- Chapter 21 - Forget Me, Please
【You can disappear through a natural disaster or accident… or choose a more direct method, like dissolving into scattered light particles.】
Just then, Lu Jie, Zhou Yi, and Qi Feng burst out of the auditorium in pursuit.
“Tangtang!”
So many voices called out at once that Ruan Tang couldn’t tell who was speaking anymore.
She slowly turned around, her delicate face still streaked with tears, bathed in golden sunlight that gave her a faint, almost ethereal glow—so beautiful, so fragile, it felt like she might vanish at any moment.
The breathtaking sight etched itself into the hearts of everyone present, destined to become a haunting memory that would ache in the quiet hours of the night.
In her heart, Ruan Tang whispered:
【Tongtong, let me disappear right here, in front of them.】
The system hesitated.
【Isn’t that a little cruel?】
There were other, softer ways—like pretending to go abroad and slowly fading from their lives. That way, the men who loved her could at least imagine she was still alive somewhere, just out of reach.
But this soft, fragile girl looked up with unwavering resolve in her eyes and gave a gentle, sweet smile.
【That’s the only way they’ll forget me. So they can move on and find their own happiness.】
The system paused for a long moment—then gave in.
Though deep down, it knew: the happiness those men sought probably existed only in Ruan Tang.
“Tangtang!”
Qi Feng and Zhou Yi were the first to reach her, still about a meter away.
Lu Jie arrived just a beat later.
But he was the first to notice something was wrong.
His pupils contracted sharply as he rasped, “Tangtang… what’s happening to you?”
The others finally realized something wasn’t right.
Ruan Tang looked like she was being swallowed by the sunlight—her petite figure was fading, the edges of her body dissolving into dazzling specks of light.
Qi Feng’s expression collapsed in horror as he gripped her arm tightly. Her skin, soft and warm under his touch, was slowly disappearing—so insubstantial he could barely hold on.
His breathing grew ragged, eyes blazing red.
“Ruan Tang! Don’t go! Please—don’t leave me!”
Zhou Yi felt as if his heart had been shattered. His voice was nearly hysterical.
“Tangtang! Where are you going? Take me with you, please—I’m begging you, don’t leave me alone!”
Lu Jie was completely panicked. He shoved Zhou Yi and Qi Feng aside and nearly fell to his knees as he reached for Ruan Tang, pulling her fading body into a desperate embrace.
His voice trembled as he pleaded:
“I was wrong, Tangtang. I was wrong. I like you. I love you. I accept your confession—I do! Just don’t go, okay?”
His eyes were bloodshot, tears falling freely and uncontrollably.
“I’m sorry, Tangtang. I shouldn’t have rejected your confession just to keep you from completing your mission…”
If he’d known that failing the mission meant Ruan Tang would vanish from this world forever, he would’ve rather let her leave him—anything but live in a world without her.
Surrounded by the glow of drifting light, the girl in his arms gave a soft, serene smile.
Her lashes were still damp with unshed tears, making her look even more heartbreakingly beautiful.
She spoke quietly:
“I’m sorry.”
The sweet, gentle girl stood there calmly, her eyes sparkling like water, too radiant to look away from.
“Forget me.”
“Goodbye.”
Her soft voice hadn’t even fully faded before her body shattered into a thousand brilliant fragments of light and scattered into the clear blue sky with the wind.
Lu Jie felt the weight vanish from his arms.
The girl he held onto disappeared without a trace. All that was left was empty air and the echo of a name he would never stop calling out in agony and despair.
“Ruan Tang—!!”
After leaving the world, Ruan Tang was granted a short vacation to rest and recharge in the fast-transmigration space.
Half a month later, Tongtong came to check in on her.
There she was, curled up on the sofa in a soft pink bunny-print nightgown, a lollipop tucked between her lips, watching cartoons on a massive glowing screen.
When she saw the system, her face lit up.
“Tongtong! Can we go to the next world now?”
Tongtong’s human form appeared beside her in the fast-transmigration space—a delicate-looking teenage boy, though at the moment he looked utterly exhausted, like someone who had just pulled two straight weeks of overtime.
He croaked, “I’m afraid not.”
Ruan Tang didn’t seem too disappointed.
“So I’m getting an extended vacation?”
She said it like it was a punishment, but her sparkling eyes and delighted smile said otherwise. She was positively glowing with cuteness.
Tongtong didn’t dare tell her the real reason.
“Probably ten more days or so. Just rest for now, Tangtang. If you want anything to eat or do, just let me know.”
“Okay! Thank you, Tongtong!”
After saying goodbye, the system went straight back to work.
Ever since Ruan Tang left that plane, it was supposed to be reset and prepped for the arrival of a new host.
But no matter who the host was, none of the male leads responded.
They shut themselves in their rooms, drowning in grief, clinging to memories of Ruan Tang just to survive.
Forget completing a mission—the new host couldn’t even get close to them.
That resulted in massive plot inconsistencies.
Upper management blamed it on Tongtong’s mission failure and assigned him the full burden of bug fixes.
Which meant: nonstop overtime.
As soon as he returned to work, he got some very bad news.
【Alert! The four capturable characters from plane A23413 have broken away from the world and escaped into chaotic space!】
Tongtong’s mouth twitched.
Who the hell were these lunatics? They could even break into chaos space?
Poor system assigned to this world—no amount of overtime’s gonna fix that mess.
Wait—
A23413?
That number sounded awfully familiar.
Tongtong glanced at the glowing screen in front of him. His current work file was still open, clearly labeled:
A23413.
And the four red markers—representing the four male leads—had all disappeared.
Tongtong’s smile dropped instantly.
“What the actual—!!”
“Done with your overtime?”
Ruan Tang had just finished a strawberry popsicle, her lips gleaming with a soft pink sheen. She blinked innocently at the system.
Tongtong looked completely drained, barely managing to say, “Yeah. We can start the next mission.”
Even though he hadn’t actually finished fixing things.
But there was no point now.
The male leads had escaped the plane, collapsing it entirely.
He’d made a snap decision: return, start a new mission, and use it as cover while he dodged the wrath of upper management.
Ruan Tang reached out and ruffled his hair, giving him a sweet smile.
“You worked so hard, Tongtong.”
The system froze.
That gentle touch on his head—it melted his whole heart.
“Did I make things harder for you?”
Ruan Tang’s voice turned soft and guilty.
“If I were better at this, maybe you wouldn’t have to work so hard…”
Tongtong blurted, “Of course not! It’s those bastards’ fault—”
“Which bastards?” she asked, tilting her head in confusion.
Tongtong slammed the brakes. If she found out, she’d only blame herself more. He couldn’t let her carry that weight.
Besides, his Tangtang didn’t need to worry about such awful things.
“It’s fine! All taken care of. This next world—totally normal, I swear!”
Ruan Tang beamed.
“Mm! I’ve learned my lesson this time. I’ll definitely finish the mission properly!”
“Great. Then let’s go!”
