- Chapter 2 - The Police Cat (2)
Drugs! There was no doubt about it! That smell had been carved into his soul!
The only reason he hadn’t noticed it immediately was because a cat’s sense of smell was different from a human’s.
Now that he thought about it, his owner’s yellowed complexion and the strange odor all pointed to one thing: drugs.
Taking a deep breath, Shen Qiu immediately wanted to call the police. But when he raised his paw, he suddenly realized something. He was a cat.
How was a cat supposed to report a crime? Meow into the phone?
More importantly, he needed to find out where his owner had gotten his drugs. Was he only using it, or was he also a dealer?
Clearing his thoughts, he started licking his paws while deep in contemplation.
After a moment, he flicked his fluffy tail and strolled over to the balcony to begin eating his food. He already had a plan.
From that day on, Shen Qiu became extremely clingy. Wherever his owner went, he followed. Even when he went to the bathroom, he would howl at the door if it was shut.
Already not much of a cat lover, his owner soon had enough. One day, before going to the bathroom, he kicked Shen Qiu away with his foot.
Luckily, Shen Qiu was quick and dodged in time. He arched his back, letting out an angry hiss, and bolted away.
His owner cursed under his breath and entered the bathroom.
Shen Qiu’s fur stood on end. Meow meow meow! You’re the one who wanted a cat! Now you’re treating me like this? What’s wrong with you?!
If it weren’t for the drug situation, he would’ve run away already!
Fuming, Shen Qiu crouched by the bathroom door, listening intently.
Before long, a phone rang inside.
A moment later, his owner started speaking. His words were broken up, but Shen Qiu was still able to catch the important parts. In two days, his owner was going out!
His eyes lit up. After bringing home so much, this guy couldn’t possibly eat it all by himself.
From then on, Shen Qiu watched him even more closely.
That afternoon, Shen Qiu was half-asleep when he heard his owner answer the phone again. In an instant, he leaped three meters high, his four legs flailing in the air as he skidded across the floor and arrived right behind his owner.
The man was still talking to the person on the phone.
“Alright, tonight at eight, I’ll meet you guys at Wuyi Alley on South City Road. We’ve got a deal. This time, I’m taking the biggest cut.”
After grumbling for a bit, he added, “All you guys do is provide a vehicle, and every time, you take half. Don’t you have a guilty conscience?”
Unhappy with the conversation, his owner quickly ended the call and turned around to start packing his bags.
Shen Qiu stared dazedly at the phone on the bed.
He had the location of the deal, but how would he get this information to the police?
For the first time since his rebirth, Shen Qiu felt that being a cat had some real disadvantages. If he were some breed of dog, someone might take him to the police station. But as a cat? People would just assume that he was a stray.
Licking his nose, he walked over to the phone.
His owner was still busy in his bedroom. Shen Qiu peeked in, then quietly grabbed the phone with his mouth and carried it to the balcony. He painstakingly used his paw to input the password and opened the map, but his expression collapsed at the sight of the keyboard.
Please tell me, how does a cat type with its paws?
He sighed and, while keeping an eye on the man’s movements, he struggled to type with his paws.
Fortunately, the word “police” wasn’t difficult to type. After noting down the location of the nearest police station, he cleared the search history and carried the phone back.
After doing all that, he began to think about how he could make the police believe a cat. Cats couldn’t talk and had no way to write, so how could he tell the police about the drug trafficking?
He looked around and soon had an idea.
His nose twitched as he stealthily crept into the bedroom. He had previously seen his owner place the black bag into the wardrobe earlier, and inside that bag were the drugs.
Now, it has been placed into a backpack. After looking around to make sure his owner had gone to the bathroom, he jumped into the backpack and started rummaging through it.
When the man came out, Shen Qiu was sitting upright in front of the backpack. The inside of the bag was a complete mess, and the small packets containing white powder were scattered everywhere.
The man’s vision went black with rage. He raised his foot to kick him, but Shen Qiu dodged just in time. Once he was sure the man wasn’t following, he grabbed the small packet hidden behind the curtain and leapt through the crack in the recently opened window.
He was in luck—the police station was just two blocks away in this neighborhood.
Cats didn’t take the normal path, but it wasn’t difficult to find. Hopping over walls along the way, he made it there in no time.
He looked, and the familiar blue uniform and badge made his eyes sting with grief.
However, cats couldn’t cry. The feeling stirred for half a day, but he was still unable to shed a tear. Soon enough, all his turmoil vanished like smoke in the wind.
With a neutral expression, he picked up the small packet in his mouth and entered the police station through the front entrance.
People were coming and going in the lobby, with the police busy focusing on their work. No one noticed a cat, slightly larger than a small dog, sneakily making its way inside the station.
Shen Qiu recalled the layout of the station from his past life. After heading upstairs, he methodically searched door by door.
The Criminal Investigations Unit! He found it!
Shen Qiu’s eyes lit up, and he jumped up, intending to hang on the doorknob. Coincidentally, someone inside opened the door at the same time and Shen Qiu lost his balance, tumbling inside to perform an abrupt brake on someone’s face.
There seemed to be a meeting inside, and many people were stunned by the sight of the cat suddenly barging in.
After a long pause, someone burst out laughing.
“How did this cat get up here? It’s actually pretty nice-looking.”
“Must be a purebred cat. I wonder whose cat got lost and ended up here.”
Shen Qiu casually got off the floor, pretending the crash didn’t happen. He walked past a few people, jumped onto the conference table, and then, plop—he spat out the contents he had in his mouth.
Someone noticed.
“Hey, captain, look! The cat just spat out something. Why does it look so familiar?”
The captain of the Criminal Investigations Unit, Qin Yan, who was the closest to the cat, immediately recognized what the object was at first glance. His expression changed.
“It’s white powder!”
“How did the cat bring something like this here!?”
The conference room instantly buzzed with noise.
Only when Shen Qiu saw that he had everyone’s attention did he sit up properly and let out a meow.
He fixed his gaze on the person who had just spoken, patting the small packet with his paw, then walked over to brush against the person’s arm with his tail before jumping down.
He walked away, turning back to look at them every few steps.
“Uh… Captain, is it just me or does this cat look like it’s trying to lead you somewhere?”
Someone’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Don’t tell me… It’s trying to take us to where this stuff came from!”
The policeman pointed to the packet, doubt written all over his face.
Seeing that they still weren’t moving, Shen Qiu glanced at the clock on the wall.
It was already seven! Any later and they wouldn’t make it in time!
Are you coming or not! Seriously! The evidence has already been delivered to you! Why haven’t you figured out that you’re supposed to follow me!
“Meow Meow Meow!”
In his frustration, he let out a series of frantic meows and also rubbed against the captain’s pant leg.
Though Qin Yan couldn’t quite believe it, it seemed like the cat was really trying to lead him somewhere.
After a moment of consideration, he hesitantly took a step forward to follow.
Shen Qiu let out a sigh of relief and promptly started trotting ahead while Qin Yan swiftly gave out orders.
“Lao San and Da Zhuang, follow me. The rest of you, go investigate this cat’s background. Figure out how it got into the police station, then trace its home and owner.
After finishing his instructions, Qin Yan turned his head and saw Shen Qiu jump onto the hood of a police car.
He froze for a moment, then started to have some doubts.
“Do you really know where you’re taking us?”
“Meow!” Shen Qiu was so anxious that he started hopping around on the hood like he was dancing.

T/N: Chinese sentences are so much chunkier than I thought. One sentence in Chinese is equivalent to about three in English, so I’m getting through the text a bit slowly.
