- Chapter 130 - The Gentlemanly Professor with a Sinister Side (16) The One He Didn’t Choose
Outside the office, Shu Min’s hand hovered over the door, raising and lowering it repeatedly.
She wasn’t here to see Professor Huang because she lost 35 points for being late twice. She was here because her family’s company was on the verge of bankruptcy.
At first, she thought Chen Feng’s company might be able to lend a hand. But for some reason, he’d been noticeably colder toward her these past two weeks.
When they weren’t meeting in person, their chats had become blunt and transactional:
[Room 4608]
[I’ll be there later. I want a new bag.]
Then last night, a close friend pulled her aside and spilled the tea—Chen Feng had been spotted at a club with a group of trust-fund boys, ordering several female hosts for drinks.
Just drinking? Please. Shu Min drank too. Whenever she was in a mood, she’d drop good money to hire handsome male companions too.
But ever since her family business started going downhill and her parents tightened her allowance, she’d been low on cash and hadn’t gone out to party much.
Still, in her eyes, what Chen Feng did counted as cheating.
She only booked those male models because she was upset about her family troubles—she needed comfort.
But Chen Feng? What gave him the right to sneak off with escorts behind her back?
With her looks and body, she could easily have any number of men chasing her.
If it weren’t for Chen Feng’s decent background and halfway decent face, she’d never have agreed to date him in the first place.
Furious, Shu Min had immediately hailed a cab and stormed over to the club—only to overhear this outside the private room:
“Feng-ge, how’s Shu, the campus beauty?”
“Meh. She’s not a virgin. Only looks okay with makeup. You kiss her and get a mouthful of powder. And she’s been using my money to book male escorts. Not worth it.”
“Damn, Feng-ge, your standards are sky-high. If you’re done with her, let the bros have a taste. I’ve never dated a campus belle before.”
Chen Feng swirled the wine in his goblet and chuckled darkly.
“You guys will take anything when you’re desperate. I’m done playing around. Thinking of settling down. Maybe I’ll throw a wedding soon.”
“Whoa, whoa, who is she? Must be some goddess to reel you in like that.”
Chen Feng kicked the guy with a smirk.
“Quit talking nonsense. You wouldn’t know her anyway. She’s a top student in Jiang University’s finance program—Su Ci.”
Shu Min, burning with rage, burst into the room and slapped Chen Feng hard—twice.
Just like that, their relationship imploded. And she didn’t even get a breakup compensation.
Seeing Chen Feng surrounded by pretty girls had pushed her over the edge. She didn’t care how much money she had left—she demanded the club’s top four male escorts on the spot.
Back when the Shu family still had money, she’d been a regular at this club. The manager knew better than to cross her and didn’t press her to pay her now-overdue tab.
The next morning, hungover and groggy, Shu Min went to settle the bill—only to be notified that her card had insufficient funds. When she called her father, she was met with a furious tirade.
Thinking fast, she took the bags Chen Feng had given her to a secondhand shop, hoping to cash out. The store manager gently told her:
“Sorry, Miss Shu. These bags… they’re very convincing replicas. We don’t buy counterfeits.”
Her face flushed red with anger; her blood pressure spiked.
No wonder Wen Yuli hadn’t approved of her dating Chen Feng in her past life.
Turns out he was disgusting, inside and out.
And the name she couldn’t avoid now?
Su Ci, from the finance department.
Her, again.
The rumors swirling around her were endless.
That she was a genius student being courted by not one, but two professors.
That she was the most beautiful girl Jiang University had ever seen.
That she had a special relationship with Professor Wen.
At first, Shu Min had even pitied her—being constantly under Wen Yuli’s control.
But now? She couldn’t help but obsessively track Su Ci’s every move.
She’d even heard from private channels that Su Ci’s family company, Fusu Holdings, wasn’t doing that well either—barely faring better than the Shu family.
And just today, she’d seen Su Ci enter Professor Huang’s office after class.
That’s when it hit her.
Some professors might keep a low profile, but that didn’t mean they lacked connections.
Take Professor Huang, for example. He oversaw several listed companies, and many of his former students had gone on to become high-profile executives.
