- Chapter 149 - The Pure-Hearted Zombie King Who Protects Lone Humans (16) “Let Me Tie You Up Later”
Lu Yunhe evolved. Again.
To say it wasn’t an exaggeration would be a lie. His rate of evolution was at least ten times faster than the collapse of the apocalypse itself.
And with every stage of evolution, came more power—he could now command massive hordes of zombies with ease. His body regained warmth and flexibility, and long-lost memories started bubbling up from the depths of his mind.
Even though Lu Yunhe repeatedly denied recalling anything.
But even the smarter zombie bros and sis could tell something was off.
Among the zombies he summoned were Su Ci’s former roommates Xiaoxia and Rong’er, Zhi Han’s friends Duan Yiyi and Yu Qin, and even that boy from the dance team who used to perform in the square…
Every zombie within a ten-mile radius had been summoned for training and ideological reformation. Zhi Han and Yu Yang were in charge of fitting them with anti-bite muzzles.
These muzzles were crafted by Lu Yunhe and his zombie veterans in overtime workshops. They were still running short.
Zhi Han and Yu Yang sat on little stools at the flag-raising platform in the plaza, supervising the training sessions.
Half a month in, the zombies were well-drilled, now able to perform full military boxing routines and dagger drills.
Meanwhile, the mutant plants they’d cultivated had ripened, and the mutant livestock they’d raised were fat and thriving. At Lu Yunhe’s command, the zombies carried crates of supplies and fanned out across the city.
With their acute sense of smell, locating survivors wedged into cracks of civilization wasn’t all that hard.
…
Overnight, the wandering zombies across the city vanished without a trace. Just as the military teams finally finished constructing their base and started searching for survivors…
Overnight, the zombies reappeared—running wild through the streets, but this time with agility, coordination, and discipline, wreaking synchronized havoc!
Commander Du was startled. “Holy shit, they’ve evolved this fast? What chance does humanity have if this keeps up?”
Thank goodness he had awakened earth-based powers. Otherwise, he’d have pissed himself at the sight.
Several zombies came charging in with something strapped to their backs.
Instructor Li barked, voice low, “Everyone on alert—snipers ready—!”
Gunfire rang out. When the dust settled, the squad blinked at the ground.
Baskets. The zombies had dropped baskets overflowing with fruits and vegetables. One even had a piglet that had to weigh over three hundred pounds.
The squad stared in utter confusion.
Instructor Li pointed at the supplies, stunned. “This is psychological warfare! These have to be tainted with the zombie virus. Bring them back for testing!”
Similar scenes played out across the city.
Ordinary people who had been brutalized by rogue Awakened were driven into corners by waves of zombies…
“Nowhere left to run, little beauty. Just be a good girl and stick with us. We’ll give you everything you need—or we’ll feed you to the zombies…”
In a dead-end alley, a girl cowered in a corner, the wall of decaying, grotesque zombies on the other side of the fence making her tremble and sweat.
“No… please…”
“Ahhh—!”
Horrific screams echoed—then silence.
The girl slowly opened her eyes to see a zombie girl wearing a pink bow extending a gloved hand toward her.
Duan Yiyi helped her to her feet, stumbling over her words. “It’s… okay now… I’ll… pro…tect… you…”
The girl burst into sobs. “You’re such a good zombie… You can bite me if you want, just be gentle, okay? I’m scared of pain…”
Duan Yiyi shook her head. “Can’t… bite. Instructor’s… rules…”
She should’ve died when Yan Shengnan hacked her up. Her classmates, thinking she was beyond saving, dumped her outside the cafeteria. But the zombie virus had kept her alive.
At first, she was no better than any mindless zombie, her only instinct to bite. But Lu Yunhe’s summoning had restored her clarity. Quitting her biting addiction was excruciating—but she’d done it.
…
Back at the resort, after dispatching another batch of reformed zombies, Lu Yunhe finally had a moment to breathe. While waiting for the next group to arrive, he tied on an apron and started making lunch in the kitchen.
Yu Yang had taken Zhi Han out for some fun, leaving the resort unusually quiet.
