- Chapter 92 - The Vampire in the Dark
Chi Cheng ground his teeth.
Impossible to guard against—this man had actually found such a way to quietly infiltrate Ruan Tang’s life.
If he hadn’t happened to arrive a little later today, wouldn’t he have been kept completely in the dark all along?
There was no way he believed this bastard was here just to attend class.
Most likely, he was abusing some kind of privilege to secretly harass Ruan Tang.
Chi Cheng wanted nothing more than to smash a fist straight into Gu Ming’s face, but with Ruan Tang present, he had no choice but to swallow his rage. He shoved Gu Ming away with brutal force instead.
Then, turning back, he gripped Ruan Tang’s shoulders and warned her in a low, firm voice:
“Tangtang, after class you are not allowed to be alone with him. Understand?!”
His Tangtang was so pure and defenseless—what if she was tricked?
Although Ruan Tang didn’t understand why he was saying this, his tone was so urgent that she could only nod, dazed and hesitant.
But Chi Cheng was still uneasy.
“I’ll just attend the class too—”
Ruan Tang blinked at him in confusion.
“But you still need to rehearse. Go on, don’t worry about me!”
“But—”
A short, mocking laugh cut him off.
Chi Cheng’s eyes snapped toward Gu Ming, furious.
“What the hell are you laughing at!”
Gu Ming tilted his head slightly, his gaze cold and dripping with malice as it landed on him.
“You and Qi Guang really are alike.”
Chi Cheng’s pupils shrank violently.
That was true.
How had he, too, become like Qi Guang—hovering over Tangtang every single day?
He remembered word for word what Ruan Tang had said to Qi Guang that day. Remembered how scornfully he had once looked down on that man.
But now that he himself stood in this position… he couldn’t keep calm either.
Jealousy. Suspicion. Fear of gain and loss.
He was afraid Ruan Tang would be drawn to someone else. Afraid she would leave him. Afraid he would end up just like Qi Guang—abandoned.
—He could not, would not, repeat that mistake.
Chi Cheng’s fist clenched tight, his chest filled with bitterness he could barely suppress. He spoke in a deep, hoarse voice:
“Tangtang, I’ll come pick you up early. Don’t run off after class—wait for me, alright?”
Rehearsal was originally supposed to last until nine.
But he had already decided—he would be there the moment she got out of class.
There was no way he would allow this dangerous man to hover anywhere near Ruan Tang.
Too dangerous.
The bell rang.
At the sound, Ruan Tang waved hurriedly at him.
“Class is starting. Chi Cheng-gege, see you tonight!”
She darted into the classroom.
Gu Ming cast Chi Cheng a cool glance, his lips curling into a mocking smile before he too turned and walked inside.
Chi Cheng clenched his fists, shooting one last venomous glare at Gu Ming before stomping off.
Inside the classroom, the students—having just witnessed a real-life shura field (t/n: from Buddhist cosmology, used here in slang to mean a chaotic love rivalry)—were buzzing with gossip, their eyes darting between Ruan Tang and Gu Ming.
Voices lowered in conspiratorial excitement:
“See? I told you, Gu Ming-xuezhang (t/n: respectful term for an older student) is into Ruan Tang! He’s always staring at her in class, always calling on her to answer questions!”
“Ahhh, what is this—taboo teacher-student romance? I’m shipping it so hard I could die!”
“Cool-ge (t/n: nickname for Chi Cheng, meaning ‘cool guy’) hasn’t even left yet and you dare ship them? Aren’t you afraid he’ll break your legs?”
At the podium, the cold, striking young man rapped his knuckles lightly against the blackboard, his voice crisp and magnetic.
“Class has begun.”
He wore a spotless white shirt, buttoned meticulously to the top, radiating a frigid, ascetic aura.
The chalk rested in his hand—long-fingered, pale, joints distinct—making a vivid contrast against the dark board, like a piece of art.
Thanks to him, hardly anyone dared skip this class.
Even the girls who normally had no interest in lectures perked up, completely absorbed in watching the handsome assistant instructor.
Listening to knowledge flow from those finely shaped lips, even the dullest lessons suddenly became fascinating.
Because Ruan Tang had entered late, the seats near the front were already taken by female classmates eager for a close-up view of Gu Ming. She could only slip into a seat at the back corner.
Tiny as she was, the two tall boys in front blocked her from view entirely.
Having stayed up too late reading last night, she soon rested her head in the shadows of the corner and began dozing.
Half-asleep, she vaguely heard mention of a documentary being played, and the lights dimmed.
The classroom went dark.
She snuggled deeper into her seat, slipping into a more comfortable sleep. She didn’t even notice when someone sat down beside her.
In the unnoticed darkness of the back corner, Gu Ming no longer bothered to conceal his desire. His eyes locked greedily on the sleeping girl.
Light flickered across her delicate profile; her long lashes trembled faintly with each breath.
A strand of hair slid from her shoulder, exposing the pure white curve of her nape, making his throat tighten.
“Mmm…”
Ruan Tang stirred, feeling something cool and damp brushing against her neck.
Wet. Lingering. She thought of a film she’d once seen—where a handsome vampire prince sank his fangs into the heroine’s throat.
At that exact moment, a faint sting bloomed at her neck.
Not a dream! She had really been bitten!
Ruan Tang’s eyes flew open. She was just about to scream—
But lips were instantly covered by a cool, slender hand.
A man’s hot, heavy breaths spilled against her ear.
And then his lips were teasing her sensitive earlobe.
Ruan Tang’s ears were unbearably delicate—just the brush of his mouth made her body go limp. She slumped helplessly against the desk, her pretty face stained with a flushed, alluring red.
Moisture shimmered in her eyes, her teardrop mole at the corner of her eye glistening with dampness, making her devastatingly seductive.
“So cute.”
The man’s low murmur caressed her ear.
That voice—she knew it. It was the same man who had dragged her into that little room to bully her.
He… he was her classmate?
Who was it?
She tried to turn her head, but in the next second, a large hand slid over her eyes.
“If you’re not afraid of being discovered, then go ahead—make a sound.”
His voice was wicked as his teeth grazed her again.
That tender bit of flesh he toyed with reddened like a ripe cherry, glistening as if about to drip juice.
Although he no longer covered her lips, Ruan Tang still dared not utter a word.
Being tormented like this, she knew if she made a sound it would come out as—
Her face burned bright red. She bit her lip hard, eyes welling with helpless tears, lashes trembling wetly as his palm brushed past them.
Gu Ming’s breath caught, his control fraying.
This captivating little thing.
How he longed to devour her whole.
But not here, not now.
The documentary would end soon, and the lights would come back on. Everyone would see.
He would never let his sweet little Tangtang become the subject of idle gossip.
So.
By the time Ruan Tang blinked her dazed eyes, the man at her side had vanished like a ghost—leaving no trace behind.
No trace, save the bite mark burning red on her ear.
(t/n: Gu Ming is technically still a student, but he is acting as a teaching assistant (TA) for this class because his uncle, the actual professor, is unable to teach certain sessions. This allows him to run the class, guide students, and hold temporary teaching authority, which explains why he appears to be “teaching” despite being a student.)