So that’s why Su Ci had enrolled in his class. Wen Yuli wouldn’t help her, so she turned to Huang.
Shu Min couldn’t help but wonder why she hadn’t thought of that.
If Su Ci could go to Professor Huang for help, why couldn’t she?
Listening in outside the office, Shu Min felt her suspicions confirmed.
But what she didn’t expect was this—
Su Ci actually had the nerve to reject Professor Huang’s kindness and go chase after Wen Yuli instead?!
That cold, uptight, judgmental central air-conditioning system of a man?
What did Su Ci see in him?
Especially considering she, Shu Min, had once deemed Wen Yuli unworthy.
If she hadn’t wanted him, he should’ve stayed unwanted—not picked up like trash by someone else.
She couldn’t take it anymore.
Shu Min kicked the office door open.
Professor Huang adjusted his glasses, expression stern with a hint of displeasure.
“Miss, who are you looking for?”
Shu Min’s aggressive energy instantly deflated. She glanced at Su Ci, the speech she’d rehearsed completely scrambled.
“I—I’m here to warn Su Ci. Wen Yuli isn’t a good person. Don’t be fooled by his looks or money!”
To her surprise, Professor Huang looked pleased.
He thought the same thing. Wen Yuli was vain, competitive, and indulgent—not professor material at all.
A diligent student like Su should stay with a steady mentor like him to truly succeed.
Su Ci turned to Shu Min with a polite smile.
“Thanks for the warning. But I trust my own judgment when it comes to who I love. He’s an excellent professor—and a worthy partner.”
“And thank you, Professor Huang, for your concern regarding Fusu Holdings. But I’ll handle my family’s affairs myself. You needn’t worry further.”
Professor Huang sighed. This girl was as headstrong as ever.
While he and Wen Yuli had practically fought to invest in her, she refused both offers—intent on starting from scratch after graduation, relying on no one but herself.
After Su Ci left, Professor Huang turned to the girl who had barged in.
“What was your name again? You were the one who came in late last time, right?”
Shu Min bit her lip and decided to shift the blame.
“Sorry, Professor. My roommate didn’t wake me on purpose. That’s why I was late twice. It won’t happen again.”
Professor Huang frowned. “What does that have to do with your roommate? Next time, set your own alarm. If you’re late again, you’ll need to retake this course.”
“Understood,” Shu Min said, hesitating before adding,
“Professor, I overheard you were helping Su Ci’s family company. Would you… be willing to help mine too?”
Professor Huang raised a brow, intrigued.
“Your family’s going bankrupt too? So you only showed up to class recently because you wanted my funding?”
Shu Min scrambled to explain. “No! I just—I had no choice… If you can help Su Ci, why not me?”
Professor Huang’s expression darkened.
“Shu Min, it’s not that I won’t help you.”
“But when you barely show up to class, why should I choose you over students who work their butts off every day?”
“Here’s the deal: starting tomorrow, don’t miss a single class. Ace every quiz. Score above 90 on the final. Then I’ll consider it.”
“Consider it?” Again?
He hadn’t made Su Ci jump through hoops like this!
Why did both Wen Yuli and Professor Huang demand things from her? Wasn’t this blatant favoritism?!
“I knew it! All you professors are the same. If you won’t help me, fine! But just wait—I’m reporting you to the education bureau for misconduct!”
Shu Min hurled the words behind her and stormed out without looking back.
Author’s Note:
There might be a bonus chapter tomorrow… depending on how fast this turtle-speed author can type. Fingers crossed for a finale!
Oh, and about the next arc—I was planning to do one about an e-sports player, but there’s some online dating involved and it feels a bit repetitive. Plus, this dumb author only plays Honor of Kings, so I’ll need time to research actual online games to avoid writing anything too embarrassing.
So! New plan: we’re jumping to a zombie apocalypse arc.
Military instructor with a hero complex × a spoiled beauty who trusts him unconditionally.
Su Ci: “So the male lead went from public servant to public menace? Actually… I feel safer already. Even zombie bites are sweet when they come from him.”
We are currently recruiting. CN/KR/JP Translators/MTLers are welcome!
