- Chapter 36 - The Girl in His Arms
“Gege” this, “gege” that—sweet, soft, and sticky as honey. Each word melted like sugar on the ears, and Lu Chengzhou’s anger began to ease just a little.
He lowered his gaze to her, then pointed to his own lips with a slender, pale finger.
“Kiss me here, and I’ll let you go.”
Footsteps were drawing closer by the second, and Ruan Tang didn’t have time to hesitate.
She reached up with her small hands, wrapped her arms around his elegant neck, shut her eyes tight, and leaned in for a quick peck on his lips—then immediately tried to back away, face burning red.
But Lu Chengzhou’s eyes darkened. His Adam’s apple bobbed hard as he grabbed her soft waist, pulling her deeper into his arms.
And then, without warning—he kissed her.
“Mmm…!!”
Ruan Tang gasped. This wasn’t what they agreed on!
The system jolted in alarm.
【!!! What the hell?! Turns out he’s a big bad wolf too!】
Out of the tiger’s den and straight into the wolf’s jaws—what a disaster!!!
Ruan Tang tried her best to push him away, but Lu Chengzhou easily caught her wrists and pinned her against his chest.
His kiss was forceful and possessive, as though he wanted to swallow her whole and fuse her into his very bones.
Meanwhile, just outside the room, a maid was leading a well-dressed young woman down the hallway.
As they walked, the maid chatted amiably:
“Young Master just came upstairs a moment ago, so he should be nearby. When he hears that Miss Bai has come to visit, he’ll definitely be happy—”
Her words cut off abruptly as her eyes landed on the scene ahead.
Even the elegant smile on Miss Bai’s face froze into a stunned expression.
The door was wide open. Inside, a tall, devastatingly handsome man had a delicate young girl pinned against the table, kissing her deeply and without restraint.
The girl was wearing a soft lace dress. His lean, muscular frame pressed tightly against hers, forcing her smooth, pale legs to part slightly. The hem of her dress had slid up, revealing a wide stretch of luminous skin—
—a sharp, shocking contrast against the dark fabric of his suit.
“Ah—Young Master—!”
The maid yelped and quickly turned away, face covered in panic.
She missed what came next.
Miss Bai’s stunned expression slipped, replaced in an instant by a vicious, almost grotesque scowl.
Lu Chengzhou reluctantly pulled back from the kiss, turned, and stepped protectively in front of Ruan Tang, who was panting softly behind him.
His eyes lifted, cold and distant.
“What’s all the noise? Didn’t I say—no guests.”
The maid bowed low, too afraid to look up.
“Miss Bai said she had an appointment—”
Lu Chengzhou scowled, clearly irritated.
“And you believed that liar?”
The Bai and Lu families had been family friends for generations, and Bai Jing—the pampered eldest daughter—had clung to Lu Chengzhou since childhood, insisting she was going to marry him.
Lu Chengzhou found her unbearable and went out of his way to avoid her. In response, she invented excuse after excuse just to get near him.
Most of the household staff already knew better than to let her in.
But this maid was new—and she’d been duped.
“A…a liar?”
The maid’s eyes darted between Bai Jing and Lu Chengzhou, her nerves fraying. Had she made a serious mistake?
Lu Chengzhou waved her off impatiently.
“You’re dismissed.”
The maid fled as though granted amnesty.
But Bai Jing stayed right where she was. She forced a perfect smile back onto her face—though out of sight, her sharp nails were digging bloody crescents into her palm.
“Chengzhou, this girl you brought today… she doesn’t look like the one from last time.”
Lu Chengzhou’s face twisted in disgust. He glared at her, then turned back to gently cover Ruan Tang’s ears with his hands.
“Don’t listen to this liar. You’re the only girl I’ve ever brought here.”
Though the system normally couldn’t stand Lu Chengzhou, it still wouldn’t tolerate others slandering Tangtang’s fiancé.
After all, every man around their precious Tangtang was supposed to be virtuous, well-mannered, and upstanding.
【Tangtang, Lu Chengzhou isn’t lying. He might look a bit flirty on the outside, but he’s never gotten close to any other woman.】
The system had made up its mind: between the two wild tigers over at the Leng house, Lu Chengzhou was the safer bet. Just one wolf here—much easier to manage.
So it added one more positive note.
【I’ve checked his profile. He’s really clean. In fact, he’s never even… ahem, never had a woman before.】
The system’s phrasing was deliberately vague, unsure whether Ruan Tang’s innocent brain could parse the subtext.
But Ruan Tang just tilted her head in confusion.
What did whether he had a woman or not have to do with her?
Why were they both so determined to explain it to her?
She blinked, then chose to ignore all the strange comments, instead tugging at Lu Chengzhou’s sleeve with a flushed face.
“Put me down… this is so embarrassing.”
Lu Chengzhou caught the shy look in her eyes and felt his heart twist again. But with someone else watching, he had no choice but to reluctantly pull back and gently set her down.
Bai Jing watched the entire exchange, hatred practically burning through her irises.
Why?! Why did the man she’d loved for so many years get stolen away by some random girl?!
She had been studying abroad and only rushed back after hearing the news of Lu Chengzhou’s engagement. She hadn’t even adjusted to the time difference before charging straight to the Lu residence.
And this… this was the scene that greeted her.
“Chengzhou, aren’t you going to introduce us?”
Lu Chengzhou didn’t spare her a glance. He took Ruan Tang’s hand and began to lead her away.
Panicking, Bai Jing lunged forward and grabbed Ruan Tang’s wrist—her grip so tight it immediately left red marks on her pale skin.
Lu Chengzhou’s expression turned vicious. He shoved Bai Jing aside with a burst of fury.
“Who said you could touch her?”
Bai Jing stumbled, barely catching herself, and looked up at him with wounded eyes.
“Is she really that delicate? I can’t even touch her?”
Lu Chengzhou examined the red marks on Ruan Tang’s wrist with a tight frown. Once he confirmed the skin hadn’t broken, he exhaled slowly—then turned his gaze on Bai Jing, cold as ice.
“Anyone who hurts her, even slightly—I’ll repay it tenfold.”
His voice was so chilling it sent a jolt down Bai Jing’s spine. The charming, gentle man she’d always known was gone. This version of Lu Chengzhou was like a stranger—cruel and unrecognizable.
She suddenly regretted everything.
Lu Chengzhou’s lips curved into a wicked smile.
“You should be grateful. I don’t hit women.”
Relieved, Bai Jing relaxed slightly.
But then he called over another maid.
“Slap her.”
Bai Jing’s eyes widened in shock. “What?!”
Even the maid was flustered. “Young Master, I—what do you mean…?”
“Don’t understand? Just one slap. I’m already being lenient. Next time—”
His eyes sharpened, voice dropping to a deadly low.
“You won’t want to find out what happens next.”
