- Chapter 131 - The Gentlemanly Professor with a Sinister Side (17) When the CEO Asked for Her Hand
Revival Industries had just received olive branches from both Tengda Corporation and Qiongjie Technologies, and Su Bingkun was completely dumbfounded—like he’d just been knocked unconscious by pies falling from the sky.
Everyone knew the man behind Tengda was none other than Huang Shengmin, the powerful mogul with connections all over the business world. A single word from him could shake half the industry.
As for Qiongjie Technologies, it was the rising star of the tech sector—backed by an uncanny vision and formidable R&D capability, which had fueled its meteoric rise.
Su Bingkun had practically given up the struggle. His daughter was grown; he’d made peace with the idea of paying off his debts, retiring quietly, and opening a cozy little bookstore with his beloved wife.
Who would’ve thought that just as all hope seemed lost, fate would throw open another door? Revival Industries wasn’t done for—neither was the Su family’s luck.
Su Hui walked in with a cup of calming tea and a radiant smile. “With a daughter this capable, you must be over the moon. Take a break, you’ve been buried in documents all day.”
Su Bingkun blinked in confusion. “Xiao Ci? You mean she’s involved in this?”
“Of course! Don’t you know Mr. Huang teaches at Jiangcheng University now?”
“I dropped off some food for her the other day, and her roommate told me Mr. Huang praises her in every class—wants her in his graduate program, too.”
Su Bingkun had originally assumed those companies had simply seen Revival’s potential. Now, though, he couldn’t help but wonder: “What about Qiongjie Technologies, then?”
Su Hui beamed, practically glowing with glee.
“That’s the real jackpot. Qiongjie’s backed by Hengguang Group. Now that we’ve gotten in with them, we’re basically their business partner. We’d have to try to go bankrupt now.”
“But why us? Why would a giant like Hengguang want to work with our company?”
Su Bingkun knew Hengguang’s reputation all too well. When they wanted something, they moved fast and ruthless. They didn’t exactly do “mutual benefit.”
Su Hui held up her phone with a teasing smile. “Old Su, give yourself some credit. You’ve got real value. Once we meet face-to-face, the Hengguang CEO will have to raise a glass to you.”
Su Bingkun waved her off. “Yeah right. Who am I compared to President Wen?”
Su Hui leaned in. “Why not? You’re his father-in-law. He’s your son-in-law.”
“???!!!”
“Unbelievable! Two months ago, I couldn’t even get a meeting with Hengguang—and now he thinks he can steal my daughter? Absolutely not!”
“Set up a dinner with him. As her father, I want to vet this man myself!”
—
Elsewhere, Su Ci had just stepped out of the lecture hall when she spotted Wen Yuli’s car parked in the open lot.
He came bearing flowers and gifts as an apology.
“Sorry. Meeting ran late by five minutes.”
Technically, it was one minute and thirty-nine seconds late, but thanks to hitting three red lights, he ended up arriving five minutes later than planned.
Su Ci took the dewy green Scottish roses and, as usual, leaned in for a kiss on the cheek before buckling her seatbelt.
Wen Yuli, flustered but obliging, muttered something about being in public and not causing a scene—while still sneaking a quick peck.
“Do your parents have any preferences?”
The backseat and trunk were loaded with carefully chosen gifts, but Wen Yuli still looked uneasy—after all, he hadn’t exactly behaved like a model future son-in-law, especially considering he’d once muscled in on the father’s turf.
Su Ci tilted her head thoughtfully. “They do.”
“They really like me. So, are you planning to hand me over to them for retirement?”
Wen Yuli kept his eyes on the road and gave a composed, immediate response: “Not a problem. I’ll marry into the family. That way, I can help take care of your parents too.”
Before she could reply, he added: “My parents insist I do, actually. They’ve been bugging me for years.”
He’d never thought 27 was old—until he started spending every day around fresh-faced 18- and 19-year-olds at school, calling her senpai with syrupy voices. He was starting to get a complex.
He’d been thinking about bringing her home to meet his parents soon—at the very least, to set a date for the engagement party.
What Su Ci didn’t know was that he’d already commissioned dozens of custom engagement rings—and still hadn’t picked one he liked enough. Every time he saw a new design, he couldn’t help throwing more money at it.
At a high-end restaurant, Wen Yuli sat across from Su’s father—two composed, imposing men in a standoff. It was clear this was a battle of masculine pride.
“You lured my daughter into a relationship. I expect an explanation, President Wen.”
Su Bingkun was, in some ways, a traditional father. He wasn’t saying teachers couldn’t date, but if there were so many women out there, why his daughter? The age gap alone was seven years. People said even three years was a generational divide—what would two of those be? Could they really be happy together?
Su Ci interrupted, demolishing the setup: “Dad, Mom—it was me. I seduced Professor Wen.”
Wen Yuli might feel guilty. She didn’t.
Su Bingkun frowned. “Don’t defend him, Xiao Ci. You’re still young and naive. But he should’ve known better.”
Wen ‘Old Enough To Know Better’ Yuli: “……”
He let out a quiet sigh and humbled himself.
“You’re absolutely right. I had no principles. I should’ve known better. I admit—I’m older than her. But, sir, you have to admit, age does have its benefits.”
Su Bingkun narrowed his eyes.
“You know, those young men her age—they’re often impulsive, self-important, narrow-minded, too easily tempted by shiny distractions.”
Su Bingkun snorted. “I figured you were still single because you were… lacking. At your age, we already had a kid in kindergarten.”
“You and your wife must have a deep, loving bond.” Wen Yuli replied smoothly.
Su Bingkun’s expression instantly softened. “Naturally.”
Wen Yuli pressed on, building his case while subtly tearing down the competition.
“I have no scandals because I’ve always conducted myself with integrity—for the sake of my future wife.”
“How many of those young guys can support a family like I can? Can they manage a household? Have they seen enough of the world to care for her properly? Are they as dependable?”
Su Bingkun, grudgingly impressed, nodded. “That’s fair. I courted her mother the same way—by being steady and reliable.”
Wen Yuli wasn’t done.
“Worst case scenario—I’m older, so I’ll die sooner. Xiao Ci will inherit everything and become Jiangcheng’s wealthiest woman.”
“……?” said Su Ci.
Clack! went Su Bingkun’s chopsticks on his hand. His face darkened like a thundercloud. “Shut up. You haven’t even married her yet and you’re already talking about widowhood? Eat your damn food.”
Wen Yuli chuckled. “Alright, I’ll be quiet. Dad, tell me how you wooed Mom. I want to learn from the master—need all the tricks I can get to keep chasing Xiao Ci.”
Su Bingkun blushed. “That’s ancient history. Nothing special—just this, then that, and then later…”
The whole meal, he never stopped talking.
After lunch, the mother-daughter duo went shopping. Wen Yuli and Su Bingkun cancelled work to play chauffeur and glorified shopping cart.
The day flew by in laughter and chatter. With Monday classes looming, Wen Yuli promised—again and again—to personally escort Su Ci back to her dorm.
Downstairs, in their usual hidden corner—
The man braced one hand behind the girl’s head, pressing her gently against the cold car door. His breath brushed against her cheek, lips barely touching, teasing.
His scent was clean and faintly spicy, the mood laced with sensual tension, enough to send hearts racing.
“Sweetheart, how much longer until you graduate?”
He nibbled at her earlobe, fingers caressing her flushed cheek. The intensity in his gaze—possessive, hungry—lay hidden beneath his polished exterior.
“It’s been so hard… holding back.”
