- Chapter 4 - The Police Cat (4)
Chapter 4:
Qin Yan was startled, thinking the cat was about to do something.
Just as he was about to rush over, he saw the big cat leap up and begin clearing the police dog obstacle course.
Qin Yan paused.
Shen Qiu didn’t stop. After jumping over the first obstacle, he recalled the training routine for police dogs and leaped over each obstacle, one by one.
His form wasn’t perfect, but his completion rate was one hundred percent!
The dog trainer’s eyes widened as they pointed at Shen Qiu, who had stopped in front of a wooden box, and asked Qin Yan, “Are you sure this is a cat? What kind of cat is trained like this?”
The wooden box was also part of the police dog training program and contained a fake bomb.
Shen Qiu sat upright in front of the wooden box and meowed at them, patting the ground with his paw.
“Meow meow meow!” See that?! See that?! Whatever the police dogs can do, I can do too!
The trainer walked over and took the fake bomb out of the wooden box.
“Amazing. It’s really accurate.”
“You’re called Qiuqiu, right? Want to keep looking?”
After saying that, he tried giving Shen Qiu the same command he used for the police dogs.
“Qiuqiu! Search!”
Shen Qiu perked up and immediately started circling the remaining boxes, sniffing each one.
Cats had 20 million more olfactory cells than dogs, so the matter of searching for something was simply effortless. 1
After circling the training ground once, he accurately identified every box containing the fake bombs.
The trainer’s initial amazement turned into a sense of regret, “It’s a pity that you’re a cat. If you were a dog, you could really make a difference.”
Shen Qiu jumped up angrily and kicked the dog trainer.
“Meow meow meow!” What’s wrong with being a cat? Tell me, just what’s wrong with being a cat!? Why can’t a cat become a police cat?! You’re being unreasonable!
However, no matter how angry Shen Qiu got, the concept of a “police cat” simply didn’t exist. Neither the trainer nor Qin Yan considered it a possibility.
To prevent him from causing more trouble in the training area, Qin Yan directly locked him in the dormitory.
The dormitory was not small and was spacious enough for a cat to run around.
But Shen Qiu wasn’t just any cat! His goal was to become a police cat!
How could he train without going outside? How was he supposed to show off his skills and get the police to accept him?
On his first day of confinement, Shen Qiu jumped up and down restlessly in the dormitory.
He knocked the blankets off the bed, swept the cups, pen holders, and notebooks off the desk while vowing to protest to the end.
When Qin Yan and the others returned from their mission, they were greeted by a room that looked like such a disaster that they couldn’t even step foot inside.
Lao San looked at the door number. “This is definitely our dorm. Qiuqiu, what did you do?! You trashed the whole place!”
A big silver-gray cat sat regally atop the upper bunk near the door, looking down at them condescendingly with a noble and cold face.
He licked his paw, then showed off his claws.
“Meow meow meow!” Let me be a police cat! Or else I’ll knife you all! 2
Unfortunately, humans couldn’t understand his threats.
Qin Yan pushed open the door and walked in, standing sternly in front of the bed.
“Qiuqiu, I think it’s time for a serious chat with you.”
The little cat felt a bit guilty and turned his head away, pretending to lick his fur.
Qin Yan directly scooped the cat down from the bed.
Shen Qiu realized what was happening and tried to struggle, but Qin Yan held him firmly.
Qin Yan sat down on the chair with the cat in his arms and turned to Shen Qiu so he was facing him.
“You’re very smart, the smartest cat I’ve ever seen. But you can’t use your intelligence to do whatever you want.”
“I know you’re unhappy about being locked up in the dormitory, but can you promise that you won’t cause trouble if I let you out?”
Shen Qiu’s body stiffened, and his tail flicked back and forth.
He went out to show off his skills as a potential police cat. He could avoid causing trouble, but those police dogs would explode the moment they saw him.
Looking at it this way, it could be seen as indirectly causing trouble.
He flicked his ears and immediately deflated.
Why was it so difficult to become a police cat!?
Qin Yan knew he was listening, so he softened his voice.
“Alright, how about this? Let’s make a deal. You can go play in the back, but you can’t provoke the police dogs. You should not delay their training.”
“If you agree, shake my hand?”
Shen Qiu looked at the large hand extended towards him before hesitantly stretching out his paw.
It’s not… impossible?
Anyway, he would just go out first!
One person and one cat happily made a deal.
After negotiating with Qin Yan, Shen Qiu regained his freedom that night. He toured the entire police station and then went back to the training field.
The police dogs had already returned to their dorms, and the entire training field was now ruled by him alone.
He scanned the area, noticing the surveillance camera facing him on the eaves of the opposite building.
Hmph! I couldn’t come during the day, but I don’t believe they can stop me at night.
It doesn’t matter if there is no one on site, there’s surveillance cameras!
The more people who see his skills, the greater his chances of becoming a police cat!
Mastermind kitty, unlocked!
Shen Qiu warmed up at the starting point like a professional, swinging his body with all his might to ensure the camera caught it.
As soon as the camera was focused on him, he immediately rushed toward the obstacle course.
Shen Qiu’s thoughts weren’t wrong. There were indeed police officers watching the cat, attracted by his actions.
However… no one really thought a cat could be a police cat.
Besides marveling at how smart the cat was and wondering why he wasn’t a dog, no one suggested making Shen Qiu a police cat.
After staying at the police station for three days, Shen Qiu’s wish to become a police cat hadn’t made any progress, but the search to find him an owner had brought results.
The other party was Yang Yue’s best friend, who lived in the neighborhood next to the police station.
Upon seeing Yang Yue’s post on her friend circle, she immediately contacted her.
However, since she was on a business trip, she wasn’t able to come to the police station right away.
After Yang Yue shot a few videos of Shen Qiu showing off his skills at the training field, she decided to adopt him.
She came to the police station to find Yang Yue as soon as she returned from her trip.
Shen Qiu couldn’t believe it! After all his efforts to show off his skills and become a police cat, he ended up being adopted instead!
He heard from Yang Yue how he was chosen by someone.
Shen Qiu: …
He spat out three liters of blood.3
He slapped himself with his paw.
What kind of sin had he committed?!
Shen Qiu’s new owner was a decisive, short-haired young woman. After signing the adoption agreement, she took him home.
Shen Qiu naturally didn’t want to leave, but… it was not up to him to decide.
Once the adoption agreement was signed, Qin Yan had packed up all the things Shen Qiu had used, including his bed and food, before personally taking them to the front gate.
The other members of the Criminal Investigation Team watched as Shen Qiu was taken away by the beautiful young woman, all of them displaying looks of relief on their faces.
This was cause for celebration! The clever cat was finally gone!
They would no longer be smothered by a twenty-catty cat in the middle of the night! 4
There were countless times when they jolted awake at night to a pair of glowing cat eyes. With a bit of music, it would have made the perfect horror movie.
Shen Qiu looked at their expressions and once again extended his claws, his cat face cold and callous.
The desire to kill someone could not be hidden.JPG
1. [I went down a rabbit hole trying to research this, but I have no clue how accurate it is since I can’t find a reliable source to back it up. Take that fact with several grains of salt.]↩
2. [不然我刀了你们!(bùrán wǒ dāole nǐmen) — 刀 actually means knife/sword. It was honestly very funny. I did a double-take and had to double-check that I read it right when I was translating.↩

T/N: This chapter is much shorter compared to chapter 3, so I was able to get it out faster! The next chapter is about 4k characters though, so that will take me awhile. I’m starting to get the hang of translating though!