From behind, Su Ci wrapped her arms around his lean waist. The hard muscle beneath her palms rose and fell subtly with his breath. Lu Yunhe visibly stiffened, lips tight as he chopped vegetables.
“What do you want for lunch? I’ll make it.”
“Anything I want?”
“As long as we’ve got the ingredients, sure.”
He used to know how to cook, although calling it cooking was a stretch—it was mostly tossing in oil, salt, and ingredients, giving it a few stirs, and plating it.
But ever since becoming a zombie, in order to care for his “pregnant” wife, he’d learned a thing or two.
Thinking about all the dumb things he’d done while he was amnesiac, Lu Yunhe cursed himself in silence.
Using “urgent zombie training” as an excuse, he hadn’t dared return to their room for over half a month. But now, with the girl’s soft, fragrant body pressed against him…
His ears turned red.
Back when he didn’t have her, he hadn’t cared much.
But now that he’d had a taste, he couldn’t forget.
He had to put in serious effort just to suppress his body’s reaction.
Su Ci leaned into his back, her breath tickling like feathers.
It made Lu Yunhe itch all over.
“Instructor Lu,” she murmured, “I want to eat you.”
His breath hitched—sharper now.
“Don’t call me that,” he rasped.
It made him feel like he was committing a crime.
She was such a delicate little flower, blooming bright and sweet.
And him? Nothing but a lump of dirt and rot.
They didn’t match. They weren’t right. They didn’t belong together.
She was so young, so beautiful, a powerful wood-type Awakened. When the new order was rebuilt, she should be with someone equally strong.
Not with him. Not with… whatever he’d become.
Lu Yunhe couldn’t even find the words to describe himself anymore. He was messed up. Maybe he hadn’t bitten any humans, but he couldn’t say every zombie he’d crushed deserved to die.
Maybe some of them were just infected innocents, just like he had been.
He wasn’t a soldier anymore. He was something the world should’ve rejected. A criminal fit to be nailed to a pillar of shame.
He didn’t deserve her. Not even close.
But that darker part of him whispered louder: Why couldn’t Su Ci be his? Why shouldn’t she be his?
He couldn’t even face the girl he liked.
Lu Yunhe, you pathetic coward.
The trembling in his body passed through to Su Ci. She turned him around, holding him tighter, and kissed his sharp jawline.
“Alright, I’ll change how I address you.”
Soft vines wound around Lu Yunhe, binding him in place.
As the tender tendrils slipped under his apron, his Adam’s apple bobbed hard. He could easily break free from these gentle restraints—but he didn’t.
His dark, brooding eyes burned. The savagery he’d been suppressing now leaked through the cracks—like a beast about to pounce after feigning weakness.
Su Ci pinched his chin and yanked it down to meet her eyes, biting out two sinful words:
“Hus-band.”
…
No one knew who made the first move.
The half-sliced cucumber, along with the cutting board and knife, got pushed into the corner.
The cold countertop was padded with a thick towel.
Su Ci was lifted up. Lu Yunhe’s large hands supported her waist and the back of her head. His kisses were fierce, full of punishment, grazing and biting.
Compared to when he had amnesia, Lu Yunhe was more restrained now—he knew exactly where her weaknesses were and just how far he could go.
He didn’t release her until her breathing grew ragged. Then he gently kissed her flushed eyelids and trembling lashes—equal parts tender and savage.
Su Ci, dazed, leaned into his kiss—only to be startled as a rough fingertip slid across her lip.
“You asked for it,” he said hoarsely. “Now take it.”
What he was doing had nothing to do with the upright, disciplined face he wore. There was something devilish in his smile now.
After a long while, when the girl was breathless and clinging to him, he scooped her up like a child, carrying her up the stairs with steady steps.
Su Ci buried her face in his chest, sniffling softly.
Lu Yunhe sighed, a bit helpless. “You’re crying?”
He freed one hand to soothe her, rubbing her back while gently coaxing:
“Okay, my bad. Later you can tie me up and let off steam, alright? I’ll kneel on a keyboard, a durian, a washboard… We can go for a self-service buffet? I promise I won’t move.”
This was just the beginning.
They hadn’t even gotten past the appetizers.
And the fire she lit?
She’d have to take full responsibility for it.
