- Chapter 15 - The Police Cat (15)
Chapter 15:
The fight was satisfying, but afterwards… the trainer roared as he threw the cat and dog into solitary confinement, pointing at them with his face flushed red in anger.
“Look! You’re both official working animals! Do you see what you’ve done?!”
“Fighting! Who taught you to fight?!”
Shen Qiu and Ba Wang stared at each other through the iron bars, each snorting before turning their heads away in mutual disdain.
The trainer clutched his head, looking like he was about to faint.
In the end, they were both punished with one day of confinement and had a week’s worth of snacks taken away.
Shen Qiu’s treats were delicious salmon. Upon hearing hte news, he felt like the sky had fallen.
He was so angry that he meowed loudly in protect and indignantly banged his paws on the ground.
This was clearly a disaster I didn’t cause! Why should my treats be taken away?! This is unfair!
The trainer, already livid, ignored him completely and stormed off without even a glance back.
Shen Qiu felt like the world was hopeless and he turned to glare at Ba Wang with murderous resolve.
I will definitely avenge my week’s worth of salmon. From now on, you and I are sworn enemies. Just you wait!
The solitary confinement lasted until the next day before the cat and dog were finally released.
To prevent another fight, the trainer tethered them far apart: one in the south, one in the north.
Fortunately, Ba Wang was too busy drowning in the sorrow of Guoguo not loving him, and Shen Qiu couldn’t be bothered to pick a fight. Everything looked peaceful on both sides.
The trainer finally breathed a sigh of relief and resumed their training as usual.
Shen Qiu, however, was keeping an ear out for outside news.
He wondered how things were going on Qin Yan’s side and if they had found the body yet.
It had already been two days and if they still couldn’t find it, the corpse might have drifted down the river.
Just as that thought crossed his mind, the wail of police sirens came from outside.
Yang Yue came running, asking the trainer to borrow Shen Qiu.
“There’s something we need Qiuqiu to sniff.”
Shen Qiu sprang to his feet, breaking free of the leash without waiting for permission, and bolted toward the office building.
The trainer, seeing how practiced he was at escaping, felt their vision darken and they almost fainted again.
They reached out to support their forehead, their face full of pain.
Yang Yue patted the trainer’s shoulder sympathetically.
This incredibly smart cat could really make you doubt your own IQ.
Shen Qiu dashed into the hall and ran straight into Lao San and the others carrying a body bag before momentarily freezing.
So they really were dead.
Thinking of the victim’s age, Shen Qiu felt a heaviness in his heart.
But, having been a police officer in his past life, he quickly switched into work mode and followed Lao San and the others into the autopsy room.
No one had slept for the past two days and their eyes were bloodshot. After placing the corpse on the table, Lao San noticed Qiuqiu, picked him up, and patted his head.
“We’ll be counting on Qiuqiu in a bit.”
Before Shen Qiu could understand what he meant, Da Zhuang came in holding a bag, which contained a black coat.
While yawning and looking exhausted, Da Zhuang put on gloves, took out the coat, and set it in front of Shen Qiu.
Shen Qiu sniffed it. The smell of drugs was unmistakable and he lay down in warning.
Da Zhuang rubbed his temples. “Go get the Forensic Doctor, Dr. Zhang. Have him soften the corpses as soon as possible so we can see what they’re holding.”
Shen Qiu was baffled, but after Lao San carried him out, he finally learned what was going on.
It turned out that the corpse they had salvaged this time wasn’t just one body. It was two, tangled together.
No wonder the body bag had looked overly full earlier.
There was one man and one woman. The woman was the victim who had been missing for nine days, while the man’s identity was unknown.
It seemed they had fallen into the river while struggling and neither let the other go, so they were entangled and drowned together.
The bodies had been trapped in a drainage pipe near the river, which was why they hadn’t surfaced all this time.
Their clothes had been sent for testing, but there was still one problem: their hands were tightly clasped together.
Due to prolonged submersion and rigor mortis, the bodies couldn’t soften. He could only vaguely see something in their hands, but it was unclear what it was.
So Qin Yan and the others could only wait anxiously.
Shen Qiu was lying nearby, listening to the entire process with his front paws tucked under his chest as he began to ponder.
A man suddenly appeared.
Was he the one who had lured the victim to the river? What was the relationship between these two individuals?
If they were lovers, why go somewhere so remote to express their love?
If they were enemies, why would the victim go there in the first place?
He thoughtfully licked his fur, but his fur was too long and he got stuck halfway with his tongue hanging in midair.
He let out a couple of tragic meows.
Qin Yan and the others glanced over and immediately burst out laughing.
Shen Qiu: Absolutely humiliating.
Expressionless, he turned around and presented his backside to them. Then, he pressed his fur down with his paws and pretended that nothing had happened.
Yang Yue couldn’t resist scooping him up to give him a hug and a squeeze. “Qiuqiu, you’re too cute.”
Then she buried her face in his belly and took a deep breath.
Shen Qiu shoved her head away forcefully, filled with righteous indignation.
“Meow meow meow!” Can you stop sucking my belly every time?! That’s a shameful spot, okay?!
Yang Yue didn’t understand a word and pried his paws apart, flipping him onto his back on the table to get her fill of cuddles.
Shen “miserably ravaged” Qiu: Forget it. They’re just weird and want to cuddle a cat. The real blame lies in me being a weak, helpless little kitty.
All 25 pounds and 1.2 meters of him thought so.
The atmosphere in the meeting room lightened a little thanks to him.
Qin Yan tapped on the table and resumed the meeting.
“Those of you with any doubts should go back and discuss it among yourselves. Urge the forensic team to speed up as well.
He glanced at the clock. “While we wait, those who can sleep should go back and catch up on some rest. Those who’ve already slept…”
Before he could finish, he was interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Captain, here’s the transcript from the victim’s coworkers. Something’s a bit off.”
“What is it?”
“Over half of them said the victim had been taking calls more frequently lately and had become more withdrawn than before.”
Qin Yan took the statements.
“Dating someone?”
“Yes. Some suspect she’d gotten into a relationship.”
“Then that man might be her boyfriend?” Yang Yue guessed.
Qin Yan furrowed his brows. “It’s possible, but I doubt that’s his only identity.”
However, without evidence, speculation was useless. Shen Qiu yawned.
Clearly, Qin Yan was thinking the same thing. After a pause, he stood up.
“Who’s free to go to the bar where the victim worked?”
“Boss, me!” Yang Yue raised her hand.
“Alright. Go get Qiuqiu’s leash. He’s coming with us, too.”
The moment Shen Qiu heard that, he immediately felt awake.
He jumped off the table and circled Qin Yan’s legs to express his gratitude.

T/N: I’m about to fly home from California, but I typed this out in my hotel room. I really need to work on stockpiling so this doesn’t keep happening. Thank god these few chapters have been short.
