- Chapter 146 - The Pure-Hearted Zombie King Who Protects Lone Humans (13))) Making Baby Zombies: A Love Story
“Xiao Liu, do we have guests?”
Lu Yunhe had said he was going to supervise the zombies in the vegetable garden, but after a good while (read: five minutes), Su Ci had no choice but to come out and see what was going on herself.
Ever since becoming a zombie, Lu Yunhe had boundless energy—he could go from dawn till dusk without rest, leading the zombies in rebuilding the damaged parts of the resort.
And at night, without blinking once, he’d stay beside her to lull her to sleep—or heat himself up with scalding water to stay warm through the night, diligently “making baby zombies.”
No matter how obedient he acted around her, at the end of the day, he was still a zombie—and conflict with other humans was always a risk.
Su Ci didn’t want any of the survivors she took in to end up hurt because of him. She also kept an eye on him at all times, never letting him get a chance to harm anyone innocent.
Not because she was especially kind or selfless toward strangers—but because she didn’t want Lu Yunhe to someday regain his memories and live the rest of his life drowning in guilt.
When the approaching figure turned out to be someone she knew, Zhi Han lit up, waving excitedly.
“Su Ci! It’s me and Yu Yang! We didn’t expect to find you and Instructor Lu here—it’s so good to see you both safe!”
Even though… Instructor Lu did seem kind of off.
But that didn’t matter.
What mattered was they were alive. Su Ci looked well-fed, energetic—healthier than either of them, honestly.
Yu Yang had awakened lightning abilities after being attacked. For the past week, he’d been zapping any zombie in sight, and Zhi Han hadn’t gone hungry once.
She hadn’t expected Instructor Lu to be even more powerful—to the point of commanding zombies to work the land…
“Instructor Lu… did you awaken abilities too?”
Zhi Han blinked, eyes glittering like stars. In her mind, their savior had become even more heroic.
Lu Yunhe ignored her completely. The moment he heard Su Ci’s voice, he sprang to her side like a military dog answering a command, gently steadying her.
“Walk slowly. Be careful, baby.”
Zhi Han’s pupils shook.
“B-Baby?!”
How long had it even been?! Not only was Instructor Lu good at staying alive—he was scarily good at being a man, too!
Lu Yunhe stood protectively beside Su Ci, stopping at a tactful distance from the two visitors.
He frowned, voice full of doubt.
“Who’s this ‘Instructor Lu’? Is that the deadbeat ex who abandoned my wife?”
“N-No, Instructor Lu is just—”
He cut her off, annoyed.
“Enough. Doesn’t matter. A man who knocks a girl up and then ghosts her—scum like that disgusts me.”
Zhi Han & Yu Yang: “???”
Su Ci let out a helpless laugh. “Zhi Han, would you two like to come in and rest? There are plenty of rooms—you can stay here for a while. I’ll explain everything.”
If it were other survivors, Su Ci might not have extended the invitation. But she owed Zhi Han a favor for the instant noodles she’d shared before.
After moving into the resort, Zhi Han quickly realized her idea of “living well” had been too shallow.
The table was piled with colorful, aromatic dishes: steamed fish, braised pork, lotus root and pork rib soup, yellow braised chicken, sautéed greens, meatballs… even fresh fruit and drinks!
Zhi Han couldn’t help but swallow hard, sneaking glances toward the man in the kitchen wearing an apron, bustling away.
She whispered, a bit gossipy, “So… Lu—Lu… he really is one?”
How had the once-proper Instructor Lu turned into a zombie?! You couldn’t even tell from the outside!
Su Ci nodded. “He doesn’t remember his past. You don’t need to call him Instructor Lu. ‘Instructor Lu’ belonged to everyone. Xiao Liu is mine alone.”
He had already given his life for his duty.
Now, he deserved to live like any other zombie.
“O-Okay!”
Zhi Han hesitated, then blushed, pointing at Su Ci’s waist. “Then… is the baby real too? Can zombies even have babies?”
Oh my god, she was living for this forbidden love across species!
“It’s a misunderstanding.”
Su Ci had no idea why Lu Yunhe was so stubbornly convinced she was pregnant with a baby zombie. She’d told him many times she wasn’t.
Still, his delusion had some perks—he was extra careful with her during the day, terrified she’d bump into something or fall. But at night… he turned into a wolf, like he was competing with some imaginary rival.
Sometimes, she’d hear his sleepy mutters:
“If other zombies can do it, so can I…”
“Our baby zombie will be the cutest and smartest…”
That evening, Lu Yunhe was clearly more hyped than usual. During his bath, he soaked in boiling water until steam practically rolled off him.
Then, radiating heat, he slid into bed.
He gently nuzzled Su Ci’s cheeks with warm, soft kisses.
“So I really am Instructor Lu? That means the baby zombie is mine too?”
Su Ci hooked her arms around his warm neck.
“Yes, all you. Only you. There is no baby zombie.”
His scorching kisses moved lower.
“There is. I heard him kicking.”
His voice trembled with grievance as he kissed and licked fervently:
“Today, my wife looked at those strangers for two minutes and fifty-three seconds, and talked to that girl eighteen times.”
The air beneath the covers thinned.
Su Ci tilted her head back slightly, her long white neck arched like a drawn bow. Her eyes shimmered with haze and helplessness.
“Xiao Liu, not tonight—”
Her words dissolved beneath his hot, relentless mouth. She heard him murmur with emotion and tenderness:
“So soft… wifey…”
He brushed his sharp nose along her skin, over and over.
Then suddenly—he stopped.
His nose twitched.
Sniff sniff—a faint, sweet, metallic scent invaded his nostrils.
Lu Yunhe lifted his head and, confused, turned on the bedside lamp. He touched his damp lips with a finger—only to find them stained with a shocking streak of red.
Blood.
“T-The baby… is gone?”
He stared at the spreading crimson beneath them, panic-stricken.
“Wife, don’t scare me… does your stomach hurt? We need to get to a hospital… Don’t move, don’t move—I’ll carry you there right now…”
If zombies could cry, Lu Yunhe would’ve been sobbing.
He hadn’t known just kissing could make her bleed this much. Had he crushed her belly?
The thick blood dyed his pale-gray eyes red. Panic and fear twisted his face into something almost monstrous.
Su Ci reached up and pinched his cold cheek, speaking softly to calm him down.
“It doesn’t hurt. We don’t need a doctor. It’s just something that happens every month—it’s normal.”
Lu Yunhe blinked, wide-eyed and confused.
“You’re not lying to me?”
He wrapped Su Ci tightly in the blanket, carried her to the bathroom, and ran warm water to clean her up. He didn’t dare relax for a second—his nerves were strung tight the entire night.
Good news: he hadn’t hurt her. After the bath and a cup of warm water, she fell asleep quickly.
Bad news: there was no baby zombie. He really had just imagined the whole thing…
Which meant… once her period was over, he could try even harder. He didn’t have to worry about hurting the nonexistent baby zombie—
Because it didn’t exist at all!
The more Lu Yunhe thought about it, the more he realized not having a baby zombie wasn’t so bad.
It would just be him and his wife, stuck together, forever and ever, never to be parted.
What to do? He wanted to nibble on her again.
He tiptoed over to the nightstand, pulled out a heat patch, tore it open, and stuck it over his lips. He waited until most of his face was nice and warm—then leaned down.
Mm… wife smells so good.
