosphere instantly turned intimate. Xiaoxiao mumbled, “Well, since you’ve seen everything… let’s go downstairs.”
But Chen Zhibin pulled her, and they both tumbled onto the bed.
Lying on his chest, Xiaoxiao felt her heart race.
Chen Zhibin remembered what had happened back at his house earlier. He flipped over, pinning her beneath him.
By the time Xiaoxiao realized her clothes were gone, she gasped, “Wait, it’s the middle of the day, and the downstairs door isn’t closed—”
“I closed it,” Chen Zhibin whispered. “Wife, is it okay?”
They were married, after all. Xiaoxiao was already emotionally stirred, and she found herself wrapping her arms around his neck.
Seeing her silent invitation, Chen Zhibin was thrilled and removed the last bits of clothing between them.
A man and a woman. Newlyweds. Deeply in love. Everything flowed naturally.
“Wife…”
“It hurts…”
Chen Zhibin felt bad too, but at this point, there was no turning back.

Afterward, both of them felt an even deeper sense of closeness.
Their bond had undeniably deepened.
