- Chapter 150 - The Pure-Hearted Zombie King Who Protects Lone Humans (17) Married to a Zombie
Thanks to Lu Yunhe’s behind-the-scenes efforts, zombie attacks and destruction gradually subsided. One by one, large and small bases began to spring up, clinging to survival.
Some were officially sanctioned, others not. But either way, terrified survivors finally found safe havens—places where they no longer had to live in constant fear.
Government officials came knocking during the seventh month of the apocalypse. The catastrophe had already claimed countless lives, but thankfully, the new world order was slowly stabilizing.
Lu Yunhe was even more nervous than Su Ci had expected.
Two months earlier, when communications were restored, he’d contacted his superiors. Given his… unique situation, they hadn’t issued any orders at the time.
After all, disaster recovery was chaotic and urgent. No one had the time or energy to deal with a temporarily harmless zombie who regularly delivered humanitarian aid.
But once the situation calmed down, people remembered: zombies and zombie viruses were grave threats that had to be eradicated.
Whether human or not, most species shared one belief: “Those unlike us must have ulterior motives.”
Lu Yunhe had already written his last will and testament.
Whether the government chose to exterminate him alongside the other zombies, or asked him to cooperate with virus research experiments, he would obey—without resistance.
His only wish was for the new administration to treat his wife with kindness… even though their marriage wasn’t legally recognized.
In his will, Lu Yunhe clearly stated that the mutated crops and food delivered by the zombie legion were all donated by Su Ci.
She had contributed greatly to the establishment of the new order, and should receive at least as much respect and privileges as any other ability-user—if not more. If possible, he wanted this recorded officially.
By coincidence, the agent who received his will was none other than his former subordinate, Sun Qi.
Reading the letter, written with such grave sincerity, had Sun Qi both laughing and crying.
“Bro, seriously? Who the hell would dare touch you?”
Were people getting too comfortable these days? The moment anyone laid a finger on Lu Yunhe, millions of zombies would break out in revolt!
Sun Qi greeted him with a bear hug, only to have Lu Yunhe sidestep it with a scowl.
“Keep your hands to yourself. I’m a family man now. I don’t play around.”
“Whoa, no way—”
Sun Qi’s expression was indescribable. He couldn’t wrap his head around it. Just a few months ago, the two had promised: “Whoever gets into a relationship first is the other’s dog.” And now? Look at this clown.
Clearing his throat, Sun Qi pulled a folded document envelope from his pocket.
“This is the official decision from higher-ups, after thorough discussion.”
Lu Yunhe’s expression turned solemn as he accepted the wrinkled envelope and pulled Sun Qi aside to a secluded spot.
“After I’m gone… take care of your sister-in-law.”
Sun Qi blinked in disbelief.
“Come on, man, this isn’t right.”
Su Ci was beautiful, capable, and didn’t mind that Lu Yunhe was a cold zombie. And now he wanted to leave her behind?
This kind of talk… it was corrupting his morals as a brother.
Lu Yunhe didn’t see anything wrong with it. If time allowed, he’d even find someone reliable to be Su Ci’s best friend, bodyguard, or husband…
Whatever it took—as long as she was safe.
Sun Qi’s jaw practically hit the floor.
“I never thought you were that kind of guy!”
He jabbed a finger at Lu Yunhe’s chest.
“You trying to get your wife charged with bigamy? Just open the damn envelope already!”
Lu Yunhe paused, then tore open the seal and pulled out two palm-sized red booklets.
Marriage certificates.
His and Su Ci’s.
Sun Qi grinned like a fool and declared dramatically:
“Surprise! Didn’t see that coming, did you? So tell us, newlywed Mr. Lu, how does it feel?”
He immediately got socked in the head.
“You stuffed my marriage certificate in this cheap-ass folder? You asking to get beat up?”
Sun Qi bolted across the courtyard, hands over his head, yelling as he ran:
“Okay okay I give up! I’m sorry! Just go check on your wife—your dad dropped by incognito today, didn’t you know?”
