- Chapter 122 - The Gentlemanly Professor with a Sinister Side (8) Kiss First, Panic Later
“Hey there! Hi, junior! You must be the new finance undergrad Professor Wen’s mentoring, right? I’m Wei Kai, also a Jiang University alum—technically, your senior!”
Wei Kai had come up with an excuse to check out the situation, only to find that President Wen had personally brought along an adorably cute little junior—and now he couldn’t move his eyes away.
Dear heavens above!
She was the ultimate fantasy girl for every homebody guy!
As one of the few Ph.D. candidates under Professor Wen, Wei Kai considered himself to have a strong mentor-student relationship with him. Just a few days ago, Professor Wen had even helped him revise his project proposal personally.
And now, bringing a junior student to the company in person, even instructing him to show her around after a meeting…
Could it be… he was trying to set him up with Junior Su?
Wei Kai, who had already emotionally tethered himself to the adorable junior, felt ready to drop to his knees in gratitude.
A teacher for a day, a father for life. His mentorship was higher than the heavens, deeper than the sea. He could never repay it—not in this lifetime, no way!
Just then, Wen Yuli wrapped up a meeting, not even having time to sip his tea. As soon as he stepped into the office, he saw his project’s team lead—shirking his duties—prancing around like a lapdog, fawning all over his student.
“Wei Kai, what exactly are you doing? You have two minutes to give me a reasonable explanation.”
Wei Kai, who had just served her a cup of floral tea, thought the professor was merely testing his sincerity.
“I’m just doing what you asked—taking good care of her! We visited the R&D department, the design team, the PR office… I even taught her—”
Wen Yuli’s eyes darkened, his voice low and brimming with restrained anger.
“Get out. Half your bonus is gone. And if you bother her again while she’s studying, pack your things and leave.”
“…Huh?”
Only then did Wei Kai realize how pitiful and inappropriate he must’ve looked, circling her like a mutt.
No wonder she hadn’t said a word to him.
Dejected and disheartened, poor wage slave Wei Kai stole one last glance at her, then quietly slipped out of the office.
With the eyesore gone, Wen Yuli wasted no time swooping in, ready to provide some psychological counseling for his clearly mentally-compromised favorite student.
“Reading?” he asked. “Any questions? You can always ask your teacher.”
Su Ci closed the book, accepting the coffee he’d made. The latte art, a pair of swan wings, was precise and flawless—utterly perfect.
“Actually, yes. I’d like to ask… Professor Wen, were you just jealous?”
Wen Yuli nearly lost his composure.
“I can tell you responsibly—no, I wasn’t.”
He took a seat on the other end of the sofa, shadows cast across the noble, cold angles of his face like a traditional ink painting. With a graceful movement, he adjusted the gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose.
“Junior.”
The word rolled off his tongue with a hint of teasing. Then came a scoffing chuckle.
“I’ve told you before—your main goal in college is not dating. It’s self-improvement. Especially someone in your situation—after your family’s downturn.”
“Who knows how many ‘dear juniors’ he’s said that to? Remember, men who cozy up to you don’t usually have pure intentions. You’ve never been out in society. You just don’t get it.”
He casually picked up a small fragrant pear and began peeling it in perfect spirals.
“But it’s okay if you don’t get it. I’ll teach you—personally.”
He then dumped the slightly oxidized fruit platter into the trash, and replaced it with neatly sliced pear and grapefruit, freshly prepared for Su Ci.
As if anything short of perfect wasn’t worthy of being served to his favorite student.
Or maybe… the person who had peeled the fruit was the problem.
“Try it. Is it sweet?”
Su Ci took her fork and tried a piece of each.
“Very sweet. Delicious.”
Wen Yuli’s eyes softened into a smile. The faint mole on his high nose bridge gave his refined features an extra scholarly charm.
“Good. They were imported—cost a fortune. The world rewards those who know how to make smart choices. Su Ci, life is bitter before it’s sweet. Think about that.”
Juice from the ruby grapefruit lingered on her lips, making them look even fuller and rosier.
“But with you, Professor Wen,” she said softly, “it feels like I don’t have to go through any bitterness at all.”
Her eyes curved into a sly smile, like a cunning little fox, as she glanced down at the plate piled high with fruit.
“I don’t even need to peel it myself.”
Clatter—
The starfruit and knife in Wen Yuli’s hand dropped to the floor.
“What nonsense are you spouting? It’s just some fruit.”
He frowned, his tone stern and cold.
“Do you think I’m the kind of man who expects a student to trade their body for a few slices of fruit?”
To be fair, Wen Yuli truly wasn’t that kind of predatory hypocrite.
But Su Ci was.
As he bent to retrieve the knife and starfruit, she leaned forward too—and the next moment, her cool, fruit-scented lips brushed against his frost-bitten cheek, leaving a glistening trace.
His hand, originally reaching for the handle, slipped forward and landed right on the sharp blade.
Because she was so close, he could smell the sweet scent on her skin—and even hear the faint sound of her swallowing.
And then, in her clear and gentle voice, she whispered:
“So sweet. So kissable.”
No hint of guilt whatsoever.
Wen Yuli grabbed the knife and fruit from the ground.
Bright red blood trickled from between his fingers.
He fled the scene in utter panic.
