- Chapter 64 - Sweet Confusion in the Cave
Ruan Tang was flustered and shy, stammering so badly that she looked impossibly adorable.
From He Lian Zijun’s angle, he could just see the sweep of her long, curled lashes.
They were like a delicate little fan, and every trembling flutter tugged at his heartstrings.
Ruan Tang hurriedly tried to pull her hand free, her panic leaving the corners of her eyes faintly flushed red as though she were about to cry—making her look so pitiful it stirred a cruel urge to bully her.
“TangTang…”
With his uninjured hand, He Lian Zijun suddenly yanked Ruan Tang tightly against his chest.
Unable to suppress the impulse rising in him, his large hand cupped the back of her fragile, slender neck as he pressed a fierce kiss to her lips.
The boy’s technique was clumsy and unskilled.
All he knew was how to foolishly take and take from her soft lips, like a puppy; his sharp little canine teeth even nipped at her lower lip now and then.
That was enough to make the already sensitive girl tremble all over, her strength abandoning her as she went limp in his arms, left to be claimed as he pleased.
They kissed for what felt like a long, long time. Even the fruit candy between them had melted into their mingled lips, spilling out a heady, syrupy sweetness.
Not until the candy dissolved completely did He Lian Zijun finally let go of the nearly breathless girl.
Ruan Tang didn’t even have the strength to rise from him. She lay collapsed against his chest, a soft kittenish whimper escaping her throat.
Her tear-bright eyes and reddened corners carried a dangerous allure, nearly undoing He Lian Zijun all over again.
“S-sorry…”
The boy’s fine-boned face was flushed scarlet. He turned his head away, not daring to look at Ruan Tang directly, his voice hoarse to the point of breaking.
Ruan Tang stayed in his arms for a while longer before she finally, slowly sat up, still dazed.
Pressing her kiss-swollen lips, she pouted, looking aggrieved.
“If you wanted candy, you could’ve just eaten it—why did you have to eat me too…”
The boy froze.
“You thought… I only wanted the candy?”
Ruan Tang tilted her head, her misty eyes round with innocent confusion, naturally exuding a childlike naivety.
“Otherwise, what else?”
He Lian Zijun’s heart skipped again.
The girl before him wore a thin gauzy dress; after their earlier struggle, the neckline had slipped loose, revealing the pale, tender skin of her collarbone and chest, so white it dazzled the eye.
She really was like a soft piece of candy—bite into her, and it felt as though sweetness would overflow.
His Adam’s apple bobbed.
Wasn’t this better than any candy?
“…Yes, I wanted candy.”
He forced the words out.
At that, Ruan Tang plucked another soft candy from her pile of snacks. With nimble fingers she peeled the wrapper, held the piece between her slender white fingertips, and popped it into his mouth.
“If you want to eat, take it yourself. Don’t bite me again—my mouth hurts.”
She rubbed her lip where his sharp teeth had broken the skin, pouting pitifully.
“…Sorry.”
He Lian Zijun was at once guilty, nervous, and secretly overjoyed.
He had thought that since Ruan Tang had married that dog of a prince, she might have already been taught indecent things…
But it seemed she knew nothing of this sort, inexperienced and untouched.
That was too wonderful.
He couldn’t help the laugh that slipped out, while inwardly cursing that dog of a prince: Are you even a man? Hah!
When he noticed Ruan Tang watching him, embarrassment colored his face, and he quickly lifted a hand to hide the smile tugging at his lips.
Ruan Tang only pouted cutely.
Such a grown man, grinning like a child just because of candy.
“Oh, right—Zijun-gege, are you hungry? Do you want some roast meat?” (t/n: “gege” is an affectionate way of addressing an older boy/man, implying closeness and warmth.)
She lifted the skewer of beef she had just grilled and offered it to him.
He Lian Zijun blinked. “Where did roast meat come from?”
“I grilled it myself, of course. If you don’t like beef, there’s pork and lamb too. Tell me what you want, I’ll roast it for you!”
He followed the direction of her finger.
In the corner of the cave was a pile of bizarre items—flashy, colorful packaging and neatly arranged, fresh-looking cuts of meat, along with other appetizing foods.
He Lian Zijun: “…”
After a pause, he asked, “In the middle of nowhere, where did you get all this?”
Ruan Tang answered with perfect seriousness: “It fell from the sky.”
Turning back, she flashed him a sweet smile.
“I prayed sincerely, and then a pile of delicious food fell down for me! Maybe Heaven thought I was too cute to suffer, so it gave me these.”
Her adorableness made He Lian Zijun laugh.
It was true.
Someone this cute might really be blessed by the gods.
They had fallen from such a height, and yet TangTang was unharmed—it must have been divine protection.
He Lian Zijun smiled quietly to himself: Thank you, Heaven.
Because of her, even in danger, their days together felt unexpectedly pleasant.
He even thought this was fine—just the two of them, undisturbed by anyone else.
For her, he would give up his princely identity.
As long as he could remain by her side…
After dinner, Ruan Tang exchanged some points for medicine and walked over to him.
Her voice was soft and sticky-sweet: “Zijun-gege, please take off your pants.”
He Lian Zijun nearly jumped out of his skin, his face instantly burning red, words tumbling out in panic.
“Y-you—you, what are you trying to do!”
Ruan Tang shook the medicine in her hand, her long lashes lifting as she looked at him innocently.
“Change your dressing.”
Only then did he realize his mistake. But the heat on his face refused to subside; flustered, he stammered,
“I-if it’s just changing the dressing, why do I have to, um, take off my pants?”
How misleading was that wording?!
“You’ve got a deep wound on the inside of your thigh. If we don’t change the medicine in time, it’ll scar!”
His eyes widened in shock.
“Then… when you bandaged me before…”
Ruan Tang nodded. “That’s right. You were unconscious, so I just did it myself.”
He Lian Zijun’s heart pounded furiously.
So when he was out cold, Ruan Tang had already… undressed him?
“T-then… thank you…”
He ducked his head, blushing furiously.
Ruan Tang leaned down skillfully to untie his sash.
From his angle, the delicate girl knelt obediently before him, her long lashes casting shadows over her peach-blossom eyes.
Her small, pale hands moved carefully at his waist, each gesture slow and teasing.
His gaze lingered on the soft nape of her neck, her skin gleaming like porcelain. Her hair slid down past her face and spilled across his leg, sending a strange sensation through him.
He couldn’t help but shudder.