—
It was Su Ci’s first time seeing Lu Yunhe’s father in person—outside of TV or online clips.
He was over sixty, hair fully gray, looking a bit worn with age, but his smile was warm and gentle. Even now, his features carried a trace of the heroic charm from his youth.
“Lu—”
“No need to be formal, Xiao Su. Just call me Uncle. I know all about you and Yunhe. I’m not here on official business today—just wanted to chat.”
The man who remained calm even in the face of national crisis now looked a little nervous and awkward in front of his future daughter-in-law, sipping cup after cup of tea.
Su Ci didn’t say much, but she was a great listener. Most of the conversation came from Lu’s father, and she chimed in now and then, making the atmosphere easy and relaxed.
Lu Yunhe arrived to find his dad showing Su Ci a photo album from his childhood—pointing at old, yellowing pictures while casually exposing all his secrets.
“Xiao Su, look at this one—Yunhe was eight, insisted he wanted to be a pilot. Took him for a medical exam, they asked him to strip and he cried for two days…”
“And this one—he got caught stealing bird eggs on the way to school. His uncle chewed him out so bad, his face was covered in dirt…”
“And this—he ran off to Africa for peacekeeping without telling us. We didn’t see him for three months! Had to track him down in international news headlines.”
Lu Yunhe slammed the album shut, glaring:
“You done dragging me through the mud? I was trying to stay pure for my wife—can’t have random people seeing me naked.”
“The medical staff were all men. No one wanted to see you naked.”
Lu Yunhe scoffed.
“Not my fault I’ve got a famous dad. Everyone wanted to see what the son looked like. Creeps everywhere back then.”
Lu’s father: “……”
Despite the back-and-forth, Lu Yunhe naturally settled beside Su Ci, pulling her into his arms and lowering his voice to whisper in her ear:
“Didn’t embarrass you, right?”
“Back then, I was the most shredded little dude at that checkup.”
Su Ci tugged gently on his cheek.
“Lu, age eight.”
He grabbed her hand and rubbed it between his palms.
“There you go getting handsy again. Your skin isn’t even a tenth as thick as mine—you’ll just hurt yourself pinching me.”
Watching the two of them act all lovey-dovey, Lu’s father finally relaxed. He said nothing more and quietly took his leave. Once he turned away, though, his eyes reddened.
Years of demanding duty meant his son was always away—they barely saw each other once every year or two. Who could’ve predicted…
That one day, his son would turn from a living human to a zombie?
But the kid had done well for himself. Now he even had his own little family. It was a huge weight off his chest.
—
After Sun Qi and the others left, Lu Yunhe was clearly in high spirits all day.
After dinner, he carried Su Ci upstairs—threw her straight onto the soft bed—then cupped her face and smothered her in kisses.
“Something good happen today?”
Su Ci had already guessed the government wouldn’t touch him. Not because he had powerful connections, but because people were opportunists by nature.
The zombie army trained by Lu Yunhe was loyal, strong, and didn’t need food, rest, or wages—perfect for post-disaster rebuilding.
Of course, in the name of human rights, zombies were entitled to holidays and special perks.
For example, model zombie workers got free access to amusement parks, zoos, scenic spots…
High-level zombies with sentience might enjoy that. Low-level ones still just mumbled “Ababa…”
Lu Yunhe pulled two little red booklets from the inner pocket of his coat, practically beaming.
“Do you know what these mean?”
Su Ci shook her head.
“No matter what the law says, you’re already my husband.”
Lu Yunhe sighed and rubbed his face in mock despair.
“You seriously… know I’ve got no self-control, and you still talk this sweet? You trying to seduce me?”
He kissed her hard.
By the time he let go, the air between them was thick with heat.
“Military marriage. This means you’re locked in for life. As long as I’m alive, you’re not allowed to leave—not even a little bit. Not that I’d ever give you a reason to.”
Su Ci kissed his bold brows and smiling eyes.
“I want to be locked in. No matter what form you take, Lu Yunhe—you’ll always be my safe haven.”
